Tuesday: Straight To It!

Afternoon folks! Steven M here. Sorry to say that I don't have anything too interesting to say about hockey jersey news around the world. Instead, I would just like to remind everybody that we currently have the white jersey competition going on. I find this to be a unique competition in that instead of being constrained by a team or theme (Winter Classic, World Cup of Hockey), you have to create a white jersey that is highly appealing. Also, don't forget to vote for COTW and COTW for January. We have some great choices and it would be a shame to have a small turnout of votes.

And now for the main concepts!

Dylan Tusinski- Atlanta Thrashers

Positives: Your concept looks pretty clean so good job on that. It is nice to see that you took a more conservative approach to the thrashers jersey, while keeping the elements of previous jerseys. Also, the multi-colored collar works well with all of the jerseys.
Negatives: While your design is more simplistic than most concepts, that seems to have caused some problems. You should have a yoke on the jersey. It doesn't have to be the traditional round one either. I say this because it has caused your name on the back of the jersey to go into the yoke area itself. Your numbers are too large as well on the back of the jerseys.
Overall: 6/10

Dyan Tusinski- Colorado Avalanche

 Positives: The mixture the old alternate with the new alternate looks pretty good. The design is simple and effective. You also added a yoke to correct the back name issue you had with your Thrashers concept.
Negatives: The back numbers are still too big. Same with the shoulder patches. Also, your diagonal text is not in a line. This has made the front of your jersey look a mess.
Overall: 5/10

Lucas Daitchman- Toronto Maple Leafs (Jersey and Logos)

 Positives: For the jersey,it is a very classic design. the simple round collar with the simple wide stripe on the hem and on the sleeves gives me a Canadiens feel to it, but overall it works. As for the Logos, the simplicity of both the main crest and the centennial patch fits the simplistic style of the jersey.
Negatives: The only negative I have for the jersey is that it's a little rough and some more clarity in your lines would be nice. As for the logos, That new crest logo looks awkwardly large with very short points, contrary to most maple leaves, But it is still able to be seen as a maple leaf. Also, the centennial logo should emphasize the "100" more. Make that the focal point of the patch, not the hockey rink-like shape with a capital T in the middle.
Overall: 7/10

Jimmy Teed- Bakersfield Condors

Positives:  The prominence of orange on the white jersey was a nice choice when using the design.
Negatives: This isn't too far off of the current set of the condors design wise. the only difference is that, besides changing the colors around, you got rid of the yoke on the dark jersey and added a contrasting color underneath the hem stripe. Getting past that, the dark jersey doesn't have enough of a light-dark balance. That orange is just too overpowering on the eyes with the small amount of blue used. Also, try to make your concept look smoother. not rough like it is now.
Overall: 6.5/10

Lucas Daitchman- Colorado Avalanche

 Positives: What stands out about this jersey right away is the front of the yoke on the jersey to give it a snow-capped mountain look, similar to the angled design they used during the pre-edge years. The nice part about it though is that it doesn't take over the jersey itself. the use of the traditional stripping was a good idea to prevent the design from looking too busy.
Negatives: Not really a negative, but I'm not sure how well that stitching on the front of the jersey with jersey and onto the sleeves would work functionally. It seems like it could possibly be constricting to a point, but I'm not an expert on the stitching of a hockey jersey.
 Overall: 8/10 COTW NOMINEE 

                                                         Jonathan Hicks- Moncton Wildcats

Positives: The idea you had was a good idea.
Negatives: The collar and laces need cleaned up badly. your stripes aren't even all the way across. you have no numbers of the jersey. All of these are big mistakes.
Overall: 4/10

Jonathan Hicks- Shawinigan Cataractes

 Positives: The striping on the arms is interesting.
Negatives: Same mistakes as I stated above with your Moncton concept. Fix the collar, the stripes, and add numbers.
Overall: 4/10
