NHL Drops 2019-20 Outdoor Schedule/ASG Host

Happy New Years! The NHL took to the outdoors once again in their annual tradition in Wintery Classicness, this year at Notre Dame Stadium between the Bruins (their 3rd outdoor game) and the veteran Chicago Blackhawks (their 6th outdoor game).

However that wasn't all the outdoor goodness we got today, as the NHL announced earlier this afternoon that there will be 3 outdoor games for the 2019-20 season, including the reintroduction of the Heritage Classic after a 3 season hiatus since the Edmonton/Winnipeg WHA game.

The first game of the year will be October 26th between the Winnipeg & Calgary (two top teams in the west) with Calgary playing host. Reason why I have to say this is that the game will not be played at McMahon Stadium in Calgary nor at InvestorsGroup Field in Winnipeg. Instead the game will be at the new Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan. For those unfamiliar with Canadian geography Saskatchewan is the prairie province in-between Alberta & Manitoba. Despite being a neutral site, Calgary will be the home team seeing as Winnipeg was the home team last time. No logo has been unveiled at this time, however best guess is a similar logo to 2011-2016 with green replacing the blue as it is the main colour of the CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Justin- Jets bring out the blue WHA style heritage jerseys & the Flames bring out the white 1980s style jerseys in a reversal of their already gorgeous current throwbacks as the Heritage Classic tends to do direct throwbacks.

The biggest news probably comes in the Winter Classic, which for the first time will be hosted south of Dixie at the Cotton Bowl, with the Dallas Stars hosting an unknown foe. As per usual the game will be held on New Years Day this time next year.

For the second time Colorado will play host to an outdoor game, this time at the Air Force Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, CO. on February 15th 2020. Their opponent is not known at this point, unlikely to be their 1990s rivals the Red Wings in my opinion as the Coors Field Stadium Series game saw the Red Wings & Avalanche renew their rivalry. This is also the second game played at a USAF location after the Annapolis Stadium Series last year between the Maple Leafs & Capitals.

Finally, without much surprise, the St. Louis Blues are confirmed to be the 2020 NHL All Star Game. This is the first time the Blues will host the annual celebration of the best in the league since the 1987-88 season, back when the event was hosted at the old St. Louis Arena the team played in until 1994 before moving to the Scottrade arena.
