Tuesday, Hockey and Facts Do Not Mix.

Well it's official, Hockey is back! With the NHL and AHL seasons have already begun, and the ECHL season beginning Friday, we are back into the most wonderful time of the year! As Assistant Equipment Manager for the ECHL Evansville Icemen, I traveled with the team for the 3 preseason games they played last weekend. One of those games was the First ECHL game in the newly renovated Fairgrounds Coliseum in Indianapolis. Aside from our starting goalie getting slashed THROUGH his mask and us getting SOed, I had a great time. I was on the bench the whole time, so of course I didn't take these pictures, so credit to the Indy Star with these. Also a big shoutout to the "Icemen Maniacs" as they had a 20+ person cheer section for the Icemen for all 3 games. Which was an amazing thing to listen to from the bench.

COTW Sept 29-Oct 5 (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Quad City Mallards Jersey Competition (ends October 31st)

Chicago Blackhawks, Jeremy R.

Good: I like the design based of the 1930s jerseys. The block font looks good and fleshes well with the classic striping. I've always liked that logo...

Bad: But I wished it matched the color of the striping. Either make the logo darker or the stripes lighter. Then of course you would make the font lighter. I wish there was a splash of red.

B+  Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837, near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed. (Wikipedia)

Chicago Blackhawks Winter Classic, Jeremy R.

Good: My likes and dislikes are the same as the last jersey, EXCEPT, this baby doesn't need red. It is one how it is.

A- The name "Chicago" is derived from a French rendering of the Native American word shikaakwa, translated as "wild onion" or "wild garlic". (Wikipedia)

Montreal Shamrocks, J3

Good:  All NHA designs  need to be classic, the NHA is a classic league after all. I like the green and yellow combo. The updated logo, font, and yoke look amazing on the clash jersey. The Execution is spectacular!

Bad: If the pants and gloves were brown, everything would tie together perfectly, But something about the overall look makes me dislike the set as a whole.

B- The opening of the Lachine Canal permitted ships to bypass the unnavigable Lachine Rapids, while the construction of the Victoria Bridge established Montreal as a major railway hub/ (Wikipedia)

Edmonton Oilers, CPM

Good: I like the effort by Colin to brighten up the NHL. A lot of black/ dark blue is used in hockey today and I think it of course has it's place, but too mach of it makes the players look like a bunch of robots. I like the white yoke. It matches well with the stripes and logo. The execution is fantastic.

Bad: The font. I would use something like the Oilers currently use. The orange yoke stripe could use some thickening.

A Edmonton is home to North America's largest mall, West Edmonton Mall (the world's largest mall from 1981 until 2004),  and Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest living history museum. (Wikipedia)

Late Night TV, David P.

Good: The "Tonight Show" logo looks good with the classic striping. The colors match on all the jerseys. The "Late Show" set would be great for the Blues as either alternates or fauxback jerseys.

Bad: Both of these jerseys are just recolored templates with logos slapped on. There aren't any backs, TV numbers, or creative elements. Work on that, and you're good.

C- The popularity of late-night shows in the United States has been cited as a key factor why Americans do not get the requisite seven to eight hours of sleep per night. (Wikipedia)

Montreal Wanderers,  J3

Good: This logo fits into the striping like a puzzle, which looks amazing. The set is classic, but not boring or templatey. All the equipment ties the well executed set together. The recoloring of the branding looks way better than the original wanderers colors did.

Bad: The numbers/name on the clash jersey have yellow on white syndrome, but there is not much you can do about that. Add helmet logos.

A+ The port of Montreal lies at one end of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, the river gateway that stretches from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic. (Wikipedia)

Florida Panthers, Connor J.

Good: Would a new jersey help gain fan interest in Miami and the surrounding areas? Maybe. The Panthers not having an alternate is the perfect reason to get one. Since the main two jerseys are modern, I agree with Connor that a classic design would be the way to go for an alternate.

Bad: I can hardly read the name, I'm sure the fans in to nosebleeds and on TV wouldn't even know it's there! Make it yellow or white, and that will take you far. The TV numbers are squished between the stripes on the arm and the yoke. A squared off yoke like the Wild have on their away jersey would be perfect. Add a shoulder patch as well.

C+ Florida is the 22nd most extensive, the 4th most populous, and the 8th most densely populated of the 50 United States. (Wikipedia)
