Monday: Red Wings in Red, Hand drawn to the 7th

I was planning on doing a video post but got a poorly timed cold. So unless you wanna see a Jets96 with huge bags under his eyes & sniffling through the whole video...yeah that video post will come but first, this post!

Jersey news...some disappointment as the All Star game will feature multiple games and 4 teams...but only 2 jerseys....boo. Oh well, Me, Jack, Dylan & Caz will unite in cheering on the Central All Stars. Hopefully the Leafs get at least one All-Star..Reimer...maybe? I hope so because I like him and Bernier sucks so give Optimus the reigns and let the Leafs finish not in dead last..or do...idk.
As for what each division will be wearing, who knows? Let's hope not the hi lighters from last year but they have sorta grown on me...not enough to keep them, but enough for me not to puke when I see them

Detroit has teased its Stadium Series jersey, but I'm gonna wait until there's more than the collar (at least to my knowledge) to look at, but stayed tuned for that, as well as the other 3 Stadium Series jerseys coming soon. It's to be unveiled tonight, however I'm writing this post in advance so Dylan N. will most likely review it tomorrow and I'll give my thoughts on it in a week or so.

Time for today's 6 concepts

Connecticut Whale Concept (By: Matt G.)

+ love what this team has done with the Whale name & Matt does a good job using all 3 of the Whalers original NHL colours, especially the grey

+ The logo choices are solid, Pucky (or whatever they're calling the blue whale) looks good on the chest stripe

+ Good font choice as well, reminds me of the Hurricanes numbers

+ Good execution

- The gear would look better blue, but I get why Matt chose green. 

- TV numbers & NWHL logo are too small

Original 6 Hand-drawn Concepts (By: Jared L.)

+ Any hand-drawn concept is good to see, it adds some variety

Boston Bruins- B spoked wheel jersey & a PJ Axelson era jersey -like the Axelson jersey, not so much the spoked jersey, though it is an interesting idea

Toronto- 70s- 1992 era jerseys with coloured side panels- my favourite of the 6 

New York Rangers- Current jerseys met the US/Slovakian olympic jersey with an angled hem stripe like Anaheim....If Nike took over in 1993, this would make sense but I still like the idea

Montreal- A vertical stripe down the centre of the jersey & arms (like a car), away jersey, I think is supposed to be one arm red with blue piping and blue arm with red piping...interesting

Detroit- Same as the Leafs but the arms have that same racing car design on the arms and the left side panels are coloured...again interesting

Chicago- Very unique lay out as the front of the jersey looks like the front of a car with two decals, yellow numbers and looking like a flames jersey

- It's hard to see these concepts. Sending them in 1 at a time or using a scanner would make these concepts a lot easier to see and make out he details.

The arms down temple looks much better than the arms straight

- The logos are getting better but doing what Jay did this week and drawing the template & then adding the logos & numbers would increase your execution points dramatically

Anaheim Ducks Concepts (By: Zeke G.)

+ Orange, white & duck feet look fantastic together

+ I really like the subtle white on the yoke, it adds colour to what would otherwise be a blank area on the jersey

+ Most of the ducks regular stuff is maintained & that's good

+ Good execution, minus a few points

- Matching socks rarely works, and there's no white on them

- Captain's C is too small & helmet logo is much too large 

- Shoulder patches? 

- Hem could use some white on the orange jersey and orange on the white jersey to add some colour to it and help it match the arms

Detroit Red Wings Stadium Series Concept (By: Dylan N.)

+ I saw this concept on Sportslogos.net forum and I agreed with Dylan in that adding back to the Red Wings look is not easy, however, he's done a good job jere

+ Simple striping but it looks good, the chest stripe is the best on the jersey

+ The black doesn't take away from the fact that it's a Red Wings jersey

+ Great execution

- The current Wing would make an excellent shoulder patch, as would the Stadium Series logo somewhere on the jersey, as that would add finishing touches

Rating: 9/10 COTW Nom from me

Pittsburgh Penguins Concepts (By: Jay S.)

+ I really like the grey, black & yellow together on the Pens jersey. It looks like the Hamilton Tiger Cats Steel City jersey from last year and since Pittsburgh is also a Steel city, it really works

+ As William mentioned yesterday, all of Jay's concepts recently have a had a really modern feel to them and that's refreshing

+ Hand drawn is really nice and allows you more freedom in design, especially that hem design 

- Vegas Gold doesn't go with the Athletic Gold, using the Athletic gold would instantly up this concept into a high 8 at least

- The grey yoke needs a yellow outline

- The sock stripes are too high up on the sock and would probably be tucked into the pants

Pittsburgh Penguins Concept (By: Jay S.)

+ Pittsburgh doing a rusty jersey is also a neat idea

+ The blacked out logo is awesome

+ Gradient numbers work in this jersey's favour

+ Again, hand drawn concepts look good 

- Shade of gold around the numbers isn't found anywhere on the jersey

- The front checkmark looks like the Capitals pre-edge jerseys

- Again sock stripes are too high

Rating: 7.5/10

Calgary Flames Concepts (By: Ryan C.)

+ I'm always a fan of rounded numbers

+ Colours are decently balanced 

+ Good execution

- This concept really misses the mark for me, especially with the away jersey, these are recoloured Florida Panthers jerseys, which themselves aren't that good, they don't add much to the Flames look and there's a lot of missed opportunities here

- Shoulder patch would really help spice up the shoulders

- TV numbers are too small
