Wednesday: More Outdoor Hockey
It's been fun watching the two Stadium Series games that have taken place over the last week. The production that went on to make Dodger Stadium some sort of fantasy of hockey on the beach put a cool spin on the sport we all love. Tonight, we will see the Rangers and Islanders hit the Yankee Stadium ice. The Rangers will wear their stunning white event uniforms, while the Islanders will sport their speculated future alternate. The Rangers' jersey is the best of all in this series. I'd love to see that as a future away uniform, but I think there's something really special about a one-off jersey that a team wears for a special game before hanging it up in the history books.

Now today's concepts:
Alan H. - Team Canada Concept
Design: This reminds me of the old Team Canada jerseys, and I wish they would have gone with something closer to this for the Olympics. I like how you included advertizements on the jerseys. I also like how the sock striping matches the shoulder striping. I'm not sure I have seen, or at least noticed, something like that on a jersey before.
Execution: I think the advertizements may be a little bit large. I don't like how the ads cut into the nameplate. Otherwise, it's a pretty well done concept.
Score: 7/10 -Keep up the good work! I hope there are some other countries coming soon.
Ben A. - AHL Stadium Series Concept
Design: Ben has decided that the Monarchs and Admirals will play a purple vs. red game out in the elements. I like the striping pattern on the sleeves of the Monarchs jersey, and I like the crest you put on the jersey. It's very different from their everyday crest and it looks good on this jersey. I wish the Admirals jersey had arm striping because I like the anchor crest along with the hem stripe.
Execution: As I said, I like the arm striping on the Monarchs jersey, but the striping should be a little bit larger and higher up the jersey. The red jersey desperately needs arm striping. Both need numbers on the sleeves. The crests are also too large.
Score: 5/10 -You are on the right track, but there are a few things that need to be added.
Dallas K. - Edmonton Oilers Alternate Concept
Design: The Oilers have never worn orange, and topping the team's 2001 alternate jersey is a touch feat. The logo is a gem. Edmonton would be nuts to not consider that as an alternate logo. I like the striping pattern. I would maybe consider a hem stripe to complement the arm striping. I have also never been a fan of the chest number, but it really adds to this particular concept.
Execution: Nothing strikes my eye as a major error. I think the grey and white detail on the shoulder yoke is a little to small to pick out the detail, but that's artist preference as opposed to an execution error.
Score: 8/10 - This jersey looks great. When are the Oilers wearing these?
David P. - Anaheim Ducks Concept
Design: David designs a set of uniforms around the "not so mighty" Ducks' current alternate uniform. The Ducks have actually been rumored to be making this type of uniform change next season, so we may see a set of jerseys like this in not too long. I personally think this look is significantly better than the Ducks current set. The orange alternate is a great looking jersey. The recolored Mighty Ducks crest is what makes that jersey. I also never realized how good the white version of their alternate would look.
Execution: The entire concept is very pixelated. Try to submitting a higher quality version because this is a very good looking set.
Score: 6/10 - This set could be an 7-8, but the pixelation is very distracting.
Dylan W. - Hershey Bears 3rd Concept
Design: I am a big fan of the Hershey Bears' redesign from a few seasons ago. This jersey has a very different look than the Bears home & away uniforms, but it would look great on the ice. I like how you took the bear from the primary logo and used it as the crest. The striping pattern is my favorite part of this concept though.
Execution: As always, Dylan gives us a very clean concept. I like how he makes all the different shades of brown work.
Score: 9/10 - COTW Nomination for sure!
Matt M. - NCAA Outdoors Concept
Design: The people have spoken, and the above concept was voted as the winner of HJC's NCAA Take It Outdoors Competition. I really dig the two-tone Michigan jersey. Who needs white? I'm not sure the cross-hatching on the crest is necessary, but it doesn't look bad by any means. The Ohio State concept is great as well. Even though the gray number is a bit hard to see, I like it as is. The striping pattern is really cool as well.
