Thursday: Throwback Thursday

I think I've used that title already but it works so oh well.

Also, I apologize if there's weird formatting on this, I'm doing this on my phone and there isn't much with formatting settings here.

Ryan has asked us writers to name our favorite Stanley Cup Final(s)...

..well that is my favorite cup final, seeing as it's the only Penguins victory I was alive for...but this is a hockey jersey blog and well those Penguins jerseys kinda suck...so let's see my favorite cup finals aescetically...and how will I do that? More bias!

So as mentioned earlier in the week, this was an amazing cup final aesthetically. The Penguins' jerseys were unique for the time, with the "cuff" design on the upper arms (with the exception of Detroit), and the gold on their jerseys really stood out and popped in a good way. The North Stars added green to the colors of the series and used black and it didn't just look black for blacks sake, it really added to the look and improved it a lot, at least in my opinion. The green, gold, and white made their color scheme a bright one and the black darkened it up a bit.

So this series is mostly self explanatory but I'll explain anyways. For the Penguins' jerseys, well, just see my above comments on them. And the Blackhawks jerseys, well, they're the Blackhawks jerseys. Does anything else really need to be said?

So this week we have the COTW as always, and the New York Golden Blades WHA competition. Really liking the entries we've seen so far, let's keep that going!

COTW Sept 20-26 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
NY Golden Blades entries (due Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Golden Blades entries:
Danny R.
Brian B.

Aaaand the concepts:

Jack. S - Boston University
When I search for their jerseys I'm seeing 2 different designs, and I'm not sure which they currently use. Regardless, let's see how this set stacks up
+Good job using an actual logo
+Black is added to the jerseys, when it is already in the logo (even though they don't use it)
+The set is consistent
~The font could be better, but it could be worse too
-The stripes are much too thin, especially on the white jersey where there's only an incredibly thin black stripe in the red cuffs. I would make all the stripes bolder
-Black name on the red jersey blends too much
-Not enough white on the red jersey
-The logo looks a tad small
-Stitching should stop at the hem stripes

Overall: It's a good start, but too many things are bringing it down. Just a few changes make it a really solid look though (6/10)

+Not sure if there's any real reason to do this but it's a cool idea nonetheless
+I would say this accomplishes a blackout
+Simple and solid design
-The numbers and front word mark logo should be solid gray like the name is. They are barely visible like that
-The gray also may need to be lightened
-Lose the phantom yoke

Overall: Good idea, just needs to be executed better (7/10)

Lucas D. - New York Islanders
The Isles new alternate has a decent design overall, just not executed correctly. Let's see if Lucas can fix that.
+Blue/orange is swapped out for black
+Good logo choice, with the NY instead of their regular logo
+I love the usage of colors on here, the white hems/cuffs on a dark jersey are one of my favorite looks, not sure why but it is
~Of course I like the blue & orange, but it isn't realistic to what they were trying to do
~Tavares is number 91...
-The cuff trims don't look bad in blue, but the bottom on the sock should go back to white
-Maybe it's just my phone screen (as I'm reviewing these from my phone), but the edges of the jersey look a bit too pixely

Overall: Solid design and definitely an upgrade (8.5/10)

Taylor R. - Winnipeg Jets
+Classic design, yet a unique one
+The addition of red onto the jerseys is the right move, not only does it match the logo but it calls back to the team's history, even both this franchise and the previous Jets
+lace collar was the right choice
-the numbers should use an outline, but they're already thick as is so I would make it on the inside, if that makes sense.

Overall: I would love if they used this look (9/10) and a COTW nomination

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you guys next week.
