Wenesday: Blue Jackets, Ducks, and More

Before I get to the post I'll quickly update you folks.  Occasionally I may have other things going on that prevent me from being  near a computer on my day to post.  If this happens, the post will still go up at the normal time (4:30pm EST) by auto-posting, but I will not be able to do the Twitter and Facebook links until later.  Sorry.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday Ryan tweeted some pretty cool news, "2011 Concept of the Year (by Josh S.) will be worn by the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday, November 7. Congrats Josh!".  Here is the concept Ryan was talking about.  Congratulations Josh.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lots of votes going on right now, and there is also the NHL Expansion voting.  The voting was down last week, so if you're a committee member, make sure you get your vote in.

New Jersey Devils (by Steven W.)
Adding greys to the Devils colour scheme is very interesting, especially using them as the base colours for both jerseys.  I kind of don't know what to think of these, sometimes when I look at them I think they're great, other times I don't like them.  One thing that I think should be changed is to make the sleeve and hem stripes the same size.  7/10 or 8/10 (I can't decide).

Chicago Bulls (by Mike S.)
I get that this is inspired by the Basketball teams jersey, but the script logo is so boring.  Why not put the primary logo there instead, it would probably be there if they were a hockey team.  The same complaint about the striping from the concept above applies here too. Also this should have TV numbers, and the back numbers could be moved up a bit.  7/10

Brooklyn concept (by JayV)
This concept was based off of a jersey seen on The Chappelle Show.  I don't know if this is for a specific team on that show, or if it was just seen in the background.  The jersey actually reminds me a lot of the original Penguin uniforms, with the word-mark logo, the large amount of stripes, and the drop shadow on the numbers.  It does look quite good, I have no complaints.  8/10

Columbus Blue Jackets (by Stephen T.)
The striping on these jerseys look very nice, and I can't complain about the fonts (except the TV numbers are huge).  I just hate all the vintage white, that's just a personal preference, but I just hate vintage white so much.  There are also some things that bother me about the recoloured logos (like the shadow of the banner is lighter than the actual banner on the road jersey), which are very pixilated.  6/10

Columbus Blue Jackets (by Avi S.)
At first I thought this was an average concept, until I saw what the striping on the sleeves and socks were from.  It's taking from the Ohio flag, which is also on the Jackets logo.  The whole jersey looks very good, the piping isn't my favourite but it doesn't ruin the jersey.  8/10

Carolina Hurricanes (by Tyler G.)
Yesterday you saw a red Hurricanes concept by Tyler, today is the white version.  I liked the red version better, but this one is good too.  I like the decision to use the Hurricane stripes on the sleeves as well.  Also, unlike Dylan, I like the decision to simplify the colour scheme.  Seeing these two concepts by Tyler make the grey in the Hurricanes current uniforms look very unnecessary, in my opinion.  8/10

Anaheim Ducks (by Daniel J.)
Daniel brings back the Ducks original logo, with their current colours, and pairs those up with some very tradition striping.  The striping does look good, it's just very safe for a team that has always had more unique striping.  One execution note, the back view of the home jersey's collar is coloured differently than all the other collars.  7/10

Anaheim Ducks (Brad M.)
Brad also brings back the Ducks original logo, but he also brings back their original colours.  I like this striping pattern a lot, it's still traditional, but it is also very unique (I hope that sentence makes sense).  I also like keeping their current name and number font.  I only have one very minor complaint, I don't think their current logo looks good in this colour scheme, so I wouldn't use it at all.  8/10

Toronto Maple Leafs (by Avi S.)
Wow, these look very good.  The double-stripes on the home and road have a nice retro feel, and they match the socks much better.  The third jersey is a nice throw-back jersey.  I like all the choices made here, and the execution is great, so I'll definitely give this a COTW nom.  9/10

Avi's Blue Jackets concept for COTW

I needed to put something on the blank purple pants and didn't want to repeat the primary. I really didn't like any of the other logos reschemed either (hence no shoulder patches). I literally went through every option for the new logo before I chose that one. Also have a 3rd for the set to come later...

It's now unnessecary but Avi's Blue Jackets for COTW anyways! I really love that jersey and would be perfect for Columbus.
