Weekend Update (February 2)
Before we get to the COTY winner;
This was an incredible week for HJC and I have everyone who reads to thank for that. Here are some of highlights that made this past week so special.
And now...
The winner of the 2013 HJC Concept of the Year is Justin C!
The winner and STILL champion, Justin!!!!! That's right, Justin also won the 2012 COTY. Very similar circumstances, 2012 and 2013. Justin swooped in and won the 4th Quarter Vote, then went all the way and won Concept of the Year. In fact, Justin's 2012 win was announced on Super Bowl Sunday last year as well.
Justin had gone quiet for most of 2013 and I figured he had moved on (as most do and will). During the 2nd half of the year we saw a few more concepts from him and this Avalanche concept was one of them. When I saw it I knew it had the potential to go deep into the COTY voting process. So congrats Justin and your championship plaque should be arriving at your doorstep soon. Now we can all focus on the 2014 Concept of the Year.
The winner of the COTW vote for Jan. 20-26 was Dylan A.
Perhaps a consolation for Dylan A? Who knows, maybe we'll see this concept here in a year as the 2014 Concept of the Year?
The new COTW nominees for the period of January 27 - February 2 have been listed on the side of the page. Click that banner to see the nominated concepts. Otherwise you can go to the CONCEPT OF THE YEAR page to see them. Voting ends on Friday and perhaps the same 23 people who voted last week will return to vote again?
As I noted at the beginning of this post, there are 41 eligible entries into the Calgary Flames ReDesign Competition. Click the red banner at the top of the page of go to the FLAMES COMP tab to see the entries. Be sure to read the rules first, as some people had a bit of trouble doing that for the entry phase of the competition.
It was swirling around Twitter last week that there could be 4 outdoor games for the 2014-15 season. Here are my predictions.
The Florida Panthers will win the Stanley Cup this year! Okay, I lied, that will never happen. But now that you're paying attention to me, read these reminders and go vote!

Just launched last night was the Leave an Idea page!
There is a banner on the side of the page or you can go to the LEAVE AN IDEA tab. This page was developed because over the last year I have gotten many emails from people who have comments on what they would like to see on the blog. One of the most common ideas was for a place where someone who's not able to create concepts can leave their idea. I also got emails that contained concept ideas. I always told those people, that's not really what we do here. Now it is! Hopefully any concept artists struggling for ideas can draw inspiration from some of them left on the LEAVE AN IDEA page. Of course, credit will always need to be given.

I'd like to be the first to congratulate my foe Justin.
He won't be so lucky this year though. I plan on steppin my game up. Plus expect some big things from both of us this year.
Wink
Great job Justin! well deserving! and congrats to all the COTY quarterly champions, there were plenty of great entries this year!
So will the fight to the death between Dylan & Justin still happen? I already started taking bets! LOL
Scratch off the Las Vegas one...I heard that its between Colorado, Minnesota, Phoenix, and Winnipeg for the outdoor games next year...
@Connor: Um, it's already been confirmed that Winnipeg will host a game in 2016 not 2015. You seem very confident with your false information. While I was merely guessing/speculating.
People need to learn the difference between facts and their opinions.
Wow! Thank you all so much!!! It's such an honor to be COTY Champion, nevertheless for the second year in a row. I honestly didn't think I could beat Dylan but I'd like to congratulate him and I'm sure he'll be making a run for it this year. Already looks like he is! Also to everyone else for making this blog so great and competitive. And thanks Ryan for running the best site on the web! I'm still dumbfounded that I won but so proud. Thank you all!
Also yes, the fight to the death between me and Justin is still on. We'll keep you updated
