Sunday: Not Thursday

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Thurs- wait, what?

Yep, this is Brendan/Bpoe/whatever you know me by, covering for Steven today as he is having some technical difficulties right now.

I would write a longer intro, but I have something planned for Thursday, but not enough time to write it today, so just expect something on Thursday this week!

-------------------------

Today, we have a bit more going on than in recent weeks, with the COTW vote, COTW-February vote, and the Pairs Competition vote. Don't feel quite as pressed for time as you do on Thursdays, but don't hesitate to get your votes in, either.

COTW-February vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
COTW March 3-9 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
Pairs Comp 2017 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)

-------------------------

Anthony C. - Buffalo Sabres
+Adding gray to their blue and yellow scheme is easily the worst part of their current branding, so great job to remove that.
+A traditional design is also the way the Sabres should go, so good choice there as well.
-Lose the phantom yoke on the home jersey.
+The shoulders stripes on the road look good, though.
+A yellow alternate would look good for Buffalo...if done right...at least.
-I think more blue would help that one though. That much yellow might be a bit too much.
-The white also blends in a bit with the yellow on that jersey especially.
-Hem stripes should stop at the stitching.
Overall: 7/10

John E. - Ottawa Senators
+If the Sens add gold and the laurel pattern back to their uniforms, they'd get a whole lot more unique.
+Good color balance overall.
-I think the black/red jersey would look better if it wasn't half/half but that's just me.
-The design of the primary jerseys are incredibly busy. The laurel pattern would be much better if it was sublimated.
-This also makes the numbers very hard to read from a distance.
+The red jersey on the other hand looks beautiful. It's a nice callback to their old jerseys, and the red base makes it something new as well.
Overall: 7.5/10

Lucas D. - Nashville Predators
+Yellow is now the Preds' color, so emphasizing it even more is the way to go.
+The blue pants on the white jersey keeps the color balance pretty good, despite the primarily yellow (aside from white) road jersey.
-The white jersey could use a little more blue though.
+Keeping the design inspired by their current look is also a nice move, and adds some brand recognition.
-In this case I'm not sure if I'd prefer the upper arm design. May become a little too similar to the Penguins since they have a similar color scheme.
Overall: 8.5/10 and my COTW nomination

Mike F. - Australia
+These colors look great, and you used them well.
+I can really dig not having a white jersey. I think color on color should become more prominent.
+The primary set, as often does with Mike's concepts, looks like it could definitely be their jerseys in the game.
+The alternate has a nice, traditional vibe to it.
-Not very creative and very basic, though.
+The vintage one also looks nice and vintage.
+I like that you've strayed from vintage white on these. Vintage white doesn't often look good.
-Some more consistency on that vintage jersey may look a bit better, though.
Overall: 8/10

Mike F. - China
+Red and yellow/gold could be a great color scheme to work with, and it looks pretty good here sometimes.
-A bit disappointed that you added black, though, since there's really no need, and that you didn't use a yellow road jersey like you did for Australia.
+All things considered, the black isn't too bad, and it does look, again, like something from the game.
+/-That yellow alt is really bright...I'm not sure if I like or hate it.
+That vintage looks like something out of the 70s/80s...it looks great but I'm not sure if you were going for something a little more vintage or not.
-Kinda reminds me of a Soviet Union-type jersey, though.
Overall: 8/10

Ryan C. - Stockton Heat
+Man, this one looks like something that Calgary would look great in.
+This is a good way to have red, black, and yellow all at the same time.
-Still think it would work better without the black, but maybe having black in the AHL team's identity can separate them from Calgary (assuming that Calgary ever drops the black).
-The yellow and white on the red jersey's stripes blend together a bit, too.
-I'm usually a fan of single color numbers, but it just doesn't work here, especially on the white jersey.
+On Thursday's post, I kinda went in on you for your shoulder yoke usage, but you do it really well here. The red jersey doesn't need one at all, and adding one would make it too busy. On the other hand, the one on the white jersey really helps balance the colors. Good choices.
-The white's yoke could use an outline, though.
Overall: 8.5/10

-------------------------

And that's all for today! I hope you guys enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you all nex- I mean, this Thursday.

COTW to John. Away jersey is great, but the home jersey and numbers are doing it for me. Still a great concept.

The upper arm design in my Preds concept is from the teeth in the logo.

In all seriousness, though, I love that China set. Easily my favorite of the bunch.
