Monday: Devin! Devin! Goodbye Burmistrov, Hello Devin
Happy Monday everyone, the Jets have a new scorer and I am thrilled
Here are your voting reminders:
The HJC Open has begun, for those who entered, remember to get your concepts in by Wednesday at 6pm EST or 3pm PST. Please remember to read ALL the rules, as there are not many but, especially in an event this big, you want to make sure your entry is eligible. This will be my 3rd HJC Open, and I hope to make it out of the first round this year. Remember, this is a fun event, so put a lot of thought and creativity into your entries.
Just for fun, this was my first entry in the 2011 HJC Open!
Boy have I come along way since this, but it's fun to look back at old concepts, and many of my newer concepts have been updates of older concepts like this one, which I have not updated.
As I mentioned above, Devin Setoguchi was trade to the Jets for a 2nd pick, a good pick up as the Jets now have increased and solidified their top 6 line up. The Blue Jackets are making waves for next year with Nathan Horton, and Tyler Seguin is quoting Full Metal Jacket in his new home of Dallas. I simply cannot wait for next season and all the great players we'll see in their new homes.
On to the Concepts
Utica Comets Concepts (By: Andrew G.)
Our resident AHL master Andrew G., gives us a unique alternate for the Comets, and makes minor adjustments to the Home and Road jerseys. The elimination of blue cuffs on the white jersey is a solid move, as is spacing the green and white like how the green and blue are spaced on the white jersey, making the jerseys seem more unique but also keeping the solid Canucks elements. The alternate, while I'm not a huge fan of the template, is a solid look, and the hem stripe logo is a nice touch. I think it would look better in blue, but as is, it looks decent in black. (8/10)
HC Mountfield Concepts (By: Jake88)
Jak88 continues with the Euro League concepts, moving to the Czech Republic. HC Mountfield's current jerseys are decent, not completely ad dominated and having half Flyers yokes. I love this template, the original All-Star jersey looked great, and the Jake makes good use of the yoke style. I'm not a huge fan of the striping being cut off by the piping, I think, since Euro teams can pull off creative designs, make the striping only on the outside of the piping. (8.5/10)
HC Slavia Praha Concepts (By: Jake88)
Another team who has their jerseys dominated by ads, and loses the Eagle logo in the process. Jake uses pipling where ever possible, which imo works on monochromatic jerseys, like this one. The striping is good, but I think, without some ads, this jersey looks bare, or at least adding a 3rd colour. The Dallas Stars numbers are a nice touch. (7/10)
Lethbridge Hurricanes Concept (By: Kyle C.)
Lethbridge unveiled a new logo about a month ago, wich many people preferred to the Capitals rip-off script. That being said, the fact that they haven't made new jerseys to go along with the logo is disappointing, and Kyle gives a modern design which I am very impressed with. The Buffalo like striping is a solid move, even the piping looks good, and the swoop stripes look similar to the logo. I'd add a should patch to the jersey, like the awesome as seen on HJC plane logo made by Josh S. (9/10)
New York Islanders Concepts (By: Stephen T.)
Stephen has adapted well to the Swift Template, and brings the New York Islanders soon to be of Brooklyn, back to the early 2000's. without Dipietro. I've always liked this colour scheme more, and Stephen does a good job using the striping of the era, which looks less bland in Swift. I would add more orange on the blue jersey to resemble the Islanders original Edge jerseys, which are amazing and add the four stripes should patch. (8/10)
Boston Bruins Concept (By: Tom V.)
The Bruins current alternate isn't great, but the logo is great and should be used on a better jersey. Tom improves the jersey, adding a nice shoulder patch and using a striping pattern that hasn't been seen since Team USA in 2002. I think there is a little too much black, and I'd make the cuffs black and make the yoke yellow. (7.5/10)
Quebec Nordiques Concepts (By: Tristan M.)
The Nords will be getting an NHL franchise when they have the beautiful new arena to be built, and classic jerseys can be expected, but I think updates should be made, Tristan makes some of these necessary updates. The biggest problem I have with the Nords jerseys were the lack of striping and brightness of the blue. The blue is more crisp and the striping pattern is good. I love the red outline on the numbers and should be added to the striping. I would add the fleur de lis on the shoulder. (8.5/10)
Columbia Inferno Concepts (By: Jets96)
I re-did the concept twice after my successful ECHL re-design, as the original concept was too bland, lacked a hem stripe and proper colour balancing. I fixed the problems listed and hope this team returns...eventually once they get that arena.
Detroit Red Wings Saturday Night Classic Concept (By: Jets96)
Continuing with my Saturday Night Classic jerseys, is my fix to the Red Wings original Winter Classic jerseys. I kept the collar consistant with the time period as Kevin W. pointed out on Saturday, and boxed the arm numbers. This is based on the Detroit Cougars jerseys.
