Tuesday: No Shame November

Today is Tuesday. Tuesday means that I'm writing the blog post. I am Dylan. Dylan Nowak to be precise, or formerly known as Dylan Wonka. My posts have recently had the logo tournaments on them. Today we find out who won the OHL segment of that tournament.

First let me talk about Movember versus No Shave November? Which one do you follow? If you follow it at all. I will be participating in Movember, for a couple of reasons. 1.) At work I can't have noticeable facial hair without having to shave. 2.) I can't really grow noticeable mustache hair, so I can do that for a whole month and barely anyone would notice.
For those that don't know, Movember is leaving just the mustache for November for what I believe is men's prostate cancer awareness. Or maybe just men's health in general. Regardless, I think it's the better option. No Shave November looks cool and all but I don't want to be called a hipster and two, it would be an embarrassment for me to consider my No Shave November beard a beard.

Also, GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS THIRD JERSEY COMPETITION HAS STARTED! This is a pretty big deal for this site. It's (almost) the only competition that we see that you could actually see your winning design made and used by a professional team. If that isn't exciting then I don't know what is. That's why you're sending in concepts, right? To see them actually worn? Hopefully.

That leads me to my last news of the day.

OHL LOGO TOURNAMENT CHAMPION:

Greyhounds won the championship vote 4-3 over the Oshawa Generals.

They will move on to the finals in roughly 6 months when we figure out who wins the other leagues. I figured this logo would be one of the favorites to win. I mean, I think the whole thing can be kind of obvious for some but it's nice seeing which logos get voted for, and who thinks which design is better.

Next week we will figure out the AHL!

COTW Oct 25-31 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
ReWrite History Comp (entries due Wednesday @ 9:59pm Eastern)
GR Griffins Comp (Nov. 23rd @ 11:59 pm Eastern)

------------------------------

Phoenix Coyotes 90's Concept - Brooks F.
I could see this design being a prototype design for the Coyotes before entering the league. I could also see one of these being a third jersey for one of their seasons. I would much much much prefer these to their actual alternate. I'll look at this from the perception of releasing in the 90's. It uses an old logo, and treats the design as very original, uses the logo as inspiration, but also keeps it quite traditional. To be honest I think having the orange one actually made as a jersey in the 90's wouldn't have been bad at all. Really hits the desert theme but gives them a nice unique jersey to their own set. I really like these jerseys.

Winnipeg Jets Concept - Ryan C.
These Jets jerseys go for a traditional look. The striping is somewhat unique to them. I'm not a fan of the number font though. It screams baseball to me, and baseball does not fit with Winnipeg, Jets or hockey to me. Block style font or a modern block style would fit in great here to match the logos modernized look. On the white jersey I'm not sure if I agree with a white collar. Going with blue I think would be the better choice. Other than that I would just include a shoulder logo to give more bulk to the overall look.

Rating: 8.2/10

Detroit Red Wings Concept - Zeke G.
I'm pretty sure I saw this posted on CCSL. If I'm not mistaken it was meant to be a Stadium Series jersey? Would love if you could answer that in the comments section Zeke! It fits the Stadium Series modern look very well, jersey wise. I think if you wanted to go with the winged look you could have done more. I don't really see much "wing" to the sleeves at all. Just looks like 3 little blimps. I would explore a better winged look to it. By doing so I think you could use a different logo. The new flying 'D' would fit really well if you perfected the sleeve wings. I think the hem striping them would either need to be removed to keep the modern feel or changed to fit the sleeve design. Overall though if you go with a nice winged sleeve pattern, removing the hem stripe would be the way to go.

Rating: 6.9/10

What did you think of today's concepts? I'm going to give Brooks a COT NOMINATION for his Coyotes look. Very unique concept for them, we don't see that too often on here.

Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments!

Yep, it was supposed to be a Stadium Series jersey. I'm glad it got some attention on CCSL. Thanks for the review, and I do think that the new SS logo would work better with it.

Brooks F's Gecko 'Yotes concept for COTW

I find it odd that the "Coyotes" concept doesn't have a Coyote on it.

Second the COTW nom for Brooks' gecko thing. No it doesn't have a coyote on it but i like it anyway.

I thought we all had to use the same template to be entered into the Griffins contest?

@Ryan C: Yes, that is true. I don't have time to sort through the rule breakers. The Griffins will do that.
