Weekend Update
Sorry guys. No podcast this weekend.
I'm looking for someone who wants to become a writer for HJC. A spot has opened up on Thursdays. If you would like to fill that spot then click the banner at the top of the page.
I'm also looking for 2012 HJC Concept of the Year logos. There are no rules here. Just come up with something awesome! If I like your logo it will be used as the 2012 COTY logo and be placed on the 2012 Concept of the Year championship plaque!
This past week the 2011 COTY came to life, sort of. Josh S. designed THIS jersey and won the Concept of the Year last year with it. It was also his entry into the Lethbridge Hurricanes' 3rd jersey competition and it won.
The team laid out in the rules that the winning design could be used as "inspiration" for a new jersey rather than the actual jersey itself. That seems to be what happened here as Josh's logo was used, but the Canes did their own thing with the jersey. That rubs me the wrong way a bit as it seems like the team used a jersey design competition as a disguise to get a free new logo. That's just my opinion.
Anyways, this will be the Hurricanes' 3rd jersey for the entire season. Josh was presented with his own replica jersey in a ceremony at centre ice before the game. Congrats Josh!
The names have been chosen for our NHL Expansion franchises. It's now time to create the logos!!!
The NHL Expansion names are in a WOAH everybody got very creative! For the Quebec franchise, people really stepped out of the box as 35% of the voters chose to name the team the Nordiques...again. Don't get me wrong, when Quebec actually gets a team in real life they SHOULD be the Nordiques. I just thought people might want to be a bit more creative for this competition. On that note, I am also allowing the 2nd place name to be used if you choose. That name is the Voyageurs.
For Seattle, again the creative juices were flowing and the Metropolitans (or Metros) name was chosen with 23% of the votes. Just like our Quebec franchise, I will allow the 2nd place name to be used as well. Oh look, that one is unique as well, the people chose Totems! So, I will also allow the 3rd place name to be used. It's a few variations of the Seattle Sound and they can all be found by clicking the banner at the top of the page or you can go to the EXPANSION tab.
The winner of the COTW for October 29 to November 4 is Avi with his Phoenix Coyotes concept. This concept beat out Avi's other nominated entry in a playoff, a Predators concept.
The new COTW nominees have been listed on the side of the page. You can see the nominated concepts by clicking on that banner. Or you can go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Committee Members have until Thursday @ 11:59pm EST to vote.
The winner of the COTW-October vote is Justin C!
The winner of the No Horizontal Lines Competition is Keens!
Here are the results from the Top 5 Voting. If your name doesn't appear then unfortunately you did not receive any votes.

I partly agree with you about the new Lethbridge Hurricanes jersey how they used just the logo not the whole jersey but I still like it, I think they should ditch the capitals style jersey and adopt the third jersey as their permanit home and create a simular away jersey.
I believe the Hurricanes' jersey design was a matter of choosing an existing Reebok template to save money rather than having a completely custom design. The last few years have been financially challenging for the team, so I expect that to have played into the decision.
The response to the jersey in Lethbridge has been outstanding. Replicas in the team shop are almost sold out, and the large and extra large sizes are already gone. Based on that, I wouldn't be surprised to see the team make use of the design beyond this season.
Also, that presentation photo isn't from the Hurricanes. I'm usually the guy down there shooting those photos for CanesCast, so I brought in a photographer friend to shoot the pre-game ceremony for me. It should be credited to Rod Leland.
Thanks Josh. I will change the credit on the photo soon.
GOOD, Keens wins the NHLines comp. Great job Keens
