Sunday: A Yellow Jersey 30 Years in the Making

Hi everybody. Welcome back to HJC. Since everybody else has set their opinions on the Vegas Golden Knights logos, I'm going to skip that and go right into the latest NHL jersey reveal. On Friday, the Pittsburgh Penguins unveiled their upcoming Stadium Series jersey and, I must say, it looks beautiful.

Photos from NHL.com
As most people hoped and wished and prayed, the Penguins went with a yellow jersey. Let's get to the judging:
Positives: Yellow jersey with black sleeves with a simple yellow stripe, Simple but effective, City of Champions patch, Penguins logo without the triangle.
Negatives: The white on the collar, the captain's patch, and the number and letter font.
Overall: 8.75/10 I need one now!

Anyways, we have the COTW voting going on as usual and the logo for the Concept of the Year is coming up soon so be prepared.

Onto the Concepts!

 Avi Stein- Chicago Blackhawks
Positives: Really nice to see a black jersey for the Blackhawks. The fact that it does stray away from the original black alternate striping but looks similar enough really makes this an effective jersey.
Negatives: The yoke just bothers me. It's annoying to have the nameplate in the yoke instead of having it under it. It doesn't really have any effect on the design though.
Overall: 9/10

Avi Stein- Detroit Red Wings
Positives: Bringing back the italicized "D" as the primary looks really good on the front of this jersey. The striping works well as well. It balances the jersey perfectly with the logo.
Negatives: None
Positives: 10/10 COTW NOMINEE!

 Avi Stein- Los Angeles Kings
Positives: It's nice that you kept the grey jersey with the black yoke from the first Stadium Series. That jersey always looked really good. Also, Thank you for getting rid of the big black stripe at the bottom. That thing is just terrible on the current jerseys.
Negatives: The gold accents are nice but putting them in the striping is too much gold to be present. Also, I see that you took the original inside collar design and brought it out to the back. While it looks good on the back of the collar, It was nice to see it with some purple as a nod to the original colors and that would have been nice to see on this jersey (subtly I may add).
Overall: 8.5/10

Bradley Debode- Ontario Reign

Positives: There's a lot I like about all of these. To start with the Primary set, the design of the 80's striping with the addition of a modern style yoke really gives this jersey a different look. And as for alternate, A grey version of the current Kings jerseys turned out to be a really good look.
Negatives: That numbering just doesn't go well with the design of the jersey and the TV numbers on the alternate look a little small.
Overall: 8.25/10

Taylor Roy- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Positives: The striping looks really good on the jersey with the crest logo. Also, the white jersey looks nice with that split navy to white style on the sleeves.
Negatives: Those numbers don't seem to fit the look of the jersey. Maybe something similar to the logo or a tradition block? Other than that this is solid.
Overall: 8.75/10

Taylor Roy- UCONN Huskies
Positives: Much better to see the husky instead of "UCONN" on the front of the jersey and the numbers look a lot better on this jersey than the UND jersey set.
Negatives: Going with a red accent stripe as on the sleeve stripes as well as going with a half sleeve design has a lot going on and that's not always a good thing. Take the red accents or sleeve stripe design down a little with the half stripe design please.
Overall: 8.25/10

Tyler Meli-Skewis- Calgary Flames
Positives:  The striping design looks really good on this. It give a whole new look to the flames jersey design. Also, thank you for getting rid of the accent stripes.
Negatives: The Ranger's style yoke is a little bit much.
Overall: 8.25/10

DT Concepts- New York Islanders
Positives: like the simplicity of the style of it. The basis of the Stadium Series design is nice as well but give it a much more traditional style looks really good.
Negatives: That collar is just strange.
Overall: 8/10

DT Concepts- Los Angeles Kings
Positives: Simple design with a better collar. The simplicity is nice because it gives a design look back to the original style of the jersey.
Negatives: The gold is too prominent on the jersey. It doesn't look like a kings jersey anymore with that much gold.
Overall: 8/10

Ok guys that's all I got. Thanks again for sending in all these concepts. Have a good week and I'll talk to you all next week.
