Tuesday: Rock, Paper, Scissors

Happy Tuesday folks. Normally I would try to find something logo or jersey related to talk about, but something amazing has been happening all day....

The San Antonio Rampage of the AHL have been "hosting" a Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament on Twitter with 12 other AHL teams (Milwaukee Admirals, Rockford IceHogs, Lake Erie Monsters, Hartford Wolf Pack, OKC Barons, Rochester Americans, Binghamton Senators, Grand Rapids Griffins, Utica Comets, Portland Pirates, the new Adirondack Flames, and the Albany Devils)
The tournament was seeded last night and started earlier this morning and has been a riot to follow. Those of you who use Twitter somewhat regularly should already know that hockey teams/players have some of the most entertaining Twitter feeds out of any sport. Which, after spending my entire life around athletes of all kinds, isn't surprising at all. I love how weird hockey players and those affiliated with the sport are. It adds a charm to the sport that you don't get with the others.

NHL Twitter feeds have been extremely entertaining these past couple seasons with the LA Kings and Columbus Blue Jackets maybe having two of the best. The Kings' Twitter feed covers their games so nonchalantly, I've seen the Hawks score on the Kings and the Kings' Twitter would simply tweet, "Red team scores".

The tournament wrapped up at 3:30 EST with a final between Utica and Hartford. Hopefully stuff like this continues throughout the summer and regular season. The Flames suggested a new game after getting knocked out of the tourney.....

Well there's two different votes this week so go ahead and vote for those please. Get your voting practice in now because we're going to need you on top of your voting game soon for the HJC OPEN!

COTY-June vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW June30-July6 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Tampa Bay Lightning Alternate Jersey Concept - Scott B.
News of Tampa Bay getting a new black third jersey has been out there for awhile and Scott takes a whack at it. He keeps the BOLTS wordmark but adds orange trim, which, like... why? I don't see where the orange comes into play outside of Florida being known for oranges and orange juice. Kind of a stretch. It doesn't look "bad" per se, but it's so unnecessary. If someone's reaction to a certain design element is "wtf" as opposed to "looks good" then it probably doesn't need to be there.

Carolina Hurricanes Alternate Jersey Concept - Andy R.
Andy tries to mimic old Whalers' jerseys with this Hurricanes alternate. I like the black base, and I know that the Whalers had a striping pattern similar to this but this looks a lot like a Blackhawks jersey in these colors. Pucky the Whale doesn't need to be on the shoulders, he's not affiliated with the team at all, which is sad to say, I love Pucky. It's not a bad looking jersey, but looks a tad uninspired and too Blackhawks-ish. Add more silver trim and make it a bit more Hurricanes-ish.

Colorado Avalanche Concept - Pajo94
Pajo suggests that since the Avalanche are starting to play like the Avs of the past, why not look like them too? I know a lot of people would love to see that. There's no way Reebok/CCM couldn't figure out how to get the mountain pattern back. As for the concept, it's nothing we haven't seen here before. I'd be willing to say this is one of the most often seen concepts actually. At least top 10. I'd lighten up that background too so the focus is on the jerseys and equipment, not trying to find them.

Cobalt Silver Kings (NHA) Concept - Alan H.
Alan has a mismatch of a set here for Cobalt, which in a Home/Clash situation doesn't really bug me since the "clash" is meant to be different as opposed to a Home/Away set which I think almost HAS to be color swaps of the same design. Maybe not "has to" but it looks a hell of a lot better when they match. The home is my favorite of the two here. I like the extended yoke reaching the arm stripes. I feel like the yoke could use a silver striped outline like the hem. The logo on the home jersey needs to either be recoloured like the clash logo or a thicker outline, it gets lost in the blue.  The clash is a bit too wild for my taste. It's essentially a 2009 NHL All Star jersey. I like that the base color is gray though. I don't care for the gray helmet paired with the dark home jersey.

Team France Concept - Stephen T.
This is probably one of the more "out there" concepts from Stephen. Which means maybe he took all of our advice a month or so ago. The torsos on each jersey are alright. The dark jersey is the more interesting one. I feel like you could have gotten away with less on the arms. They look like they've been infected with the paint bucket. The Reebok branding seems odd. You brand this as a Nike jersey and I can see both of these designs happening.

Rating: 7/10

Vancouver Giants (WHL) Concept - Justin S.
Classic look for the Giants here. Nothing extraordinary. Reminds me of the last set of Sharks jerseys before their current set. I feel like more could have been done but it's hard to argue with results. It's better than what they currently wear so that's a plus.Their current set has that super modern feel to it which gets boring and stale after awhile. This look is timeless, they could wear this for the next 30 years and you wouldn't see too many complaints because it's so good.

Rating: 7.5/10

Cornwall Royals (QMJHL) Concept - Christian L.
I normally don't care for the wavy striping patterns like what's on this set here. They're almost a go to design element for teams whose name has something to do with water, but here it fits in with the logo perfectly. It really brings the logos and jersey together to make a cohesive brand identity. I don't care for the stars on the chest, they seem out of place, don't see what they have to do with the "Royals".

Team Italy Jerseys (2015 World Championships) - s2dio
Great looking set for Italy here. The chest stripe looks great. This set comes off looking like soccer uniforms but I'm ok with that. I dislike soccer but their uniforms are top notch. I don't care for the "ITALIA" on the hem of the jersey. I feel like it could very easily go unseen by getting tucked in. The gold trim is a nice touch. Too bad gold isn't anything an Italian hockey team has to worry about seeing. Oooooooohhhhh.

Chicago Blackhawks Alternate Jersey Concept - Dylan W.
Dylan creates a new Hawks jersey that reminds me of their 1937-55 jerseys, which as I've said here before, is my favorite jersey ever, so this one I like right away. The only thing I could possibly think of changing is using a throwback logo as opposed to the current logo. This would be a great Winter Classic jersey by the way, not sure if that's what this was intended to be.

Rating: 8.5/10

Colorado Avalanche Alternate Jersey - Justin C.
I think the Avs look great in blue. I like seeing the foot logo on the front of a jersey but I don't think it's quite strong enough to represent the Avalanche on its own. But Justin puts it in a roundel which helps tremendously. I'd like to see the logo close up and see all the detail. My favorite part of this jersey though, is how there's no black in the jersey. I'd like to see the Avalanche ditch black at some point. So some new equipment would be nice but it does help tie this in with their current set. But I don't like that there's no black anywhere but the equipment. Still though, the jersey is amazing.

The stars were to keep the tradition of there old old old set.
Anyways. I'll nominate Justin's concept. I agree with you on the equipment. But still a great.

Dylan Wonka's Blackhawks jersey for COTW, it was a tough call between that and Justin C's COL Avalanche jersey, and they were both tied until I noticed the CCM logo on the Blackhawks concept and that was the tie breaker.

@Christian- Ahh, alright then, I don't know why I didn't assume something along those lines. I'm a fan of tradition so they're cool now.

Not a CCM fan Kris? haha

I'll second Dylan's Hawks concept for COTW!

@DBro Alexander I'm a huge CCM fan, that's what won the nom from me, I'm a fan of the edge jerseys but not the Reebok design team, hopefully all NHL jerseys will be CCM's next season!

Oops. I read your nomination wrong kris!
