Monday: No Playoffs in Jetsland :(

Hey all, another year, another lack of playoff hockey for the Jets....or apparently Leafs, hooray! I can't say I'm surprised, I mean, I've seen 4 playoff series with my favourite teams since I was 6 (not counting the Canucks, because I had a bedtime at age 10 (didn't we all -.-) and thus couldn't watch most of their playoff games). I usually cheer for one team during the playoffs, so, and call me a bandwagoner as much as you want, Go Blue Jackets (unless the Leafs SOMEHOW me the playoffs).

These last two weeks have been awesome on the blog! I've won my first HJC contest w/ my talented partner, Alex O. and my first COTW w/ my talented partner, Alex O.. Remember your first COTW win, it was such a great feeling, and who can make it possible...you, that's right...you! Voting makes COTW moments possible.

On to the concepts!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tampa Bay Lightning Concepts (By: Stephen T.)
It's it funny seeing Stamkos's name on the back of a vintage Lightning jersey? It's a neat idea, and with the Lightning retiring the BOLTS jersey, the 90's could return to the not Thunderdome. The jerseys are edgified 90's Bolts jerseys, but what sells this look is the font. Arching the namebar and making the numbers gray complete the non nonsensical choices the 90's were known for in design. I  would add the 90's shoulder patch to the yoke to complete the look. (7.5/10)
Toronto Maple Leafs Concepts (By: Stephen T.)
The Leafs in green, blasphemy! In all seriousness, this is one look the Leafs haven't thrown back to, so it's only time until they do. The striping is nothing the Leafs have ever worn, but is nice and very simple, these jerseys back in '26 didn't even have striping. It's a nice and simple looks, but adding more striping, similar to the mid 30's Leafs would make the striping pop. (7.75/10)
San Jose Sharks Concepts (By: Stephen T.)
The Sharks are another team that is dying for a throwback,but Stephen says,why not fauxback? The teal jersey is definitely the better of the two,but the emphasis on the teal and black,which perfectly go against each other. The vintage shoulder patch, I don't think, goes with the modern logo, and this would be a good time to throwback to the 90's logo.The away jersey would be perfect, if not for the black cuffs. Take those off and you're golden.(7.5/10)
Columbus Blue Jackets Concepts (By: Steve M.)
We've seen many concepts with emphasis on red white and blue, but Steve takes patriotism to the state level with this concept. The cannon logo,once again, looks great in red, white and blue, and I love the horizontal arm striping, not a commonly attempted pattern! The blue jersey, I think, better balances the colours, and adding some more blue to the arms and swapping the red and blue on the hem would make this set look amazing. Try using the current Blue Jacket's logo as the shoulder patch, it looks amazing. (7.5/10)
Tampa Bay Lighting Concept (By: Matt Mc.)
Matt adds a lot of blue to what is otherwise a very black jersey. The striping and curved yoke look awesome, and it's interesting seeing blue gear instead of black. I think black gear would work better, since both the socks and jersey are black, I can totally understand if people like it, but I find it looks best with dark gear. Not much else to say, a great looking concept, and one we may be seeing soon. (8.5/10)
Tampa Bay Lightning Concept (By: Tristan M.)
On the flip side, Tristan goes for the double blue with this Lightning concept. The striping pattern is original, but feels very early 80's, which works with the logo and white collar. The numbers stand out very nicely against the striping, and match the logo, though giving the logo a slight silver outline to match the numbers. The Tv numbers are a little large, and the captain's C are sized improperly, the numbers are too big and the C is too small. (8.5/10)
California Golden Seals Concepts (By: Christian L.)
Christian makes a set of his personal Seals logo, and uses the original Oakland Seals striping. The colour choices are well done, but the colours on the white jersey would look better with more green and accent yellow. Christian's logo is cool, and it looks better than anything the Seals wore, but like the '93 Pens, having two sets with one having logos and one having script would be nice to see, to let the viewer decide which looks better or use both. (8.25/10)
Colorado Avalanche Concepts (By: Christian L.)
Bigfoot! The famous Avalanche shoulder patch appears on the front of this concept from Christian L. and takes all the good elements from the Ave's current alternate, and improves where necessary. The yoke and tie down are left as they are right now, which is a good move, but the angled arm striping and hem are new. The striping is certainly unique to the NHL and would be welcome. I would add a small amount of black to blend into the gear. The TV numbers are a little small and I'm not sure if the template will allow it but a shoulder patch would look great. (8.75/10)
Montreal Canadiens Concept (By: Jack Gar)
Welcome to HJC J.G.! Despite this being, for the most part, a fill bucket concept, the way the colours are done look nice, the blue upper arm is something the Canadiens could try do. The jersey does lack tv numbers and the paint numbers don' show up well without a white outline. Check out the templates page to fine more useful templates, numbers and goodies, as well as the tutorials link. Looking forward to see more, Jack Gar! (4.5/10)
Team Slovenia Concepts (By: Jake88)
Slovenia is weird with their colour uses in sports. They go double green and white in soccer and basketball, and neon and bright blue in hockey, either way, I loved their Olympic jerseys, and Euromaster Jake88 improves upon that look. The added arm striping looks great, and sublimating the mountains were a good choice, making them blend in more than their current look. I love the new font, it may seem like a little detail, but is much improved. (9/10) COTW Nom. from me!
That's the post guys, remember to vote and comment, all the artists and writers and readers love an energetic comment section. I'm Jets96, go Jets go, have a great week, and VOTE!
I'll second Jake88's Slovenia set for COTW, love the sublimated mountains and that blue yoke on the white jersey! The set was executed very well, keep it up Jake88!
Surprised someone other than me is rooting for the Jackets, agree with the other comments.
Thirded (or Fourthed) for Jake's Slovenia set for COTW. The Slovenes love their green on the jerseys and it just works (they rock the green on their soccer jerseys as well...remembered how sharp they looked at the 2010 World Cup).
I've had to accept that the Preds are out of it as well, or if I'm honest, I knew a few months a go. My rooting interest for the playoffs are the Blues (married a girl from Missouri) and the Coyotes (I'm a sucker for underdogs).
