Concept Corner- May 2nd, 2020

Hey Everybody. Steve here writing the second edition of Concept Corner. We've got some great concepts headed your way shortly, but I figured this would be a good time to slip in some updates on the website.

As previously stated, we're moving the website from our current platform to a WordPress platform. This was mainly for ease of access and control of content. This also means that with a new website comes some new branding. Now, I can't get into much of that because it's not entirely finished and yes, I understand that we just rebranded back in 2018. However, we felt that we wanted to take our time with this and have it to near completion with the branding and website slated to unveil May 22nd.

As for updates in regards to Concept Corner, we've also decided to "get with the times" and allow for a much easier way to get the concepts to us, so now you can upload any concepts that you have made or are making to our DM's on twitter as well as emailing them to jerseynerdsmedia@gmail.com. Size restrictions and the ID do apply as they did with HJC.

Now that I got that out of the way, let's get to the concepts!

Danny Fiddler- Colorado Avalanche/Nordiques
First up, we have Danny Fiddler brings his his concept of "if Colorado kept the Nordiques name" and I must say that I like how you recolored the Nordiques logo to match the color scheme from the 90's. Other than that, this seems like you just put the Nordiques logo on a Colorado jersey, color scheme and all. While there's nothing wrong with that, it would be nice to see you do a little more mix and match to combine the two. I'd love to see what you could do to incorporate the Fleur De Lis into this design. Overall: C

John Elbertson- Philadelphia Flyers Vs Team Russia
Next up is HJC Veteran, John with his modern day twist on the 1976 matchup between the Flyers and the Soviet Union National Team, now Russia. I must say that the traditional and template approach is something I could see in real life but you do a decent job of having the two teams stand out. For the flyers jersey, The use of a white yoke on an orange jersey with white being the more dominant color than black was a good choice and the Keystone for the Captains' patch was a good choice as well. As for the Russian jersey, The nod to the 70's with the diamond pattern on the arms is nice with the Russian spelling of the country. What is disappointing, though, is that you decided to use the same template for both teams and a similar striping set up. It would be nice to see the hem stripe come up on the design instead of it looking squished at the bottom. other than that this design is pretty solid.
Overall: B

Steve Grant- Winnipeg Jets 1
Former writer Steve Grant sends us two different takes on the Winnipeg Jets and, I must say that this first one looks pretty solid. The use of Aviator Blue as the primary color for the jersey was a good choice and basing this off of the current alternate jersey was also a good design choice, but adding a stripe and using the primary logo on the front improves on the alternate jersey. As for the white jersey, the addition of a rounded yoke fits nicely with the overall design. My only negative with the design is the choice of the silver accent stripes on the white jersey as it gets hard to see them.
Overall: B+

Steve Grant- Winnipeg Jets 2
What really works for this design is all the angular striping and stencil numbers as a nod to the aviation part of the team's identity. the accent striping on the jersey in read, devoid of all Aviator Blue, and silver arm stripes really gives this a unique and cohesive design to the overall branding. My two negatives of this design is the choice of a phantom yoke on the dark jersey and keeping the stripes on the arms silver on the white jersey. if you were to change the yoke to another color or just remove the phantom yoke that design would be great and to change the silver stripes to navy or red on the white would make this design perfect.
Overall: A

Well that's all I have for this week. I'll see you guys on the next one as well and until then, I hope everyone stays safe out there and keep up the great designs!