Execution: I am a little bit bothered by the difference in thickness of the yellow striping on the Michigan jersey. I also feel like the stripes should go over the detail of the template.
Score: 8/10 - It's a contest winner, so it obviously is an awesome concept.
Mike S. - AHL Stadium Series Concept
Design: I am a fan of both jerseys here. I like the shoulder yoke on both jerseys, especially how the detail is different on each. I wouldn't cut out the area around the Reebok logo, but I get why you chose to design it that way. I also like the arm striping on Albany's jersey. It looks similar to the Devils Stadium Series striping, but it still maintains the modern theme.
Execution: The name on the black jersey is a little bit pixely, but this is an otherwise good looking concept. I really wish the Devils wore something closer to this last Sunday. I also would like to see a logo on the helmets.
Score: 7/10 - Only minor mistakes on this concept. Nice work!
Stephen T. - Hershey Bears Concept
Design: Stephen gives us our second Hershey Bears concept of the day. Every detail, down to the pants striping, reminds me of the Blackhawks Winter Classic jersey. I happen to love that jersey. I really like the cream colored uniform. I can't picture a cream helmet, bit I'm not sure brown would look good with a light jersey.
Execution: The nameplate is a little pixelated, but doesn't really take away from this concept. The lack of shoulder patches is actually the biggest hit to this concept.
Score: 7.5/10 - This is another one of today's concepts that I would love to see hit the ice! I would definitely love to add the lighter jersey to my collection.
William B. - Minnestota vs. New Jersey Rivals Colors Concept
Design: In William's newest installment to his series, trades the colors of the Wild and Devils. The first thing I notice is that the Devils concepts don't look much different from their original uniforms. This look would actually be a really good look for the Devils, as it reflects their current uniforms, and is very close to their original color scheme. The Wild, on the other hand, try an entirely new color scheme. I would have never considered these colors for the Wild, but it looks great. My favorite feature is the detail in the numbers.
Execution: There isn't much wrong that I can see on this concept. I wish we could see a bigger image of the Wild's shoulder patch. It is very hard to see what it represents.
Score: 7/10 - This is a good way to end a post of many great concepts!
The quality of work of the HJC artists is amazing. Keep those concepts coming! Remember to VOTE!

So you're partly right on the Oilers never wearing orange. As far as the NHL is concerned they've never worn it. But the team was actually founded with an orange jersey, and went on to wear it for their first 2 seasons in the WHA.
On my Minnesota jersey, the shoulder patch is a version of the original North Stars logo, with different colours and a 'W' replacing the 'N', as seen here:
http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/246/Minnesota_North_Stars/1968/Primary_Logo
I'm going to give my boy McElroy a COTW on the NCAA Outdoor. Sure I would never want to have that Team up Norths jersey he made, but I certainly want that Buckeyes one. Definitely if it has a nice name on the back like the one in the concept. Even though I don't want the Michigan one, that is an excellent jersey.
I really don't like the Rangers' Stadium Series jerseys. They just look like a mess to me. And as much as it hurts to say I don't really like the Blackhawks jersey either.
I'll admit, The Rangers jerseys look better when they're being worn on the ice, but I can't get over the side panels. And the striping is dumb to me.
Just my two cents
Dylan's Bears for COTW.
William, I see that now that I look more carefully and that's a really cool idea.
Dylan, I agree with your opinion on the Blackhawks SS jersey. The only jersey that was more disappointing was the Devils. I wish both teams would have done something crazier and more experimental.
I think it's funny that the post where Matt uses my name on one of his jerseys. My concept is using 'his name' for his template. Just wanted to point that out.
Love Ryans Flames set. Think white logo works better on the home set though
I'm a huge Bears and Caps fan, and I love seeing their jerseys on the blog. Great jerseys made by both guys, and I wish they would be on the ice someday.
Also, this was my first concept on the blog! Not my best, but it was my first, so hopefully I do better next time.
Thanks for the feedback Alex!
