Wednedsay: Alternate Colors For Days
What's up HJC! It's officially summer break for me and I am excited to finally have time to make concepts again. I have been working on a series for quite some time, and I will finally get the chance to make some real progress. As we have been mentioning on HJC for the past couple weeks, tickets for the HJC Summer Meet-Up are on sale. There haven't been many tickets sold thus far, and the Meet-Up may have to be cancelled due to low attendance. If you know you will be attending the Meet-Up, make sure you buy your tickets now! Unfortunately, I will be working that weekend, so I cannot attend. However, don't miss out on this unique opportunity to hang out with all of the hockey fans that you collaborate with every day.
As always, we have a COTW vote, but this week we also have the COTY vote for April's COTW winners. The COTY-April winner will be the last concept in the COTY's first quarter vote for the new year. Make sure you have a say in which concept could potentially become the COTY!
Here is the only Jokerit Contest Entry for today:

And here are the concepts...
Phil B. - New York Islanders Alternate Concept
Design: The Islanders have only worn orange on one jersey in their short history, and it was the 2002 alternate jersey. Phil pretty much makes an orange version of the Isles' classic design. The most notable difference is the "NY" crest that the Islanders announced would appear on a uniform next season.
Score: 8/10 - This is a really good looking concept with a very classic taste to it. Given such a clean design, it honestly surprises me that New York hasn't tried this for a jersey before.
Stephen T. - Cleveland Baron Concept
Design: Stephen's first design for the day is a Cleveland Barons redesign concept. The striping on the uniforms reminds me of a complicated Red Wings jersey. I don't like that the hem striping is significantly smaller than the arm striping. I also don't think the socks match this uniform. I think socks that match the arm striping better would make this concept a lot better.
Score: 6/5/10 - The Red Wings style arms and the Blackhawks socks just creep me out. There are just too many discontinuities in the design of this concept.
Stephen T. - Edmonton Oilers Alternate Concept
Design: Stephen keeps with the theme of past HJC contests with an Oilers Steel Drop concept. The striping intrigues me, but I can't say I am a huge fan. Compared to his above concept, I appreciate that the striping is consistent throughout the entire concept. I do however think this concept would benefit from some shoulder patches and maybe some more gray somewhere.
Score: 7/10 - This concept is pretty cool looking, but it still looks plain.
Joey F. - Team Canada Concept
Design: This year, Team Canada made black a much bigger part of their color palette by wearing a black alternate jersey. Joey decides to keep the same trend by making the number and nameplate black. I think that the front of the jersey could use some black for balance, but I think that the concept is still okay as is. I don't know how I feel about red socks being paired with a white jersey. I will say that I love the shoulder patch! In honor of the patch, I will share my favorite polar bear related hockey quote: "A polar bear with glasses is part of hockey now?" - Mighty Ducks D2. (It's the only polar bear related hockey quote I know)
Score: 6/10 - I would move the nameplate to the red yoke, and make the numbers a touch larger. The sublimated maple leaves are almost impossible to see. I don't think they are necessary over the entire concept.
Mike S. - California Golden Seals Concept
Design: Mike has made an attempt to dig the California Golden Seals up from their grave. The Seals never paired their "C" crest with a yellow jersey, and the combination looks great. In fact, the Seals weren't ever "Golden" when this crest appeared on a uniform. Mike also gives Cali' a striping pattern that is very similar to that of their original uniforms.
Score: 7.5/10 - Mike does a great job of incorporating different elements of the Golden Seals' different uniforms from when they were in existence.
Jeff C. - Edmonton Oilers Alternate Concept
Design: We are now looking at Jeff's entry into the Oilers Steel Drop Competition. I think that the Steel Drop being used on the shoulder yoke is a very creative use of the logo. I don't think that the wordmark is necessary above the crest, but I like everything else on this concept. I think the white nameplate may be a stretch though.
Score: 7/10 - This concept is very creative, but I think too much was going on.
Patrick E. - Ottawa Senators Concept
Design: Patrick completely redesigns the Senators uniform. The changes start with the new shield crest as opposed to their traditional crest. The socks don't really match any design features of the jersey, so I would try to tie that into the design some more.
Score: 6.5/10 - When the red pants go, I can give this concept a 7.
Mollie G. - St. Louis Blues Concept
Design: Mollie redesigns the Blues uniforms using the rumored new logo. I like one jersey has a classic look while the other is modern. I was also very surprised how good the Blues would look sans yellow. I think the numbers on the blue jersey need a thicker outline or need to be lightened because they are pretty hard to see.
Score: 7.5/10 - Great concept! I think these could make a great uniform set in a Blues redesign.
S2dio - Carolina Hurricanes Alternate Concept
Design: In a post filled with uniforms that are alternate colors, S2dio's concept is my favorite. Ever since Nike introduced a line of gray basketball uniforms in the NCAA, I have found a liking in gray uniforms. I think that this would be a great addition to the Canes' uniform lineup. I am most happy to see a return of the hurricane warning flag.
Score: 8/10 - I wish there were more gray uniforms in the NHL. This would be a great place to start.
Stuart R. - Montreal Shamrocks Concept
Design: If the Montreal Shamrocks were to return, this would be a perfect concept to use. The uniforms are not over the top, and do a great job of incorporating the old Shamrocks logo. I like the simplicity of the creme jersey. The only thing I would change about this concept is that I would have a single green stripe across the creme sock, like the jersey stripe, as opposed to a half-half design.
Score: 8.5/10 - COTW Nom! That's all I've got.
That's all! Don't forget to vote, and if you plan on attending the HJC Meet-Up, buy your tickets before it's too late!

COTW nomination for S2dio's Canes concept.
The Barons concept is an early 90's/late 80's Penguins jersey just re-colored.
I second the cotw nomination for S2udio's Canes concept
@F.J. Skupnik: The hem stripes are a bit different. Although the Barons concept is a recoloured version of a Stars concept Stephen had in yesterday's post.
Really like S2udio's Hurricanes concept. Props for using Malhotra instead of the usual Staal brother. Love his two-way game and faceoff prowess. He's one of my favorite grinders. I'll third it for COTW.
