Wednesday: Back Again
Jets96 here, filling in for Phil today. He's taking his time to heal after the Islanders were eliminated by the Lightning...yes, the Lightning who limped into the playoffs, the Lightning without their best player, the Lighting who had to re-enlist the help of former Moosehead and professional hold out Jonathan Drouin, though that last part has actually helped them.
In other news, I got the East entirely wrong...go me...and now both games in the West come down to game 7. If only the Sharks could have finished off the Preds on Monday. I'm sure Caz would be delighted with the Preds moving on, and to be fair I would too, but I am rooting for the Sharks & Blues. Basically, anyone but the Pens!
In jersey news, it looks MORE AHL teams are moving. The Portland Pirates are moving, likely to Springfield replace the current Falcons with likely another Falcons team, and the Pirates will likely move to the ECHL and possibly keep their name. Meaning Manchester, Norfolk, Worcester and Portland will have ECHL teams next year, when 2 years ago none of them did.
More so speculative, Belleville might be getting an AHL...yes AHL team, as the Sens want a closer AHL team than Binghamton, New York. If Belleville gets the team, any name but Bulls is sacrilege, but wouldn't it be funny if Hamilton took Belleville's OHL team, and then Belleville got an AHL team? Having semi-pro hockey in Belleville would be awesome, and I know the people of Belleville would love it!
Hopefully this will inspire some awesome concepts from readers and artists like you!
Speaking of AHL relocation, let's check out today's Tucson entries: Once again, there are none, so hopefully that means we'll be getting a big rush near the end of the competition. Entries are due Friday!
Remember what I said about the new COTW nomination and weekly format, well if you don't, Ryan provides a run down here.
Speaking of COTW, you need to vote on that, or else your playoff picks will lose.
Same thing goes double for COTY April!
Ready for today's 10 concepts!? Good!
Florida Panthers Concept (By: Lucas D.)
+ The Panther head on its own looks gorgeous on this jersey
+ The striping and yoke are absolutely gorgeous, the jersey has a good vintage vib and calls on the team's history while also being original
+ Good colour balancing
+ Good execution
- Numbers on the back are too small
- Inner collar/shoulders should be the same colour as the yoke on the other side, not gradient
- The red space in-between the outline throws off the logo's eyes a lot, to me at least
Rating: 8.25/10
North America U-23 World Cup of Hockey Concepts (By: Taylor R.)
+ I think North America was by far the best jersey to come out of theWorld Cup unveiling, but Taylor makes it better imoe
+ Striping is perfect, the pattern is a lot more noticeable thanks to the orange
+ Speaking of orange, adding all that orange makes the jerseys pop a lot more and helps tie the jersey to the logo
+ Perfect execution
+ God job working with the Adidas template to help the concept rather than placing a concept onto the template, it flows seamlessly
- The NA logo on the helmet would look better grey and add that colour to the helmet
- Not so much a minus, but I think some of the weathering effect on the lighter grey on the arms and pants would look cool
Rating: 9.5/10 COTW Nom from me!
Kitchener Rangers Concepts (By: Ryan C.)
+ Thank you for giving away from the Rangers theme, yes it is another Rangers' script, but they haven't used it in at least 23 years, 31 in red, and the team was awful in baseball when they are it, why not let Kitchener use it
+ Good to see lots of red, I think the K-Rangers could use that to their advantage
+ Simple striping pattern, but it works with the jersey
+ Good execution
- The WWI soldier doesn't go with the Texas script at all, I would have used the Star/Sheriff logo from the 90s if you wanted the Wild West theme
- The round numbers also don't work that well with the Rangers script, but I like it with the soldier logo. If you wanted to keep the script logo, I'd use the angled numbers the team used in 1985
Rating: 8/10
Iserlohn Roosters DEL Concepts (By: Jay S.)
+ Really like how Jay ties city history into the jerseys. The colours are form the city crest as well as the logo, and having the city logo in the collar insert is a nice touch
+ The striping pattern looks really nice, like a hybrid of the 08 All Star Game and the '76 Rangers/80-89 Jets
+ Good execution, Jay has improved as an artist a lot in the part little while and I look forward to what he'll produce in the future
- Because of the black on the rooster, the logo is hard to see from a distance on the blue jersey, it'd benefit from a white outline
- The striping would benefit from going further down the arms or adding an arm cuff
Rating: 8.25/10
2017 Winter Classic Concept (By: Jamie R.)
+ The Blues jersey is really clean, I like how Jamie chose to stick to the 60s colours, but use the modern shades
+ The Blackhawks jersey is perfect if the team finally decides to go with the 20s colour scheme, and seeing the logo in black/vintage white
+ Striping on both jersey is excellent, classic but not in your face
+ Great execution
- The socks on the blue jersey should have white on the bottom like on the hem of the jersey
- Arms on the Blackhawks jersey would look better with the C tomahawk on the arms in the new colour scheme
Rating: 8.75/10
Winnipeg Jets Concept (By: Lucas D.)
+ The Striping has a really nice 70s look to it with all the white spaces, but the logo and numbers help keep things modern
+ Love the custom logo and font, they all go together well
+ Striping looks really good, a little Kings like but is technically the same as the Jets current striping
+ Great execution
- Imagine how good the Jets current shoulder patch would look in these colours? It'd help keep the upper arms from looking so Columbusy
Rating: 9/10
Reading Royals Concepts (By: Ryan C.)
+ Lots of purple is a plus for a team that uses the old Kings colour scheme
+ Nice unique numbers that go with the logos
+ Striping, again is really simple and works, but the black side patches aisle really work and add colour to both jerseys
+ Good execution
- The boxed script is a little large on the helmets
- The purple jersey needs more white, probably like how the purple is on the cuffs/hem
Rating: 8.5/10
Florida Panthers Prediction (By: Brian B.)
+ As to what we've seen so far, this is accurate, the logo and numbers/striping that is
+ I like how bright the jersey is, makes me think about how warm Florida is, but it's well off set by the big blue numbers and gear
+ Striping does look good, it's a good size
+ Good execution
- The one shoulder patch (which I think is accurate) would really tick me off.
- From what I've heard, the script above the Panther head will be inverted to how you'd expect it: Florida on the home and Panthers on the road, that would annoy me a lot
- Blank pants/helmets are a big no no (though I do understand since we don't know what the script will look like or if there are any other logos other than the flag/shield
Rating: 8/10 on the prediction, 7.75/10 on the concept
Florida Panthers Concepts (By: Tyler M.)
+ Nice to see someone attempt the white jersey, we haven't seen much of that from the Panthers for concepts, and I think Tyler is decently accurate
+ Striping is accurate and colours are decently balanced
+ Decent execution, Tyler is improving
- Where's the shoulder patches? The jersey needs it
- The numbers are very plain, they need more colour
- The hem striping doesn't really work, the colours aren't well balanced on it and throws it off
- NOB is too large
Rating: 6.5/10

C'mon T-Roy! We want heather gray striping on that bad boy!!!
I second Taylor's NA concept.
Cotw nom to Jamie R.
Now that I've read it I can believe I didn't use a white outline on the Roosters home jersey. Don't know how I missed that. Lol
COTW nom to Lucas's Jets concept. Love that logo!
3rd Taylor for COTW
