Weekend Update (November 24)
Friday was HJC's 4th Birthday. This just started as a fun little blog where I could post my work when I felt like it. Now it's turned into this daily thing that a lot of people really enjoy. Thank you to anyone who has ever been a part of HJC! From concept artists, to writers, to readers, to spammers. Thank you. Well, maybe not the spammers.
The winner of the COTW vote for Nov 11-17 was Tristan M!
The winner of the Milwaukee Admirals ReDesign was Brendan Fry!
The new COTW nominees have been listed on the side of the page. To actually see the concepts, you need to click that banner or go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Remember, anyone can vote and voting ends on Friday.
The next competition here on HJC is going to be a fun one. I call it the "Make the Fishsticks Logo Look Good Competition". We did this previously with the Kings' "Burger King" logo. It's your job to make this unpopular logo look good. All the rules can be found on the FISHSTICKS COMP tab, or you can just click the banner at the top of the page. Entries are due on Friday.
HJC needs a new writer! As of this posting, we are looking for a Friday writer. That could change if one of the current writers decides they would like Fridays. Then their day would become available for the new writer. If you're interested, click the banner at the top of the page. Applications are due by noon (Eastern) on Saturday, November 30.
This came to my mind and it's a simple tip that perhaps some people don't know about. Whether you're working in MS Paint, Paint.net, Photoshop, or Illustrator, if you hold down SHIFT while drawing a circle or square (any shape really) it will draw a perfect circle or square. Just a handy tip that some people might find useful. Also holding SHIFT while drawing a line will keep it straight.
Martin resides in Germany and the Hansons, of Slap Shot fame, were recently there on a tour. Interestingly, Martin pointed out that they wore the classic Chiefs sweaters. However, the sweaters were made "European style" Meaning they had ads on them, they were sublimated, and they also featured a special shoulder patch. The shoulder patch had the cities involved in the German leg of the tour. I thought this was pretty neat of Martin to share with us.
I stopped by the mall this weekend and had a brief chat with Santa Claus. He wanted me to pass on to the HJC readers that regardless of your religion or beliefs, if you don't vote this week then you'll be placed on the Naughty list. Even though the existence of Santa Claus has been debated for centuries, I wouldn't risk it and I'd probably just email in my vote now.

Fun fact: 3 of 4 COTW nominees are from my Thursday review. You could say that I'm a bit of a good luck charm. ;)
Seriously though, congrats to Tristan and Brendan on winning the votes this week, and thanks for everyone who voted, and will vote again this week.
Thank you William! This is my first ever COTW win, so a special thanks to everyone that voted. Looking forward to who wins the next one.
I want to thank everyone who has contributed and written to HJC during my tenure as writer. I will still contribute myself here and there. It was a great experience.
