The was the final COTW vote for October and that means we can now hold the monthly vote. Those entrants are listed on the side of the page in the red banner. Click on that banner to see the concepts, or you can simply go to the COTY 2014 tab.
The COTW nominees for the week of November 3-9 have been listed on the side of the page in the black banner. Click that banner or go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab to see the nominated concepts. Typically when there are more than 5 concepts nominated I narrow down the list by only taking those concepts that were "thirded" and "fourthed" and so on (as per COTW rules). However, this week's group of nominated concepts is so strong that I made an executive decision and left them all in.

HJC has made voting easier. You can email the blog and ask to be placed on the COTW Mailing List (use "Mailing List" in the subject line). Every week I send out an email to everyone on the list reminding them to vote and letting them know what they can vote for. All you have to do is reply to that email with your votes. It's so simple!
As part of the HJC 5th Anniversary celebration, we'll be taking a look back at HJC's history. Today we look at all the past COTW badges that have been placed on COTW winning concepts.
No one has ever told me, but I think it's pretty cool to see the COTW badge on your concept after you win. That's why the winners are always the first item of business on the Sunday posts. Concept of the Week has been running for 4 of the 5 years of HJC's existence, so today we are going to roll out all of the old badges that have been used since 2011 (there was not a badge used for the 2 months of COTWs in 2010).
The 2011 version is my favourite right now. You could ask me again in a year and that may have changed. At the time I didn't realize how strong of a mark it was and how appropriate it was.
2012 was probably the weakest of the bunch. It was meant to replicate a patch that would have been "sewn" on to winning concepts. Looking back, I think that effect failed.
The 2013 edition of the logo was a little more basic from the two previous versions, but it definitely got the job done. This was the first logo where the COTW acronym was heavily featured.
The current mark in use for 2014 turned out surprisingly well, in my opinion. When we look back for the 10th Anniversary it may not make a top 3 list, but I'm quite happy with it. I didn't have any ideas when it came time to make the 2014 marks, so when I threw some stuff together and this came out, it was a nice surprise.
What do you guys think of each logo? When you win a COTW, do you enjoy seeing the badge placed on your concept or have I besmirched your artwork?
A side note, have any of you ever used the Wayback Machine to take a look at what HJC used to look like? It's fun to see how far the blog has come.
Lets get back to a classic HJC ReDesign. The new HJC Competition has begun and we are ReDesigning the CHL. The rules are fairly simple and can be found by clicking the banner at the top of the page. I've given you a little extra time to get your entries in, as you have until Saturday (not Friday) at 11:30am Eastern to get your entries in. Remember to email them to the HJC Competition email and not the regular email.

What would have been cool for the CHL Redesign was if you picked one team from all the leagues combined as a "host" team and had a four team vote to replicate the Memorial cup, especially since we are approaching Veterans/Remembrance Day. Missed opportunity, but will be fun regardless.
