Tuesday: A Post Worth Reading
Hi everybody. I hope everybody is having a happy Tuesday. We got a lot of concepts to cover today but I'd like to talk about a few things before we get to them.
First, I want to talk about the All-Star Game. I must admit, it was pretty good this year. I honestly thought the 3v3 games wouldn't be that exciting but I guess with one million on the line you would want to play your heart out. Speaking about the jerseys, they actually looked pretty good on the ice with those numbers in my opinion.
Second, Being that I'm a current student at Youngstown State, I wanted to talk about my schools club hockey team's jerseys. First off, shout out to there President Enzo. I wish you and your guys the best of luck with the rest of your season. As for the jerseys, they were done by the company Rebirth Sports in Michigan. They have done a good amount of jerseys for club hockey teams around the country, so keep up the good work Rebirth.
As you can see, the jersey set for YSU is a mix of modern and classic style. My favorite part is the alternate logo of Pete the Penguin on the shoulders, as well as the simplistic design. Good Job Rebirth and Go YSU hockey!
People, I would like to kindly remind you to vote for the two finalists of the COTY, Justin Cox and Ryan C. Also, vote for the COTW!

On to the Concepts!
Alan Su- Toronto Maple Leafs
Positives: The new logo looks really good and fits well with the jersey. The logo doesn't stray too far away from the Maple Leafs classic look. The yoke on the white jersey is actually quite nice on that jersey. It really give the uniform a more modern touch. As for the "retro" jersey, your choice of combining different styles of the St. Pat's uniforms to create an entirely new jersey worked for this. the stitching on the back number is a nice touch as well.
Negatives: Your name on the back looks a little too low from the yoke. also, going with a realistic jerseys was a great idea, but the pants in a drawing style compared to the realistic looking jerseys don't mesh together well. Finally, where you put the centennial patch on the retro jersey looks out of place.
Overall: 7.5/10
Sasin Roman- Dinamo Riga
Positives: The Canadiens-style hem stripe is very nice. While it does not connect together completely due to the piping, it doesn't take away from the stripe itself.
Negatives: A few failed executions here. First, the name is up in the Yoke. I see what you were trying to do with the name but it goes below the yoke. Second, you need to do a much better job with the TV numbers. We have a tutorial on how to do the TV numbers on the sleeves, so I suggest you check that out for your next concept.
Overall: 5/10
Scott Garland- Syracuse Stars
Positives: Very clean and great attention to detail. The way you use that space between the yoke and that stripe below it to create a nameplate is an interesting concept all on its own. While you do have a lot going on in the primary set itself (different pattern striping on the hem, cuffs, and sleeves) they work together to capture your eye to move from one part of the jersey to the next. As for the third jersey, the use of their star for the "A" in the diagonal SYRACUSE was a nice touch.
Negatives: What can be bothersome about this entire concept is the numerous types of striping in the design itself. While I have said that it this design works harmoniously, it borders that line between a good concept and a cluttered mess. My suggestion would be to stick with two stripe patterns at max on the jersey, much like your third design. Another issue is that your numbers on the back look a little low from the name, something that could be fixed simply.
Overall: 8.5/10 COTW NOMINEE
Matt Gomula- Gatineau Olympiques
Positives: Credit to you Matt for giving the Olympiques a new color set and logos that represent the Gatineu area. The simplistic design of the jersey and logos give it a throwback feel. This concept reminds me of the Whalers of the WHA.
Negatives: it is a little hard to see the stitching details on the green jersey, which makes it hard to tell where the collar ends and the jersey begins. Or you could have changed the green jersey's collar to have yellow and white to contrast like the white jersey. Also, those numbers look strange on the back of the jersey. I'm not saying that the font isn't good to go with, but using the number 11 probably wasn't the best number to use when using this font.
Overall: 8/10
Tyler Kostiuk- Peterborough Petes
Positives: Pretty good execution on the concept overall Tyler. Your decision to only do two colors was an interesting one, but something that wouldn't be too hard with a team like the Petes. What is more interesting is the two alternate jerseys that you made for the Petes. Using the vintage circular Petes logo was a nice touch to the fauxback. It adds to the suggestion of it being an older version of the jersey. As for the Third with the custom logo, the use of the double chest stripe was a good choice.
Negatives: While you chose to do a two color concept, your designs for the main jerseys are too plain. You have the simple "Petes" Wordmark on a generic looking jersey. What worked better is the unique striping and and contrasting color nameplate you used on the alternate jerseys.
Overall: 7/10
Johnathan Hicks- Acadie-Bathurst Titan
Positives: The custom striping on the arms is a really nice touch. Taking the two stripe design from there current jerseys and putting it on a classic style uniform gives it a unique look from other teams.
Negatives: This concept is kind of rough. you could have done a better job with the lacing and collar. The QMJHL patch is pretty rough compared to the CCM logo on the other side. The main crest logo is a little too big for the front of the jersey. But the most important thing you missed was the sleeve numbers. You may only have just the front of of the jersey, which is fine, but you need sleeve numbers.
Overall: 6.5/10
Johnathan Hicks- Gatineau Olympiques
Positives: Thank you for bring back the color in the Olympiques logo and uniform set. The sleeves on the jerseys are interesting with the traditional yoke.
Negatives: You made a lot of the same mistakes on this as you did in the Acadie-Bathurst concept. the Collar and lacing is really rough, as is the QMJHL logo. The crest doesn't look as large as the other jersey but it could be shrunken down a bit. You also forgot the sleeve numbers and you misspelled "Olympiques".
Overall: 6.5/10
Well that's all the concepts I have for you this fine Tuesday ladies and gentlemen. I hope all of you have a good rest of the week and I'll see you all this time next week.
