Tuesday: Bring On the Concepts!

Hi everybody. Not feeling so well today so instead of spending time on a large introduction I'd like to spend my energy on the concepts. Fair deal? Cool.

Before I get to the concepts though I have to send out a few announcements:
  • Voting for the Chicago Express Competition is going on right now
  • COTW voting as usual!
  • We have a poll on best Winter Classic Jersey
  • And finally, We have a poll to determine interest in the Pairs Competition

COTW Feb 21-27 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Chicago Express Top 3 vote (ends Friday @ 10:59pm Eastern)
Winter Classic Best Jersey Vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Oh one more thing! don't forget that the jerseys for the World Cup of Hockey uniforms are being revealed tomorrow!
Let's do this!
Lucas Daitchman- Vancouver Canucks
Positives: The combination of the classic "Stick in Rink" logo with the old Black-Red-Yellow-White color scheme with the diagonal arm striping from the pre-Edge uniforms works out really well together on this uniform. Also, the backdrop on the back numbers gives it a retro feel to it, which looks good on this jersey set.
Negatives: While the backdrop on the back numbers was a nice touch it would be nice to see that on all of the numbers instead of just the back of the jersey. Also, the sleeve numbers don't line up equally on both sides and one looks bigger than the other.
Overall: 7.5/10
Lucas Daitchman- Winnipeg Jets Third
Positives:  The Chevron design of the jersey works with the brand in overall look and it gives this jersey a throwback-esque feel with the white end-to-end sleeve yoke. Also, thanks for giving us a top view of the sleeves.
Negatives: The white on the jersey is a little overpowering on this jersey. maybe if the hem was a bit smaller or wasn't colored white at the bottom then it would look fine but the white is just overpowering for what should be a dark jersey.
Overall: 7.5/10
Jared Lammi- All Star Game 2017
Positives: The concept of the jersey itself is a very good one by using the elements of the jerseys but not copying them.
Negatives: This is a very rough concept. To start, you have no ID on your concept. Also, the presentation of the concept is so small and the file is so simple that you can't make out any of the small details of the jersey. What you can make out though is that nothing on this lines up properly on the sleeves, the hem stripe isn't set perfect on the front or back, and the only thing you have correct is the name and number on the back as well as the logo. If this is your first time doing a concept then I must tell you to keep practicing and look at the tutorials on the website to help you improve or don't be afraid to email somebody from the website for help.
Overall: 3.5/10
Jared Lammi- All Star Game 2017 (2)
Positives: This concept is slightly more clear than your other concept.
Negatives: Same issues as the one above.
Overall: 3.5/10
Taylor Roy- Slovakia (world junior championships)

Positives: Your design is very clean and effective for a national hockey team. That phantom blue stripe on the blue jersey is a nice touch as well.
Negatives: I know that usually during the junior championships the patch of the tournament goes on the jersey itself, usually on either side of the chest. Your nameplate looks like it's in the yoke itself, making your numbers look too big.
Overall: 7.5/10
Ben Shaffer- Toronto Maple Leafs
Positives: After having to do five Maple Leaf concepts in one post (I'm looking at you Ryan) I can already tell that this one is based off of the 1930-34 Jersey, Also the winter classic jersey they wore at the Big House against Detroit. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. This is a really nice jersey you've put together and by eliminating the second hem stripe and adding those two stripes near the yoke, you've created a jersey that pays a nod to the past while creating a whole new jersey. The shoulder patch is also a nice touch.
Negatives: The back numbers look a little small.
Overall: 8.5/10 COTW NOMINEE
Roman Sasin- Slovan Bratislava (KHL)
Positives: If the "Robopen" logo of the 90's and the capitals of today had a baby, this is what it would look like in logo form. As for the concept, It's nice to see that you gave them a much more simple design because their current uniform set is awful.
Negatives: The spacing between your numbers and nameplate is too large. Also, bring the captain's "C" down slightly and maybe shrink the logo slightly on the dark jersey.
Overall: 7.25/10
Well everybody what did you think? Unfortunately that's all I have this week so tune in for more tomorrow and I'll see you all next week!

Ben s. for COTW, love the helmet

The helmet is my favorite part of Ben's concept. Way too many stripes for my liking, though.

Yes the nameplate is in the yoke because that's how that yoke works.

I'm pretty sure on Taylor's concept the nameplate is on the yoke, like Carolina's jersey... It looks as it should to me. Taylor for COTW
