Sunday: Finally Moved

What's up everyone? Welcome to another Sunday post!

So I'm finally moved into my new place, and once everything settles down I'm itching to start working on this massive concept series I've been wanting to do for a long time.  It's probably going to take me months to do, but hopefully I get to show it off to you guys soon.

With confirmation that both Quebec and Las Vegas have been invited into phase 2 of the expansion process, it seems more and more likely that these cities will see some NHL action soon.  So here's an interesting question: what will those teams be named?

Of course, every diehard hockey fan would immediately give Quebec the "Nordiques" name. That would be the name I'd go with for sure.  But there is always the possibility of choosing a different name, as a means of marking a new era in Quebec hockey.  The 2nd obvious choice would be "Bulldogs", and I think that would be a very marketable name with great possibilities for design.  Or what about "Owls" or something to do with owls? As Christian L's designs have pointed out, owls can make for awesome design.

Las Vegas doesn't have that nostalgic option however. You could go back to the "Wranglers" name, but I think it's better to start fresh.  "Black Knights" has been used in the application process, but while that's a decent name, it might be too wordy.  "Aces" seems like a good choice, albeit a little cliche. I proposed the revival of the "Fighting Saints" in a concept of mine, and while I love the irony and throwback name, that name is pretty wordy as well. "Scorpions" could work, or "Miners" as a tribute to Nevada's mining history.

Did I miss any good names? Let me know in the comment section!

So this week we have 3 votes to do! We have our weekly COTW vote, our COTY-July vote (which is almost all Christian L besides one beauty from Chris W.), and the WWE Comp vote.  It's super easy to get your votes in now, so what's stopping you? You can do two of those votes on the side of the page right now! The 3rd one you just click on the big black WWE banner, look through the concepts, and comment on the page. It took longer to explain it than it would take to do.

COTY-July vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Aug 2-8 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
WWE Comp Top 4 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

 Alright time for some concepts!

Arizona Coyotes - Brian B.

First up today is Brian's Arizona Coyotes alternate.  Their last black alternate was a little weird and not very interesting, but maybe this one will fare better.

I actually really like how the colours and logo look with a black jersey.
The striping style is very well done.
The jersey style is plain, but effective.
Good execution.

There's no beige anywhere on the jersey, which bugs me. Anything in white can be recoloured to beige and it would look more in place.  Alternatively, recolour the logo to red and white, and have a radically different alternate jersey, which is never ever a bad thing.
Should have a logo or wordmark on the helmet.

Overall: Quite an improvement to their last alternate. Classy but new.  8.2/10

Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies - Brooks F.

Next is Brooks' redesign of a short-lived ECHL franchise, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.  They had some very... interesting jerseys before, but Brooks tries to clean them up with a sharp redesign.

Their old jerseys had too many colours.  Sticking with double blue and white is great.
The main set is pretty simple, but the double arm stripes look really cool, especially in these colours.
Alternate is very different from the main set, and has a unique design that almost looks like a fauxback.
Colours are well balanced.
Execution is great all around.

The alternate jersey without the front logo is great, but the logo used looks out of place because of the colours. The logo on the main jersey works because of the text. I'd recolour the logo just slightly, making the spikes light blue or white.
The logo on the front of the main set looks a little too big.
The number outlines are a little hard on the eyes. Put a white gap between the light blue and dark blue, and it'll look better.

Overall: This old dog has learned some great new tricks. Cool concept! Alternate: 7.8/10, Main: 7.7/10

San Jose Sharks -  RJ

Last but not least today is RJ's San Jose Sharks concept for their 25th anniversary. Finally, an old-school Sharks jersey.

The logo might be a little dated, but I still think it's better than their current logo.
We've waited too long for a grey Sharks jersey.  Now would be a great time to do it.
It's an anniversary jersey that looks like a throwback, but is actually brand new.  I like that.

I do like the stripes as is, but to give a little more connection to their originals, I'd like to see the cuff and hems in teal after the stripes. It would still be a new design, but would give it a little more relevance for a proper anniversary jersey.

Overall:  It's cool to see a grey fauxback for the Sharks, they could actually pull one off.  This could be better, but I'm liking it so far.  8/10

My COTY nomination today goes to Brian B's Arizona Coyotes concept!

That's all for me today.  Don't forget to vote, vote, and vote again!

Thanks for reading, and see you next week!

Brooks F's AC concept for COTW. I went to a couple of Bullies games back when I lived in Jersey, and Brooks' unis are a drastic improvement.

I second Brooks for COTW.

I don't know if it's like this for anyone else, but I don't see any voting polls on the sides. I've checked this site in three different browsers, but can't see the COTW or COTY polls! I voted last week so it was working, but not now.

@Anon: They are there. People have been voting. Are you zoomed in too closely?

Nevermind, they're up now. No, I wasn't zoomed in at all. They just didn't show up for the past couple of days.
