Wednesday: The Great Outdoors

Good day jersey freaks. I'm assuming you've all heard the news about the possibility of the NHL having 6 outdoor games next season, which would be held in Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Vancouver. How do you guys feel about it? I personally think it's overkill, but the league
does owe us big time for the half of a season we lost this year, so maybe, and hopefully, this only lasts a year. Also.....maybe we'll see a bunch of new jerseys for the games!

Three votes this week due to the playoff vote for March's concept of the month

COTY-Playoff vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm EST)
COTW Apr 8-14 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm EST)
NYR entries due (Friday @ 11:59pm EST)

And here's today's New York Rangers entries...

Oh, and we can't forget today's artist ID cards.....

Ok, NOW we can get to today's regularly scheduled concepts...

New York Yankees Hockey Concept - (DDragon60)
Batting lead off is DDragon, who brings us this Yankees inspired jersey as well and I'm not a fan. Pinstripes do not look good on a hockey jersey....I've tried.... Maybe if the pinstripes were sublimated and very subtle than maybe it would work. This might work on a baseball jersey since the striping follows the length of the jersey on the torso and the length of the arms on the yoke, but on a hockey jersey it just looks bad. I'd say either sublimate the pinstripes or incorporate them only very slightly and ditch the colored panels in favor of a more traditional hockey pattern since the Yankees are a tradition based team.

St. Cloud State (NCAA) - (Bobby P.)
Bobby's new set of sweaters is a lot better than their current Blackhawks ripoffs. These new threads feel very old school. Very basic striping pattern so not much to say. Though, the hem striping on the front of the red jersey doesn't match the back. I feel like Bobby just forgot to recolor the white jerseys striping. Not a huge deal.

New York Rangers Concept - (Joe A)
Joe takes the Rangers classic jerseys and ditches the arm stripes for an arm length yoke. I like how the white jerseys arm length yoke resembles the current yoke on their white jersey. I feel like there's too much white on their home though. I'd rather see the white arms stay blue and keep the red piping down the arm for consistency. Also, I don't know why, I'm just not liking the red pants here either. Maybe it's the thick blue line. I'd play around with that a little bit. Maybe make the pants striping match the jersey striping

Houston Astros Hockey Concept - (DDragon60)
DDragon gives us our first MLB related concept with the new look of the Houston Astros. The striping is ok, the stripes are very thin, which is what baseball teams tend to wear, but I think DDragon missed a HUGE opportunity to make a very neat looking jersey based off the Astro's old "Tequila Sunrise" jerseys since the new look is based off of the look from around that era. The arched name is a nice touch. I'd just make the striping thicker overall and move the hem stripes down a bit. Also move the shoulder patches off of the collar a little bit. Get your name somewhere on the concept as well.

Florida Panthers Concept - (Anthony C.)
Anthony redesigns the Panthers and gives them a whole new set of jerseys. Yellow now plays a bigger role in the color scheme, at least for the blue and white jerseys. I really like how blue is used on the arms of the white jersey. I like the diagonal striping on the arms and sides of the jersey but not so much on the socks. I also feel like the blue and white jerseys could use a bit more red. The blue jersey's socks should be blue at the bottom in my opinion as well. Still, pretty solid concept.

Montreal Canadiens Concept - (Stephen T).
Stephen is back and this time with a Canadiens concept. I rather like this. Most people will slam any Canadiens concept but I actually see this as an improvement to their current white jersey but this could also make a really nice third jersey for the team. Only thing I would fix is make the arm and sock striping the same thickness as the hem and shoulder stripes.

Philadelphia Flyers Concept - (Jets96)
Our good buddy Jets takes the Flyers old 3D logo and puts it on a recolored St. Louis jersey. Now, I actually don't mind this template, I rather like it. But since two teams (Blues and Preds) already wear it I would hate to see this jersey being used, but pretend those other jerseys don't exist, I actually like the jersey a lot. The Flyers have never had completely straight stripes on their arms so why start now? And the silver piping really fits in with the logo, even though I hate that logo. Overall solid concept, but oh wait..... not the long pants...get rid of those... there's a good reason the pants fad didn't last...

Rating: 8/10

Hartford Whalers Concept - (Jets96)
Our good friend Jets mashes two different eras of Whalers looks together by adding gray to their mostly green, white, and blue scheme they originally wore. I love the inverted cuff and hem colors. And the gray in my opinion looks nice, it'd look better if there was a little more blue though.

Yale University (NCAA) - (Bobby P.)
Everybody, kneel before the NCAA Champs! Bobby gives the champs a new set of jerseys that I see as a lateral move from their current set. I like these, don't get me wrong, but I like their current jerseys too. Literally the only thing I don't like about this concept is the use of the colored namebars. Sometimes they don't look bad but in this case, if you're too far away, it just looks like a rectangle with a bunch of squiggles inside of it.
