Wednesday: Change Is Upon Us

Happy Wednesday everyone. I hope you're all excited as within the next week two NHL teams will have new uniforms and one of them will have new logos to go with them. Speaking of which, I'm sure you've all seen the leaked Dallas Stars logos and assuming they're the real deal I like them. Not so much the roundel logo but the D-Star on its own is pretty sharp.

Texas Stars Website
As for the Hurricanes teasing their new uniforms daily on their Instagram, I'm pretty excited. It looks as if they're dropping the flag pattern across the hem, and possibly altogether, which is sad as it's one of the most unique features on any jersey in the NHL. Come June 4th though, I'm hoping whatever they show us is better than what they've been wearing which in my opinion will be hard.

But back to the Stars, turns out the big boys weren't the only team in the system with some changes, as the Texas Stars of the AHL decided to unveil new jerseys for the upcoming season. I'm surprised that the new jerseys don't utilize a green, black, silver color scheme that the Dallas Stars' leaked logos represent. Is this an instance of an AHL team sporting a look completely independent from their parent club or is it possible the Stars leaked logos are wrong? Either way these jerseys are ok. I prefer the green jersey.

Here's today's voting reminders

COTW May 20-26 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm EST)
"Untouchables" Bruins Top 5 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm EST)

We have one artist profile card today
And a whopping 11 concepts!

Calgary Flames Concept - (Timmy Q.)
We'll start today with a Flames concept with a lot of black and side panels. Quite honestly, there's not a lot to like here. I feel like the colors are fine, maybe less black would be nice. Side panels don't look very good here, same goes for colored name bars. I'd take these back to the drawing board and give them a more traditional look or something.

Rating: 4/10

Anaheim Ducks Concept - (Andy C.)
Andy takes the Ducks and puts them on a Nike template with the current color scheme. The side panes and broze arm stripes are definitely unique and something Nike would probably do. I don't think it looks that it looks so great on the front. Also not a big fan of the white "D"

Rating: 7/10

Buffalo Sabres Alternate - (Brian B.)
Brian treats us to a vintage white jersey based on Buffalo's throwback thirds that they shouldn't have gotten rid of. I'm pretty much a fan of everything on this jersey except the yellow namebar and the number stitching. Took me a second to see the thin "white" stripes in the yellow stripes. I miss that script.

Rating: 8/10

Dallas Stars Concept - Brian B.
Brian put together a concept using the logos put together by Torch Creative. The logo is ok and the jersey, while not bad, doesn't look very Stars-y. Looks a lot like a Sabres jersey. I think maybe this could use the new color scheme the team might be using (Green black silver) and look better.

Rating: 7/10

Boston Bruins Concept - (David K.)
David gives Boston a set of jersey that doesn't look too different from their current jerseys. It's nice to see the yoke design stay intact. The only thing I have a problem with is the number color on each jersey. I'd swap it so it's yellow on black and black on white. The current setup would probably be hard to see.

Rating: 7/10

Baie-Comeau Drakkar Concept - (Dylan N.)
Looks like Mr. Wonka has dropped the name, but he did bring us a few concepts today, starting with this dandy set of unis. I like everything but the pants striping here, but make a white version of that blue and make the white jersey you make the alternate and this set is near perfect. Love that red, white yoke.

Rating: 8.5/10

Los Angeles Kings Alternate - (Dylan N.)
The second of Dylan's concept today give the Kings a mashup of throwback elements. The classic striping on the "Forum blue" jersey, the "Los Angeles" script across the hem, and the Crown log that's no longer on the front of the jerseys... boo.... Altogether, the jersey really looks nice.

Rating: 8/10

Montreal Canadiens Concept - (Stephane S.)
Stephane redesigns the Canadiens with a new chest stripe and arm length yoke stripes. Plus a new shoulder patch. Quite honestly, I like this new design. Not a huge fan of the very thin white stripes on the red, maybe make it a little thicker. Overall a pretty good lookin' set.

Rating: 7.5/10

Hartford Wolfpack Concept - (Jets96)
We will end today with the "Jets96 AHL Extravaganza" Very similar jerseys to the old Lady Liberty set so it makes sense to use the Wolfpack logo that emulates the Lady Liberty logo. Overall good jersey. Nothing to complain about here.

Rating: 8/10

Iowa Wild Concept - (Jets96)
Jets gives the Wild their own jerseys while staying true to the parent club's look. I really don't like the way all these colors interact with each other on these jerseys. The "logo" is hard to see on the red jersey too so maybe make that the wheat color.

Rating: 6/10

Cleveland Crusaders Concept - (Jets96)
Love the amount of purple here. Oh my, this set looks very nice. I can't get past the purple. I guess the only thing I could say about this to improve it would be change the number color. They're actually kind of difficult to make out from further away. And maybe show off the shoulder patch so we can see what it looks like. Jets, are you saying the Crusaders should make an AHL comeback?

Rating: 8/10
