Wednesday: Words and Concepts
Voting Reminders
Five concepts were nominated for COTW last week. Now we need you're votes to determine who will win. Vote, vote, vote...
Columbus Blue Jackets, by Darren H:
Good - Using the stripes from the current socks on the jerseys make a lot of sense. The cuffs with the three stars look awesome. The third jersey makes a good jersey, being different but still making sense as part of the teams identity.
Bad - I think their current logo is better than their original logo. Also execution wise, the shoulder yoke on the road jersey is different on the back compare to the front. 8/10
CHL Inter-League Classic, by JayV:
Good - Both jerseys have a very "classic" look. Even the league logos look retro. There's lots of details that are really good.
Bad - The back numbers would benefit from being a bit larger. Also a TV number is missing on the back view of the Armada's jersey. I also think the stripes on the Generals jersey are too thin. 7/10
Winnipeg Jets, by Steven G (myself):
Chicago Blackhawks, by Stephen T:
Good - The road jersey is good. Using black on the cuffs and hem remind me of the Blackhawks 1958-59 jersey.
Bad - The home jersey isn't very good in my opinion. I just don't think this striping pattern is anywhere near as good as their current jersey. It doesn't pop as much, and the black stripes get lost in the red. I also don't get the decision to axe their current shoulder logo. 7/10
Bad - Yellow pants, while staying true to the Steelers look, just don't work in hockey. 8/10
Houston Texans, by Dmitri G:
Good - Once again this concept does very well at translating the football team's jersey onto a hockey uniform. The shoulder stripes are very well done, and would be quite unique in hockey.
Bad - I'd recommend having an away helmet as well (same for this whole series), but I get why you didn't include it.
COTW nomination from me!!! 9/10

Concepts
I'm going to try the new like/dislike (or good/bad) system for reviewing these concepts. Although I'm not including suggestions, because my suggestions for all the concepts would be to change what I think is bad. Let me know if I should keep using this system or go back to the regular way.
University of New Brunswick, by David K:
Good - All three jersey look like university jerseys. By that I mean using wordmark's work very well for university teams, but not so much for NHL teams. I also like the decision to drop black from the colour scheme.
Bad - I don't like how the home and road jerseys look so much like Red Wing jerseys. In my opinion, something unique to the university would be much better. 7/10

I tried to use as much from their current jerseys as possible while making this Jets third jersey concept. I used their double stripes throughout this concept. I also used their current equipment, fonts and logos.

Pittsburgh Steelers, by Dmitri G:
Good - This concept seems to capture the spirit of the football teams' jerseys very well. I think the striping works even better on a hockey jersey than it does on a football jersey.Bad - Yellow pants, while staying true to the Steelers look, just don't work in hockey. 8/10

Darren for COTW.
I like the Steelers jersey, but there is one mishap (from the actual jerseys). The NOB should be yellow on the black jersey, and yellow with black outline on the white. Still a beauty of a concept.

I'll second Darren for COTW
On the Blue Jackets set, you said the yoke was different on the back compared to the front, I think it looks fine...
Nevermind I see it now, I was looking at the patches... oh boy
