Tuesday: More Kings Entries, Baseball, and Throwbacks
Good Tuesday everyone. I hope everyone's doing ok knowing we may go a little bit without any NHL. I hope everyone has some sort of competitive hockey near them that they can watch. Luckily, I live near the Rockford Icehogs, Chicago Wolves, and Peoria Rivermen so I'll be fine, especially with all the Blackhawks youngsters in my hometown of Rockford.
Just a reminder about the LA Kings "Burger King" logo contest. DO NOT send your entries to the usual HJC email. Send them to the new Contest Only email account.
Ottawa Senators/Nationals Concept (Jets 96)
If the Sens did do some sort of callback to the Nationals, I would hope they'd do something a little more true to the original. This seems too modern to be honoring a team that existed almost 40 years ago. I think it should look a little more like this. Good execution though. 7/10
New Jersey Devils Alternate Jersey Concept (Tyler G.)
I'm surprised the Devils have gone so long without trying something like this. I like the logo without the circle, but personally, I think the Devils could use a new logo, their current one seems dated to me. Very basic idea, nice execution. 8/10

Now back to your regularly scheduled concepts
Washington Nationals Hockey Concept (Matt D.)
Normally I'm a pretty big fan of what Matt does with the baseball teams but this one is a miss to me. I like where he's headed, but there's too many stripes on the arms for my liking. If he made the arm striping similar to the hem striping I think this would be a "homerun" of a concept. Socks are kind of gaudy too. Also, personally, I would have liked to see the cirlce primary logo on the front. 6.5/10
San Francisco Giants Hockey Concept (Matt D.)
One more Matt Dever Baseball concept. This one screams old time hockey. I like the basic color scheme and the classic striping. Stays true to the actual Giants jerseys. I think an orange jersey would have been neat too. 7/10Ottawa Senators/Nationals Concept (Jets 96)

Anaheim Ducks Concept (Stephen T.)
I would love to see the Ducks do something with their old colors. Even if it was a special jersey they wore once or twice a year. I think they'd be super popular. Very simple Edge-ification to the old scheme. I would like to see something a little more dynamic and modern out of a team that's never been too traditional. NOTE: Stephen, you may want to put some sort of ID on the image somewhere that way people know it's your concept, right now, anyone could save this image and say they did it. 8/10
Los Angeles Kings Alternate Concept (Kyle C.)
This seems like it would be a perfect fit for the teams new identity. It saddens me to say that since I am a huuuge fan of the alternate they use now with the purple trim and the crown on the front that was the basis for their home and away for a long time. This one fits with their monochrome color scheme and is a great callback to their early 90's days. The Championship patch is nice but I don't know if the league would allow it, otherwise I think we would've seen it done by now. 9/10 and COTW NOM

The patch really doesn't have to do with the jersey, I'm a big Kings fan, it's just a way to show it off a bit haha. Thanks for the COTW nom!
I totally think the league should allow championship patches, and/or championship stars to mark stanley cup victories (similar to the way things are done in soccer). where it would get tricky would be teams with a lot of championships like the habs (you couldn't make 24 stars look good on a standardized location on a sweater) So maybe teams with 5 or mor stanley cup victories, could have a large star with the number of championships they have won in text inside it.
If the hershey bears can wear these ( http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=ojjgu9mdgphtixblhh7kneehd ) special event uniforms to commemorate their back to back Calder cups, then a patch marking a team as the current holders of the Stanley cup should definitely be allowed. I think allowing this would add a bit of swagger to the champs and a increase the rivalry around the league.
No Problem. And isn't showing off the championship patch a great feeling? I've had the Blackhawks version of that patch as a fathead in my room for 2 and a half years
Colin, I was thinking the same thing while writing the article. It'd be something if the reigning champ could wear a patch like that for at least the opening game or preseason or something.
I've been a proponent of the champs wearing some sort of patch all regular season for a while. Even a small decal on the helmets would be cool.
Does anyine know what font the L.A. Kings use in their Logo? I'm having a hard time trying to find it.
Scott, you can download all the NHL fonts from this website.

I think Scott is referring to the LOS ANGELES script on the hem of the alternate jersey.
Thats what I meant. Sorry, should have been more specific
