Week of May 9-15, 2011

A new week brings with it a new COTW vote. You can find said vote on the left side of the page. Nominees can be seen under the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Voting runs until Thursday @ 11:59pm EST.

Last week's poll asked what was the most important international hockey moment. With 55% of the votes, the 1980 Miracle on Ice won!Come on Canadian fans, where were you on this one? According to site stats, just under 49% of visitors are American. That means some of us Canadians voted for the 1980 victory. Not me, I voted 1972 Summit Series. Obviously I'm being a little biased here but, I was hoping that at least a split of the 2010 Olympics and '72 series would be more votes than 1980. Also, for the record, just under 42% of visitors on HJC are Canadian (according to stats). 2010 Olympics finished with 25% and the '72 series finished with 11%.

The new Weekly Poll can be found on the right side of the page. It runs until Sunday @ 11:59pm EST. I'm very interested to see the results of this one.

It seems as though concept submissions and interest have risen in the past month so, we're going to try a ReDesign competition! The team to be ReDesigned this time? The defunct Cleveland Barons! Check out the BARONS COMP tab for all of the rules!

Philadelphia Flyers concept (by Ryan)This isn't too much of a concept. It just takes the jersey of the Don Mills Flyers (Greater Toronto Hockey League) and applies it to the Edge cut as a Philadelphia Flyers concept. I also removed the vintage white from the Don Mills jersey. For those that don't know, the GTHL is where a lot of OHL teams draft players from. The player seen below is the son of former NHLer Tie Domi (Max Domi). He was drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs who are coached by former Leaf Todd Gill. Also, the GM is former Leaf Doug Gilmour.

Calgary Flames concept (by Avi)Avi made some changes to the Flames Heritage Classic jersey. They include, no name on back, no collar laces, and the addition of a bigger hem stripe. The most obvious change is the removal of the stripe across the chest.

Pitt Hockey (by Tex)Sorry this another NCAA team, thus I know nothing of them. Tex wrote that this is a fauxback jersey. I really should get more in tune to NCAA and CIS hockey. I love getting non-NHL concepts so, I should pay attention to more leagues than I already do.

Nashville Predators concepts (by Brian)Brian has made some changes to the logo which are great. He's added gold and blue concepts with it. These look great, and they keep the use of the checkerboard pattern. That is something that I've grown to become a big fan of!

I absolutely love the Predators gold/dark blue/white look. I don't even like the Predators, but I would love to buy one of those jerseys!
