Islanders, Take A Look!
I was reading yesterday's comments and the topic of a Lokomotiv tribute contest came up. This is a hockey blog about jersey and logo designs. I was trying to stay away from all of the unfortunate hockey deaths that have occurred this summer (Boogaard, Rypien, Belak, Lokomotiv). Not because I was sticking my head in the sand and ignoring them, but because I was trying to keep this blog up-beat while almost everything else was a downer. Apologies to anyone who had an idea to do a tribute contest, but there will be no such contest here. I personally find it inappropriate to generate any sort of material for this site from such terrible happenings. I do encourage those of you who want to, to send in your tribute concepts. They will be moved to the front of the line in the rotation and posted ASAP. Finally, to everyone who has been affected by these terrible events this summer, I'm sure all of the readers here at HJC would back me up when I say that our thoughts and well wishes are with you.Here are some NCAA ReDesign entries that have come in. I have more, but I'm trying to spread them out over the week.

If you want to take part in the NCAA ReDesign, you have until Sunday @ 11:59pm EST to get your concepts in. Check out the NCAA COMP page and read all of the rules before you submit your entry.
Today is the last day to vote for COTW and COTY-August. Both votes end at 11:59pm EST tonight. Voting has been down as only 7 votes have been cast in each vote. That's 7 votes out of 22 Voting Committee members.

Cody has used the former Bloomington Prairie Thunder logo and has place it on some good sweaters. I like the striping on those sweaters and I think the colours also work well with them. I'm guessing this is supposed to be an AHL team due to the tags inside the collar and on the back hem of the jerseys. These seriously lack some numbers and/or shoulder patches. Also, I don't understand the name change. Why not continue to call them the Bloomington Prairie Thunder? Plus, the animal in the logo is a bison.Buffalo Sabres concepts (by Arthur)
We had something very similar to this by Kris yesterday. Arthur has added the "B & sword" logo as a shoulder patch and he's also added the current 3rd jersey into the mix.Carolina Hurricanes concept (by Connor)
Solid striping pattern. I do love a grey alternate jersey too! I'd like to see the grey a little darker though. With the use of a grey jersey I think keeping the black in the logo would have been a better choice. Then, a very thin black trim around the numbers would have been cool as well.Justice League concepts (by Nevill)
I'm not a comic book guy so I can not accurately comment on these jerseys. Anyone who is a comic guy, please let Nevill know what you think about his concepts! My only note is that I prefer the current, darker Batman look to the Adam West Batman.New York Islanders concept (by John B.)
It looks like this year the Islanders will once again throw their name in the hat for worst jersey! These next concepts, I think, are all better than what they will release. I like the double blue John uses here. I think the logo would be stronger if the wordmark was arched over Long Island. Even though the Isles have a great wordmark on their helmets already, they decided to create a worse one for the new jersey. Kris uses the better wordmark for his black concept and retains the classic template the Islanders use anyways. If the Isles wanted to go with a black jersey, this would have been my choice.New York Islanders concept (by Ryan)
I tried to keep some of the same elements from the new 3rd jersey and try to make it better. I'm really starting to like coloured collar laces, so I added those. I used a new wordmark also, but I kept the font and numbers that they will use. What do you think? Better or worse?Tomorrow, I will post the Winnipeg Jets jersey concept "upgrades".

i like the justice league jerseys a lot. plus i moved them to tennesse because i have no idea where blooomington is.
Ryan's islanders jersey for COTW, I love the simplicity of it!
I love the Robin for the JL jerseys. Even added laces just like he has.
And to all about the islanders new 3rd. Why wont they just black out the jersey? just switch blue for black. it still doesn't look good, but the NY Mets basically have the same colors.
@ Tommy: Thanks for the compliment. I didn't expect anyone would catch onto the laces that Robin wears on his unifo-er, costume.

Im a comic book guy myself um...and well I'm a DC fan too ...they don't look too bad I know I would get a Superman jersey at the drop of a dime...even though I think he would have 'Kent' instead ...and Batman would have 'Batman' (that's how they view themselves) Id love to see a whole line of the JLA ...maybe a new Tim Drake 'Red Robin' jersey...Wonder Woman Jersey...some of the rest of the Green Lantern corps. jerseys ..
Nevill's Justice League concepts are getting enough positive response that I think they deserve a COTW nomination...and I will give it such.
@ Andy: Thanks, man! I thought "Kent" would have been cool too but decided on Jor-El (if only to toss a hyphen into the namebar; a first for me!) I thought about doing a take on Marvel's heroes but that would prove challenging as not many of them have 'logos' per se. Doing a Wonder Woman jersey would also be a challenge; seeing as she wears next to nothing. Not that I'm complaining.....
