Saturday: It's Beginning To Look Alot Like...

Things are starting to get festive around here. I decided to hang up the lights now. In my house every year it's a constant battle with my wife. She wants everything in the house to be Christmas on November 2nd. All holiday items are banned on November 1st because that's my birthday. I used to fight the decorations and say they couldn't go up until American Thanksgiving (aka The Fake Thanksgiving). In the past couple of years I have backed off a little bit and said the decorations can't go up until the day of the Toronto Santa Claus parade, which I believe is the oldest Santa Claus parade in North America (running since 1905). The parade runs this Sunday, which means the tree, the lights, and the decorations all go up on Sunday.

The winner of the COTY-October vote was Ryan C's Florida Panthers concept set!

An incredibly close vote as first and last were separated by 3 simple votes. Once again a vote that is stacked with one artist does not have that artist come out on top. Amazing! We will see Ryan's concept in a couple of months for the 4th Quarter Vote.

The winner of the COTW vote for November 1-7 was Brooks F's Columbus Blue Jackets 1967 expansion concept!

Congrats on beating me Brooks. As is customary with anyone who beats me in any type of close vote, you are now banned for life from the blog! Go on, get out, we'll wait. In all seriousness for anyone who may question the authenticity of these votes, I reserve my vote to the very last to break any ties. I easily could have voted for myself to tie the score at 9 each and send this vote into a tiebreak vote. However, my vote is meant to be the tiebreaker, so I did not vote for myself.

The new COTW nominees for the week of November 8-14 have been listed in the black poll on the side of the page. You'll need a Google account to vote. You can see the nominated concepts by clicking the link in the poll or by going to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Voting ends on Friday at 11:59pm Eastern.

What did you guys think of having polls for the competition votes instead of the Top 5 voting in the comments section? Will polls still be effective for a competition with 20 entries? Did this just work because there were only a few. Is it better to just vote for one entry rather than having to figure out your top 5? Let me know in the comments section of this post.

We're going to go without a HJC exclusive competition for a bit while we have the Grand Rapids Griffins Competition running. There were a few people that asked if they could send in more than one entry. I emailed the team and they said that there is only one entry per person allowed.

There are some very good entries in right now, but I personally don't think we've seen the winner yet. As we get closer to the November 23rd deadline I think we'll start to see some potential winners sent in. All of the entries are being posted on the Griffins Competition page.

Some of you may have had more than one concept in mind. Don't sweep away those scraps on the floor. Pick them up and send them into HJC. Perhaps you have an unfinished concept? Add a description on the bottom of the concept as to why you abandoned it and send it in to HJC. Readers love to see that kind of stuff!

I have a question about the contest. Is it just not mandatory anymore to use the template provided? The template is awful and seeing others use much better templates that show of their designs better seems somewhat unfair.

I asked the same thing Taylor. I was told the Griffins will sort it out... However i can totally see someone end up winning using a better template unfortunatly... I hope im wrong

I don't get why anyone would risk having their concept not considered by using a different template... But I agree this one really sucks :D
