Wednesday: What is N'at?
If you guys read yesterday's post, my fellow writer, pairs comp partner and overall shenanigan maker Steven M said the following words to end his post.
Now I don't know what he means but I'll just roll with it. HI GUYS! WELCOME TO HOCKEY JERSEY CONCEPTS!
The voting phase for the Round of 16 is here! I missed the round by literally 2 votes, so to 2 of the 35 people that didn't vote for me, I hate you, but I don't know which two to hate so I'll forgive all of you. BUT ONLY IF YOU VOTE! Yes I did the math. Shut up.
Easier math: 1 winner from 5 concepts means each concept is 20% likely to win. I want you to skewer those chances. How? Voting. One catch: You can't see how you are skewering those numbers. We know you people.
ON TO THE CONCEPTS!
Brooks F: Baie-Comeau Drakkar (QMJHL) Concept
Start of today's reviews with a bang! And a boat. I love the minimal use of black trim around the yellow on the jerseys. A simple thing like this helps avoid YOWS (yellow-on-white syndrome). That also allows you to have yellow numbers to balance out the red on the white jersey. But what really makes this concept is that beautiful yellow jersey. Simple all around, old fashioned logo, and high stripes on the body of the jersey, under the yoke. The only execution note is that to have the effect you want on that, the top front stripe has to run parallel to the yoke outline, since it does the same on the back, and only because that's how this particular template works.
Come Sail Away: 86%
Jay S: Arizona Coyotes Concept
I'm enjoying this one a lot. Striping is top notch (love the sand in the middle of the road jersey striping). Love the idea for the alternate. Use of black works here. The paw-print alternate logo is one of my favorite things to come from Arizona's new set, so I like that you include it. I would have done two things, one out of personal preference and the other out of necessity. I would prefer a black helmet on the home jersey, only because of how it looks against the shoulder yoke. The other thing is that if you look carefully enough, the black you used here isn't the same shade of black in the main logo. That needs to be fixed ASAP.
Paint it Black: 79%
Jordan R: Indianapolis Ice (IHL) Concept
While I applaud your efforts to male a new logo, I can't say I'm in love with it. That said, I also am not in love with that arm striping. It's too close to the cuff for my liking, thus leaving the sleeves empty for the most part. Those numbers are HUGE though. Let the name plate breathe.
Ice Ice Baby: 74%
Jordan R: Kalamazoo Wings (IHL) Concept
This is a much better looking color scheme for the Wings, while the original is still nice, I love the green and yellow, and the bevel is a nice tough. I just wish you had switched the green and black on the white jersey's striping and yoke. Numbers are still massive. Nice look on the third getting rid of black. But maybe yellow numbers?
Spread Your Wings: 80%
Jordan R: Lansing Lancers (IHL) Concept
I love what you did with the logo. Even the alternate gives off a nice medieval look, especially with the crossed jousting lance-hockey stick combos. Numbers look much better here but why do you have white socks on that purple throwback? Other than that, no issues.
Suburban Knights: 86%
Ryan C: Anaheim Ducks Concept
Here we have a full sleeve pattern, with a little orange underneath it. Just from a nostalgia perspective I like the logo choice. The only thing I wish you could so is maybe add some gold trim, at least along the orange, bordering the main portion of the jersey, if only to match the hem stripes. Otherwise clean and classy, with some flair of course, and typical from Ryan.
I couldn't find a good duck related song: 85%
The winner of my COTW nomination is:

LANSING LANCERS CONCEPT
Well that wraps up another Wednesday. My hockey for today is done and I'm off to a soccer match. So I'll pass the hockey off to BPoe tomorrow! See ya!
EDIT: Steven has just explained that "n'at" is Pittsburgh slang meaning "and what not". All I have to say about that is "FUGHETABOUTIT"!

Having a Michigan K-Wings jersey, I'm calling Jordan R.'s concept an improvement and deserves a COTW nom!
@jets96: What's the connection between the nominees for COTW?
OH shoot. Okay: Bridgeport plays in the AHL, the same league as the Springfield Falcons. The Springfield Falcons are the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. The Florida Panthers were an expansion team, just like Las Vegas. Las Vegas's concept ties in their city flag, just like the Rockies concept (Shoulder yoke design)
@Jets: LOL, okay, I was scratching my head trying to figure out one all around connection...Guess I'm big on city flag connections!
