Monday; Jets Finally Talks WC

Welcome to another fresh week on HJC...unless you count Sunday but that's still a weekend day so...anyways, the post!

First things first, the HJC concept well is starting to dry up! It's getting close to exam season in university & college but I find concepts a great way to destress and take a break from studying. Anyways, send in your work so we have stuff to review!

I promised once both jerseys were unveiled I'd do this review, and there's a good reason for it. Last year's Winter Classic, while not terribly designed, featured 2 jerseys from 2 completely different eras.
Washington looked right out of the 30s to early 40s, while the Blackhawks looked anywhere from the 50s or 60s. While there are match ups where this could have worked, this one did not. On there own, two solid jerseys, but against each other, it looked like an HUT game from NHL 16.

That being said...this year's... for the first time since Detroit's jersey in 2014...I NEED TO GET THAT HABS JERSEY!!!!! Ahem....what I meant to say is this is a very different year.

Let's look at the Bruins jersey first, going off of a look many expected

Safe to say this is what most people wanted in a Bruins WC jersey, since last jersey was the other jersey everyone hoped for. Kudos to Taylor for guessing this jersey so accurately. The placement of the numbers and how the striping would lay out were my two biggest questions, and the way it's done is pretty good. The stitching on the numbers are nice to see again, we haven't had a jersey with stitched numbers since that underrated Sabres alternate. The logo is fine, nothing amazing but a throwback. The black and gray B wheel logo would have looked better IMO, and I can see A LOT of great concepts coming from that logo, but as is, I think most Boston fans are happy.

Next... near perfection...

I quite like this jersey, even Ryan...the blog owner/professional Habs non-fan who had to admit that he liked this jersey. The colours are nice, the white C looks better than I expected, the globes were something I was really hoping for. I like how the jersey is a mix of the World Champions jersey, the 1925 C and the 45/46 jersey that Leafs fans from 2003-2009 plagued Leafs Fans as an alternate....ugh NHL04 memories...none the less, I do plan on owning this jersey with Patches on the back. I would have preferred stitched numbers to the relatively modern font we got but I do like the current font better than a standard block font.

So am I wrong? Am I right? You tell me in the comments!

Hey so about this Griffins comp...I have a challenge for you artists who need ideas or just want to prove Jets96 wrong! If you aren't aware, the Griffins used to be in the ol' IHL before they moved to the AHL in 2001. Of course being in the IHL in the late 90s & turn of the millennium, the jerseys were...unique. I actually quite like the wing template on the yokes. Below is a visual example:

They sure are interesting to say the least, that being said, with the new colour scheme and of course the new logo, this gave me an idea. Modernize this jersey to the new logo. New colours, new wings, new logo but throw it right back to 1998...as hard as that may be for some. Give this a try, I bet you can't do it! I think my challenge is too hard for even COTY winners....oh yeah, I went there.

So who's gonna prove me wrong?

Oh don't forget to vote!
This week not only is there COTW, but also COTY October and of course the 1996 World Cup contest TOP 5 voting, all of which take 30 seconds at the most.

COTY-October vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Nov 1-7 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
World Cup 96 votes (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
GR Griffins Comp (Nov. 23rd @ 11:59 pm Eastern)

On to the concepts! We got 4 today.

------------------------------------------

Nashville Predators Concept (By: Danny R.)

+ I know that the logo is from the Nashville Sound but DAMN is this logo nice in the Preds colours
+ The striping allows for the logos and numbers to show off more
+ The numbers and NOB typeface are gorgeous, the whole music city theme is perfect for a third jersey for the Preds
+ The circle 3 star shoulder patch is a solid custom logo
+ Good execution

- The arms would better without the white cuffs
- The captain's C is too close to the centre of the jersey

Rating: 9/10

Pittsburgh Penguins Concepts (By: Ryan C.)

+ I really like the striping, it seems like something you'd expect out of the 90s if they threw back to 1967 but at the same time, it really matches the script
+ Great execution
+ Good logo choices
+ Excellent colour balancing

- Preferences here but I would really like the rounded numbers to be given a try. It might not work but hey, the double blue & round numbers go together like those years in Pittsburgh & losing (Get it...haha?)

Rating: 9.25/10 COTW Nom. from me

HKm Zvolen Slovak Extraliga Concepts (By: Taylor R.)

+ Despite the team already having great jerseys (minus the ads), these jerseys are good too and it wouldn't be a lateral move changing to these, a slight but noticeable improvement
+ I'm glad Taylor kept the striping from the actual jersey and moved it to hem, because man do these stripes look great with that logo
+ The away jersey reminds me of Calgary's beautiful away jersey from the glorious 80s
+ The typeface on the numbers/NOB match the logo very nicely

- The black* NOB on the red jersey is hard to read, yellow or white would be better
- Shoulder patches would spruce up the shoulders. Maybe just the crown without the HKm

Rating: 8.75/10

Nashville Predators Concepts (By: Josiah B.)

+ I quite like the striping pattern and the star on the cuffs
+ Nice addition of sliver
+ I do like the idea of the guitar pick logo as a primary logo

- Remember to stop the stitching at the hem
- White numbers and NOB on the blue jersey would look better
- The sabretooth tiger logo would look great as a shoulder patch

Rating: 7/10

Should patch? Blue script? Sean are you drunk?

lol laughing aside, I actually never even saw their jerseys before that. Just a weird coincidence I guess.

I meant on the name on the back of the jersey, they looked like a darker blue to me, I now see that they are black once you point that out....that's silly of me

I'll second Ryan for COTW.

Why don't you just post the concepts sent in for contests on the regular daily blog?
