Sunday: And Iran...Iran So Far Away
...couldn't get away...
What's up jerseymaniacs? Welcome to another Sunday post!
Once you see today's concepts, the title pun will make sense. Doesn't stop from being a terrible pun though. But you know what else is terrible? The Colorado Avalanche jerseys and anniversary logo. But maybe you can change that! This week we have a competition for the Avs jerseys and anniversary logos, and you can have two entries! One each, or two jerseys, or two logos, whatever you'd like!
Here's today's only entry:
Jared L.
And while you're at it, make sure you check out yesterday's post about the newly updated Logo Use Policy. The last competition had a bunch of violations, so it became necessary to clarify the language. It should be common sense, but some people just don't get it.
And finally, make sure you check out this week's COTW vote. As usual, there's a bunch of great concepts for you to pick from.
Alrighty then, it's concept time!
Team Iran - Brooks F.
Up first is Brook's concept for Team Iran, if they had a national hockey team. I doubt that they'd be a good fit for hockey, but that doesn't stop them from looking good along the way.
The full body flag design seen at the last Olympics actually lends itself well here. The dark jersey looks really sharp.
The white jersey is subtle, maybe even boring, but is really realistic and sharp nonetheless.
I can see the Nike influence on these jerseys.
Colours are well balanced.
No TV numbers
Shouldn't the stripes on the white jersey be angled to match the angle of the arm?
Overall: It's exactly what you'd expect, but it still looks nice. 7.7/10
Arizona 66ers - Chris W.
What if hockey was so successful in Arizona that they had their own AHL team to go with their NHL team? That's what Chris is designing for with this concept.
I'm assuming all of the logos besides the Coyotes one are done by yourself (you should note where you got any logo that isn't on sportslogos.net, including ones you made yourself). And if that's the case, absolutely solid work on all of the logos!
Great colour use throughout the concept.
Fantastic execution and attention to detail.
The alternate jersey is beautifully done.
Umm...err...hmm...
Overall: Alright, I'm going to throw this out there. I think I might be looking at the new COTY favourite. Best concept I've seen in a long time. 10/10
St. Louis Blue - Jaime R.
Fun fact: the Blues are the oldest active NHL team to not play in an outdoor game. I think they're about due, eh? When they do get the chance, maybe they'll be wearing this design?
Very unique striping pattern, that definitely looks old school.
I know a lot of people don't like vintage white, but it looks so good with this design. Pure white would ruin it.
This jersey looks crazy and busy, but I can definitely see this being used as a 40's fauxback for the Blues.
I don't mind the "2 stripes above, 1 stripe below" scheme, but it makes the TV numbers really hard to read.
I'm not sure using a yellow number on top of vintage white is a great idea for readability.
Overall: In an era where bland and boring jerseys are the norm, this is a necessary change that I'd love to see. 8/10
Hartford Whalers - Taylor R.
Now let's properly kick it old school with this concept for the Hartford Whalers by Taylor.
Going almost sans-grey is a good choice. Grey looked awesome, but there's something pure and classic that their grey era seemed to leave behind.
Not inverting the logo on the dark jersey is another good move. Their white with blue outline logos will never look as good as the blue, white and green logo.
The set looks a lot better with simplified stripes and a cuff/hem pattern that matches. The Whalers didn't always do that.
I don't think the thin grey stripes you have on this concept are really necessary.
It's been nearly 30 years since those silly whales have last been on the Hartford shoulders, and bringing them back now (or ever) would be too soon.
Overall: A timeless classic improved even more, a difficult thing to achieve. 8.5/10
Florida Panthers - Jimmy T.
What's that? You want more old school concepts? Then lets end today's post with this fauxback for the Florida Panthers.
The only reason I didn't like their last alternate is because it just added new colours for no real reason. This at least uses the Panthers' colours.
It looks like a throwback, which is amazing for a team as new and colourful as the Panthers.
The stripe pattern looks awesome, and looks nice on the pants as well.
The logo by your name and the logo on the jersey have two different outlines. On the jersey, I'd rather see red or yellow as the outline than just white.
Speaking out outlines, using a yellow outline on white text is a recipe for disaster and blindness.
Overall: Most people hated the last Florida alternate. This is definitely an improvement, but with a little work to do still. 7.5/10
A few of these concepts deserve a nomination or two, but today my nomination has to go to Chris W's Arizona 66ers concept. Like I said, that concept could very well be in the running for COTY later this year.
So don't forget to send in your votes for COTW as well as your Colorado Avalanche competition entries!
Thanks for reading and see you next week!

COTW Nom. for Chris W., that alternate would be in my jersey collection the day it was released
I'll 3rd Chris W
I do apologize. Isent the design in before the policy change. All the 66ers logos are mine the Crest, Shoulder and inaugural season patch are my creations. the coyotes logo i got are from wikipedia because they are SVG format which is what i primarily use on inkscape before i convert them to PNG. All of my concepts will be noted from now on.
I want to nominate Taylor's he deserves a nod for his Whalers design
I'll 4th Chris W. for COTW.
