Wednesday: Hey Guess What Day It Is....
Hello everyone, hope you're all having a fine day, so let's make it a little better with today's HJC post!
Before we get to the concepts don't forget to vote for COTW as well as those of you who are still in the HJC Open, your semi final entries are due tonight!

Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg (DEL) Concept - (Jake88)
The Grizzly Adams are possibly my favorite European team because of the name and logo. I love playing as them in the EA NHL games. Jake continues his European series with the Grizzly Adams and gives them a Ducks' template with claw marks on the back. I don't care for the Ducks' template and even though it looks pretty good here, I'd like to see the hem stripe disappear in favor of keeping the claw marks. The two aren't mixing well for me. Besides the numbers being spaced out too far I still like the jersey.

Kolner Haie (DEL) Concept - (Jake88)
Jake gives us another DEL concept today and this one is looking a little better. I like how the striping is exactly the same between the two jerseys, but look different because of how it looks with the different jersey colors. The white jersey resembles a new Hurricanes jersey. I feel like the black outline on all the numbers should be a tad thicker. Perhaps a white outline around the crest on the red jersey would help keep that logo from being lost in the "sea" of red......"sea" what I did there? What about there? teehee

Edmonton Oilers Anniversary Logo Concept - (Joey A.)
Joey drew inspiration from our logo contest. I'll allow you to read the description on the concept, just this time though.
As for the critique, I like the basic idea, I like how it's using elements from past logos. I feel like the "OILERS" at the bottom doesn't need to be there. I don't care for the diagonal numbers. This is definitely headed somewhere though. A little bit more refining and this is on it's way to being a good anniversary logo, better than what some teams have been throwing out there the past few years.

Minnesota Wild "University Style" Concept - (Ryan - HJC)
I like what Ryan has done here, and I'm not brown-nosing. This definitely fits the name too. Wordmark on the front, basic striping, very "university". I think the striping works the way it is, but I would like to see is with the thick beige stripe green and the two thin green stripes as beige so the striping is primarily green. just a thought. I feel like this would be a really good Winter Classic Jersey. One thing that's not sitting well with me is the little bits of red on the shoulders and the collar insert. I love the bear logo and really like in on the shoulders, but perhaps some more red throughout the jersey. Again, just a thought, the jersey still looks really good.

Colorado Avalanche Concept - (Andy C.)
Andy switches the Avs over to Nike while also ditching their current design in favor of, well, a better one. The best Avalanche concepts in my opinion have no black, angular, mountain like striping patterns, and a lot of blue, and this concept fits the bill. Perhaps I'd like to see the striping a bit thicker on the home and away but I'm a big fan of the Winter Classic alternate. Not sold on the trim-less numbers and letters. Maybe add some blue trim. Also, on the blue jersey, I don't like the white underarm, I'd keep that blue.Rating: 8/10
Vancouver Canucks Concept - (Felix T.)
Felix's idea for a Canucks third jersey features the "Stick in rink" on the front of the jersey with a sublimated orca on the right side of the chest. I don't care for the orca being there, if it's going to be anywhere it should be on the shoulders. The "V" also looks odd since it's so small. It tends to look better being big and bold but I normally don't care for the whole "V" in the striping anyway. I like the striping but not the TV numbers in the striping, I feel like it's harder to see them. Move the logo and the player number on the back up a bit, they seem way too low.Rating: 7/10
Colorado Avalanche Concept - (Jack H.)
Here's something I don't think we see too often, an Avalanche concept with a chest stripe. I think Colorado is one of the teams that it would be acceptable for to have the chest stripe. They've been around for over 20 years and have at least some history in the league and the colors look good together. The striping sits funny with me as the striping doesn't match, but the fact that both jerseys feature a chest stripe I guess makes it ok. For this concept though, I prefer the dark jersey striping, though I do like the white jersey pattern too!

Florida Panthers Concept - (Jack H.)
Jack suggests only minor changes for the Cats. The shoulder length yoke now goes all the way along the back and the Reebok logo is yellow. The helmet logo is a recolored "FLA" logo and there is a hem stripe added. Not really a lot done here to make this a great concept, just a quick fix. Execution it good though.Rating: 6/10

Pittsburgh Penguins Concept - (Tyler G. - HJC)
We'll end our day with tomorrow's writer, Tyler, who suggests the Penguins go a more traditional route with their striping as opposed to their Reebok cookie-cutter nonsense. Like Jack's Avalanche concept from today, the striping is inconsistent between the jerseys but they share a very similar look so it's kind of hard to tell. This concept kind of pulls a "Carolina" though as each jersey is different but way similar to someone else's jersey. The white jersey says "Islanders" to me while the black jersey kind of, but not completely, resemble a green Minnesota jersey. Still though, good looking set. Hard to make a set look bad in these colors.

Ryan - HJC for COTW
Some interesting and insightful critiques today.
I find the critique on striping consistency interesting. It would be an interesting debate amongst jersey aficionados such as ourselves. I don't think there is a right or a wrong answer on this one. Personally, I don't think that completely consistent striping between a home and an away jersey is necessary.
For example, the Montreal Canadiens are inconsistent but, I would suggest, sufficiently similar. In fact, the variation between the home and away is what adds character to the overall kits in my mind. And the Chicago Blackhawks in the strictest sense of consistent have striping variation - yet who would disagree that the Hawks overall kit is, if not the best in the league, certainly always in the conversation.
However, too much discrepancy detracts. The pre-Edge Senators jerseys for example were all over the map.
Sorry to go on here - I hope this isn't too much! I actually think the critique today of striping inconsistency is valid and well founded. It was well written and well thought out. This is not a criticism of the writers opinion - let me be clear. I do think there is a lot of grey area though which makes for an interesting discussion amongst us jersey enthusiasts!
I agree for the most part but when I see the blackhakws jersey I see the same "5 stripe" pattern on the arm.
The Blackhawks have a five-stripe pattern on both jerseys. The fact that the outermost stripes on the sleeves are the same color as the jersey itself doesn't change that. After all, I'm looking at my authentic jersey right now and the sleeve stripe stitching doesn't end after the white stripes. It ends after the red stripes of the same width.
I agree with Dylan there, I see the same "5-stripe" pattern on both jerseys. It's just that the red stripes on the home jersey blends in with the rest of the jersey and virtually becomes invisible.
Exactly Tyler, I made a Blackhawks concept where the red jersey was the same and the white jersey had the same striping, meaning the stripes on the white jerseys arm were [red, white, black, white, red]
When I take a look at the Blackhawks red jersey I see only three, if I chose to see the red as part of the jerseys rather than part of the striping. On the bottom however, I see 5 stripes going white, black, white, black, white. Same with the socks.
This is my point - in the strictest sense of "consistency" from one jersey to the next it doesn't fit. That is in the absolute strictest sense. Yet, we can all agree I think that the Blackhawks have gorgeous jerseys.
