Tuesday: Alternates everywhere!
Hey guys, Caden here. So yeah. The amount of concepts being sent in is pretty low. We only have 5 for today's post. I know you may be busy with your Mallards concepts, cause we have a lot of those, but you should submit regular ones as well. I think I can speak on behalf of Ryan and the other writers when I say that any poor feedback on your concept wasn't meant to hurt your feelings, and it definitely wasn't meant to make you stop sending in concepts. Keep working and you will get better.
COTW Oct 20-26 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Quad City Mallards Jersey Competition (ends Friday October 31st)
CPM Montreal Canadiens
Colin, the now 2-1 assistant GM for my fantasy team, "Brights" the Canadiens, adding a chest stripe to the away jersey. This series has been one of my favorites on HJC recently. I'm going to be sad when it ends. Hopefully we can get some of the same well executed concepts. I love the new style of the chest stripe. Also, I've always thought that the home and away jerseys should be the same design (where permitting). I don't like the solid red shoulder yoke on the white jersey, maybe add a blue stripe...

Dion San Jose Sharks
I've never gotten to review any of Dion's concepts in my posts, so welcome! I like the grey in the striping. Another thing I'm a fan of is the recolored logo. It looks really sharp! I really think that you should add a hem stripe, it will help differentiate it from the home jersey. A hint of orange would also be cool.

Jason NHL All Star Game
I never thought about this, but this is an amazing idea! If you do all of the same design jerseys, It would be a cool idea to have the logo from the team the player came from as the front crest, and delegate the all star logo to the shoulders. Not sure how that would fare on TV though. I wish that you would have done the black and green rumored to be on the 2015 All Star jerseys.
B
SUC Tampa Bay Lightning
I don't really have much to say about this particular concept. I love it as a fan jersey and maybe even a one off, but I reallllly never want to see it on the ice again in the 2010s. The 90s afforded designs like this, but I don't think it would work today. ALSO, the big point here, none of this is your design. You took an original jersey, put the current logo and block font onto it and called it quits. Maybe to work with this design you have to modernize it (somehow) and make it more original and creative.
F (If this jersey never existed and it was your original design, I would give you an A for creativity.)
SG-94 Edmonton Oilers
As the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup parade moves through downtown Edmonton, the millions of fans scream, as the team drives by, sporting their classy new alternate jerseys. Ok, so we might be a long way off from that, but I hope we aren't a long way off from this jersey (or something like it) being used by the Oilers. Orange is such a big part of their branding, I wish that they used it as a primary color for a jersey. The one thing I dislike is the shoulder yoke. Eww,
A- (without the yoke it would be an A, with a good looking yoke an A+)
So that's all for the post today! I hope you enjoyed. You guys should totally send in concepts. Who knows, it might be featured in NHL 15!

Now that that's done, I like SG-94's Oilers jersey. I'm not crazy about the hem but I love the idea of having an "Oil Drop" yoke. I will nominate it for COTW.

I'll second CPM for COTW. That set is a great way to take on an "untouchable" team.
4 hours? putting that design on a blank Edge jersey, and i get an F? C'mon Caden.
SUC, The reason you got an F was you sent that in as a concept when all you did was put a new logo on an original design. And if it took you four hours to put a design on a blank template, then you need to work on your copy/paste skills.
Also, I will 3rd CPM for COTW
Caden, it took 4 hours because my computer was being slow as hell, and constantly glitching out. my copy/paste skills are fine, as MS paint makes it easy. and there's a reason i don't do my own designs. just look at my early concepts back in April/May of this year.that concept was my way of saying "just be lucky i'm not doing chaotic designs anymore".

@SUC: Regardless of your "skills" Caden is entitled to his opinion of your concept. While I would not give it an F, I wouldn't score it high either.
In my opinion, you didn't give us anything to think about. Any of us could take the old 3rd jersey and place the new logo on it.
Never take opinions of others too harshly. It's only an opinion and as long as you like your concept! Now if you're here only to win a COTW for example, then you're making concepts for the wrong reason.
- Ryan
@Ryan, I'm not really pissed off about his opinion. I just strongly disagree with it. Through all of the bullcrap that my computer was giving me at the time, and my still-burning rage at Tampa's actual alternate, I thought it would've gotten at least a D. I mean I wasn't satisfied with it either, but I'm sure it's not F quality. Maybe low D.
And COTW, even though it would be great to win, doesn't mean much to me. I create concepts as an art form, and sometimes I have higher expectations than some. Caden's within his rights to give a differing opinion. I can't argue with that. It's just I don't feel right when I get an F on anything. Makes me think I did a half-assed job, like my concepts of old, which sucked hardcore.
Thanks for the good review Caden. You nailed the main idea I wanted to get across with this series, that is to relegate the boring NHL/Conference logos to the shoulders and showcase the player's team logo. To emphasize this I picked teams that greatly contrasted their respective conference colors. (it'd be pretty cool to own a blue Flames jersey)
I hope to contribute a few more entries in the future.
