Saturday: Not Feeling the (Abbotsford) Heat
Hey everyone, and welcome to another Saturday HJC post! We've got a lot of great concepts today featuring some interesting alternates and several concepts for the new Adirondack Flames. I don't know about you guys, but I'm glad to see the old Atlanta Flames logo being used again. I always felt that Abbotsford should have used that logo. It was a big missed opportunity, and the "Heat" branding always felt stale and generic, like no real thought was put into it. I'm glad to see the Adirondack Flames might be getting it right, though. Let's see what some of our concepts artists have made for their jerseys!
Adirondack Flames Concept - Steve M.
What I like: the name/number font is a nice choice. The striping isn't bad. I like the yokes on bothb jerseys.
What I dislike: The inside of the white jersey shouldn't be gray. With presentation, the ID and title are really large, and the secondary logos and jerseys seem small in comparison.
Overall: A solid albeit unspectacular look for the Adirondack Flames. (8/10)
Adirondack Flames Concept - Dylan A.
What I like: This a really good, detailed concept from Dylan. Presentation and execution are phenomenal. I really like the red yoke on the white jersey, as well as the red flaming 'A' on the front of the red jersey.
What I dislike: Execution is wonderful, but I'm not blown away here. It seems like a design that's almost too obvious, but it does look good.
Overall: Great set for the new Adirondack Flames. (8.8/10)
Adirondack Flames Concept - Garrett F.
What I like: The striping pattern on the red jersey is pretty good. I like the treatment of the sleeve numbers here.
What I dislike: Color balance is a bit off here. The white jersey features black only as an accent color, but the red jersey features black prominently. I think the white jersey could use a bit more black to even things out. There are some blank areas left with the helmet templates. The name on back is oddly done. The area around the name doesn't match the color of the rest of the jersey.
Buffalo Sabres Alternate Jersey Redesign Concept - Garrett F.
What I like: The Buffalo alternate is really beyond saving, but this is a good effort.
What I dislike: It hasn't improved very much. The only thing about the current alternate that I find tolerable is the gold color; I wish there were more of it. I think a radical design requires a radical logo, so I just think the traditional Sabres logo just doesn't fit here, just like it doesn't fit on their actual alternate. I would take the laces off as well. If you go modern, go full modern.
Overall: An improvement, but a still not quite enough. (7.3/10)
Allegheny Badgers Alternate Concept - Conner L.
What I like: the Allegheny Badgers are a all-volunteer, non-profit, youth hockey organization in Delmont, PA. I think it's great that Connor is making a concept for them. The wordmark actually looks nice. I like the detail with the advertisement. I usually don't like colored sleeve cuffs, but here it works really well.
What I dislike: I wish there was some color in this other than gray and black, but I realize that's just their color scheme. I'd like to see Connor do a home/away for them, in addition to this alternate. Actually, I wouldn't mind Connor doing a dark version of this and making this jersey the away. Even youth hockey teams deserve to look good on the ice.
Overall: This is a good alternate jersey for the Badgers. (8/10)
Florida Panthers Concept - Christian L.
What I like: I'm really digging the striping on the yoke. The arm/hem striping is pretty good, too. I like the logo. It looks more like an actual Florida panther now. Christian has really stepped up his game on his presentation as well.
What I dislike: I'd like to see the panther in yellow instead of the sand color. I know that Florida panthers aren't bright yellow, but the sand color sticks out right now.
Overall: I think this would make a good alternate for the Panthers. (8.5/10)
Los Angeles Kings Alternate Concept - S2udio
What I like: The striping here is interesting. I like that S2udio really plays up the black here. There's something that looks purposefully menacing about this jersey.
What I dislike: I'm not feeling the logo treatment here. There's essentially two logos divided by striping. It just feels disconnected.
Overall: If the logo situation changed, I would love this. (8/10)
New Jersey Devils Alternate Concept - S2udio
What I like: The color shades here are perfect. The striping pattern and yoke matches the rest of New Jersey's set, which is a good thing. The dark jersey was the weaker of New Jersey's green/red jerseys of the early 80s - early 90s. The thing I didn't like about the dark jersey on that set was that extra white stripe on the sleeve. I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something about it that just doesn't work. Execution and presentation are top-notch.
What I dislike: I still prefer the Devils in only red/black/white.
Overall: Not a bad alternate if you like still like your devils in green. (8.8/10)
That's it for this week. Don't forget to vote and send in concepts for our new NHA competition. I'm really excited for this one. There should be some quality concepts, and a lot of room to get creative. Get ready for game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final! See you all next week!

Hey there! About the kings jersey, it's not two different logos, there, it's actually their chest crest, without the borders.
I thinks it's a great idea but it does come off as two logos. Since you have the crown on the shoulders I don't think its necessary but I really like the striping but I wish it went all around the jersey. Anyways it's a really cool concept!
I don't think it came off as two logos. I understood it immediately.
My Adirondack concept didn't even get a rate?
Also about the different shade around the names, it showing the nameplate.
Sorry about that Garrett. I was going to give it an an 8/10.
Also, I realize that it's showing the nameplate. Most people just put a stitching line around the name, because the nameplate is still the same color.
S2udio, I didn't see that the first time, but that does improve it for me. Very creative. I really like some of the more daring designs you're coming out with in this series.
