Thursday: Le premier Décembre

Hello, welcome back!

Nothing much to talk about news wise aside from the Pens' Stadium Series jerseys, but I'll wait to talk about those until the Flyers unveil theirs as well (or announce it'll be their 50 year alternates). Plus, I still don't even know how I feel about them, whether I like them or not. So I'll give it a review when I figure that out. For now, just enjoy some jerseys that (in some cases, sadly) don't exist!

---------------------------

Today we have the regular usual COTW, the new usual Season vote, and the COTY logo entries due next Friday. Take a minute and leave a few votes, if not entering the competition.

COTW Nov 18-24 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
The Season Week 3 voting (ends Friday @ noon ET)
COTY 2016 logo entries (due Dec. 9 @ noon ET)

---------------------------

Avi S. - Minnesota Wild
+Great take on a red Minnesota jersey, great color balance.
+The wheat color really works here to add to the vintage look the design has.
+Those are some unique yoke stripes, but they really work.
+I think the green gear is better traditionally, but I'd love to see color rush games like you've proposed.
-Like Phil mentioned yesterday, the inside hem on the front should be green to match the stripe.
-The thicknesses of the wheat stripes all look different, I'd make them more consistent.
Overall: 9/10 and my COTW nomination

Ben S. - Detroit Red Wings
+This is the most interesting jersey for the Wings I've seen, so points for uniqueness.
+The bridge inspired arms are actually a neat idea, I think it works, at least on paper.
-That leads to a bit of awkward placement for the TV numbers, though.
+That logo is unique...and I'm sure it has meaning...but please explain what it is because I'm not aware myself of what it is.
+Not sure what the meaning of the 2 stripes is, but it looks good and matches the yoke piping (just no bridges in these).
-I would imagine if this were to be released there would be people claiming they copied the Leafs.
-The name looks a bit small.
Overall: 8/10

Bradley D. - Manitoba Moose

+This is how I think AHL teams should be designed: take inspiration from the parent club without copying them exactly.
-While it's not bad as is, the dark jersey could be a bit more of Manitoba's own if the shades of blue were swapped, similarly to the alternate.
+I do like the socks being the light shade of blue, it's such a little thing like Boston's yellow socks but it's a nice, unique feature.
-Not a fan of the name font, maybe if it was a bit taller but it has a very basic look right now.
+I like the alternate, it's a different look from the home and roads while also not straying too far. While an alternate by no means has to be similar to the primary set to be good (see, Ben's Detroit alternate), the cohesiveness is nice.
Overall: 8.5/10

Patrick N. - Springfield Thunderbirds

+A set that has a traditional and modern look at the same time. I think the modern look mainly comes from the colors, which are incredibly vibrant for a hockey jersey.
+On that note, good color balance. There could maybe use to be a little more yellow on the white jersey, but that's a minor gripe because I'm not sure where it would slot in.
+The font and color choices for the font are great on the blue jersey.
-The font is still good on the white jersey, but the colors aren't so much. The light blue vibrates with the yellow a lot, I'd switch the two blues. It would probably look better without a nameplate as well.
-The design really reminds me of the Blackhawks...
+ I also see that it appears to come from the logo. Not really sure if this ends up being positive or negative when you consider those both.
Overall: 8/10

Taylor R. - Northeastern Huskies
+Nice, vintage looking set.
+While the logo isn't anything too great, it's an improvement over what they're wearing now.
-It may look better to swap the black on the logo for white on the dark jersey, but if it's a school thing for the logo to only ever be in those colors then disregard that comment.
+The font choice plus keeping it one color is what I think really gives it the vintage look.
+The red pants are a good choice here.
-It does leave a slight need for more a bit more black on the white jersey though.
+The set looks like a fauxback that I could see the Senators wearing, which quite frankly I'd love to see.
Overall: 9/10

Taylor R. - Northern Michigan Wildcats
+Such an underused color scheme.
+Another classic Taylor design, keeping the stripe colors the same on both jerseys.
+Good color balance. The green yoke on the white jersey really is key to that.
+For a traditional/modern mesh like this, the font fits really well.
-The white and yellow have some slight problems with blending together, but it isn't too bad.
Overall: 8.5/10

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you all again next week.

Thank goodness I'm from Michigan... To answer Brendan's question; Most kids in Michigan are taught about the shape of the state through the use of mittens, the lower peninsula is sometimes called "the big mitten" and the eastern most part of the lower peninsula is often referred as "the thumb". Long-story-short, the logo on the Red Wings concept is supposed to be the state of Michigan, but made by a pair of hands.
