Thursday: Taking a Break

Things that I hate:
1: Lists
2: Irony

Okay, so I don't actually hate lists (unless they're from Buzzfeed). But as the title alludes to, I'm taking a break from them this week. Your regularly scheduled program will return next week.
-------------
Pretty simple week when it comes to voting. Our weekly Concept of the Week vote, which if it wasn't weekly, it wouldn't be concept of the week - and we also have the white jersey competition vote. A lot to choose from, so go choose some. Also, take note that the voting ends at 10:59 PM EST tomorrow, just like the deadline for entering the competition.
COTW Feb 7-13 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
White Jersey Comp Top 5 vote (ends Friday @ 10:59pm Eastern)
-------------
Brooks F. - Ontario Reign
Colors: Dark blue, orange, and gray is an underused color scheme.
Design: The design is definitely unique. The template itself is pretty good for a modern design. I'm not a huge fan of the gradients, though they could work for an AHL or ECHL team like the Reign. They do help balance the colors on the white jersey too.
Logos: Much better than what they currently use.
Execution: The numbers look a bit too big, and the name a bit small. Although, the name could possibly just look small because the numbers are too big.
Overall: 8/10

Brooks F. - Columbus Blue Jackets
Colors: Even though this is meant to be a 90s expansion concept, I like the colors in general, especially the lighter shade of blue added.
Design: Despite the simple looking pattern, it also doesn't bear obvious resemblance to anything I've seen before. The thin green stripes work here because of how much they still stand out. Those pants are quite interesting too...not sure if they'd look good but they definitely fit the 90s theme.
Logo: Not the best from a design standpoint, but the best for this context. Good choice.
Execution: The numbers look a bit close to the name.
Nitpicking: Technically...the jersey would not be an Edge jersey. Then again, that's why this comment is in the nitpicking category.
Overall: This wouldn't be a bad starting point for a new set of CBJ jerseys (9/10) and my COTW nomination!

BRX - Tampa Bay Lightning
Colors: Good color scheme, but that black barely stands out, especially on the logo of the home jersey. I actually almost like it there because of the emphasis on the bolt itself, but it doesn't work anywhere else.
Design: I think it's interesting how all of these jerseys just seem to slightly modify the current design. The home/away bear the most resemblance, and yet they still look more unique than their current set. Not a fan of the numbers on the front, and the chest stripes should continue to the back. I do I like the idea, but...
Consistency: I think it would look better to have the logos on the chest stripe in the same style. One of them is the color of the jersey with an outline, the other is the color of the stripe with a break in the stripe. They're both fine but I'd pick one and go with it.
Execution: The vertical stitching should stop at the hem stripes.
Overall: 7.5/10

Chris W. - ETSU Buccaneers
Colors: Surprisingly, there isn't much white/yellow blending together. The only case I see any of that is on the home numbers. Great job there. Utilizing yellow for the alternate was also the right move.
Design: I always think it's cool when the jerseys have the exact same striping patterns, no color changes or anything. Of course the base color changes, but the stripes don't at all. Nice looking pattern too, and executed well enough to not just look like a regular old 3 stripes pattern.
Logos: Good logo choice. I actually kind of like the wordmark over the alternate jersey's shield, that usually doesn't work out.
Execution: The numbers are too big, shrink those down a little.
Overall: 8.5/10

Jay S. - Oklahoma City Thunder
Colors: I like the unique color palette of OKC, but there's some blending on this concept. It's most present (actually I think only present) on the home jersey's striping, with the yellow and white - two common culprits.
Design: Simple striping patten that matches their actual designs fairly well, with a little bit of a twist on it.
Execution: Vertical stitching should stop at the hem striping, and the logo looks way too big.
Equipment: I think the dark blue equipment would look best throughout the entire jersey set, as opposed to light blue for the light blue jersey.
Overall: 7.5/10

Ryan C. - Tampa Bay Lightning
Colors: Bringing silver back gives them a more unique color scheme, and I like the brighter shade of blue you used
Design: Very simple, but it looks good.
Logos: I'm personally not a huge fan of that logo, but I don't think it's terrible and I think it works with this color scheme.
Execution: I think the numbers should be a tad bigger, but maybe that's just me.
Overall: Very simple, but it looks good.

Zee Emm Zack M. - SKA St. Petersburg
Design: Not a bad idea, and not an incredibly common pattern. Don't like the piping though, that usually doesn't work.
Colors: Not a bad color scheme but there's some blending, mainly when there are small amounts of red and blue together. (TV numbers on blue jersey)
Execution: A lot of things to work on here. The number is way too small, and the name could use a bit of a shrinking. The logo is also too big, which cramps the captain's patch and makes it too small. The hem stripes are all different widths too, I'd fix that up to be a uniform width to match the arm stripes (or at least have corresponding stripes to be the same size). Fortunately this doesn't destroy how the concept comes off, though.
Overall: Good idea, but the execution could use some touch ups.

And that's all for today. I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you guys again next week.

If Brooks's Columbus concept didn't have the pants stripes I would nominate it. Those pants stripes, combined with the sock and hem striping is just too much. This concept is the first time I haven't hated the use of "Stinger." I love everything else.
