Friday: Black and Blue Friday

Hello jersey enthusiasts. I am going to keep today's post short and snappy because I realize many of you are still in turkey comas, and the rest of you are probably viewing this on you smartphone while you wait in line for a $3 HDTV.

Voting committee members, today is your last day to vote for the logo design portion of the expansion contest.

Expansion logos Top 3 votes (ends Friday @ 11:59pm EST)

---------------------------------------------------

On to today's concepts!

San Diego Chargers (concept by Brian B.)

Likes: The extended shoulder yoke/sleeve piping is really cool. Also, the font looks really good, it's angular and matches the lightning bolt theme.

Dislikes: Both of these jerseys appear fairly empty, this emptiness makes them appear a bot bland.

Suggestions: I might try switching up the colour of the sleeve stripes (have the white one on the blue jersey, and vice versa) it would make these sweaters a little more interesting, in my opinion.

Rating: 7/10.

Chilliwack Chiefs (concept by Steven G.)

Likes: The arm striping with the numbers in between looks great. I also like how the number font matches the logo, great job on that.

Dislikes: not much to complain about.

Suggestion: I would raise the hem stripe a little bit.

Rating: 8/10.

Toronto Maple Leafs (concept by Chris L.)

Likes: I really like these logos for the Leafs, and the recreation of a classic Leafs look

Dislikes: Not much to dislike, I don't like the cuff striping. I would have continues the sleeve striping all the way down to the end of the cuff.  There are a few errors, which I dislike. The chest logo is far too big. The shoulder patches are placed incorrectly. There are also not tv numbers. There are a lot of loose pixels around the logos, and numbers and names. Also, all stripes and jersey elements should go over jersey stitching (so the stitching on the white part of the arm of the white jersey should end once it hits the blue, and vice versa for the other sweater).

Suggestions: fix the errors. Look at the tutorials section for some guidance.

Rating: 6/10.

Philadelphia Flyers (concept by Kyle C.)

Likes: this idea, the Flyers in ONLY black and orange actually works well for me. I wouldn't want this to be an alternate, but it could make a nice fan jersey.

Dislikes: I am not a fan of the keystone captain's letter in this context.

Suggestions: get rid of the keystone outline, and you have yourself a perfect fan jersey.

Rating: 8/10.

Toronto Maple Leafs (concept by Casey R.)

Likes: These sweaters are clean as a germophobes light-switches. As I said before, I love this logo for the Leafs.

Dislikes: This striping pattern is a too Pittsburgh. Toronto Has plenty of striping designs to draw on.

Suggestions: Pick a striping design that has more history in the leafs organization... they have plenty to draw on.

Rating: 8/10.

Chicago Blackhawks (concept by Keens)

Likes: that this is a modern third, not a throwback. kudos for going that direction. I love the patch in the sleeve stripes. I also like the shoulder yoke striping. It reminds me of wings, which gives off a slightly military vibe. This really wrks for me considering that the Blackhawks were named for the Blackhawk infantry division from WWI. I don't know if the tie in was intentional, but it works for me. I also love how the feathers are placed on the helmet to mimic the logo... very cool.

Dislikes: not much. I am not crazy about the logo. the braid extending from behind the neck looks a bit weird, but you didn't make the logo, so in a sense not your problem.

Suggestions: I might make the TV numbers a bit bigger. This is just my stylistic preference. Also, on a presentation note, this template is designed to work with Ryan's NHL shopview template. The jersey on the full body template is 63% of the NHL shopview template. I find presentation looks better this a large size jersey (front and back) next to the full body template.

Rating: 9/10 and a COTW nom from me.

Does anyone else think that the Chargers jersey looks like the ''buffaslug''uniform?

Kyles Flyers for COTW

I really like Keen's concept, except for the shoulder yokes. They just seem out of place, especially for a blackhawks jersey. Nevertheless, I second the COTW nom.
