Sunday: A New (Jersey) Era Begins!
Afternoon everybody. Steve here. As some of you have already seen (unless you live in a place with no communication to the outside world) the NHL finally released the Adidas uniforms. I'm not going to give my piece on them here because I'll be stating that on the special edition HJC podcast.
Moving on, The HJC Open is underway and hopefully a lot of you guys took our advice to not do concepts at the last minute. Once again, bad idea to wait. Also, don't forget about COTW voting.
Onto the Concept!
Negatives: Other than the fact that it's still based off of a Leafs' jersey design (albeit a specialty jersey) I feel that you could have gone farther with this design ot make it a little more distinctive.
Overall: 8.5/10
Negatives: The shoulder logos being on one side looks really strange. I could understand if it was for a specialty patch on the other side but IIHF always puts them on the chest. Also, that Canada jersey design reminds me a lot of what the USSR use to wear and I'm not sure that would go over well with the country as a whole.
Overall: 8/10
Negatives: Compared to what Hong Kong wears now this is a downgrade. Why didn't you use the hibiscus on the front and make it more modern looking like Macau? All I'm saying is that it looks like you spent so much time on the one jersey that you neglected the other.
Overall: 6.75/10
Negatives: I do have one issue with this though. The sleeve numbers on the dark jersey look slightly high.
Overall: 9/10
Negatives: none.
Overall: 10/10 COTW NOMINEE!
Negatives: My only negative is the phantom yoke on the dark jersey. Phantom yokes can work in some case but it doesn't here.
Overall: 8.5/10
Negatives: The white jersey seems really bare when you compare it to the dark jersey. The waist striping could be a little bit bigger as well.
Overall: 8.5/10
Negatives: The whole top two jerseys are negatives. I really don't need to say more. I will say that it was a good idea but just the reality of it is terrible.
Overall: 7.5/10
Ok Folks that's everything. Have a good rest of the week and be on the look out for out special podcast!

Onto the Concept!
COTW June 16-22 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
HJC Open Round Robin vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
Anthony C- Mississauga Steelheads
Positives: Big improvement from the Steelheads current jersey. While it does look like you are taking a queue from the Leafs' Centennial jersey design, you do improve on the design by adding the touch of silver and the change of color at the bottom of the hem.Negatives: Other than the fact that it's still based off of a Leafs' jersey design (albeit a specialty jersey) I feel that you could have gone farther with this design ot make it a little more distinctive.
Overall: 8.5/10
Anthony C- USA vs Canada Outdoor Game
Positives: I can tell you right away you've improved on what team USA will wear in Buffalo next year. It's nice to see that you kept the striping of the bills jersey but used it for both the sleeves and hem to give it a classic look with the arched "USA". As for Canada, this is really nice and clean with a good balance of red and white.Negatives: The shoulder logos being on one side looks really strange. I could understand if it was for a specialty patch on the other side but IIHF always puts them on the chest. Also, that Canada jersey design reminds me a lot of what the USSR use to wear and I'm not sure that would go over well with the country as a whole.
Overall: 8/10
FC M- Hong Kong vs Macau
Positives: Out of the two jersey you've made here, I'd say that the Macau jersey turned out the best. From what I've seen, Macau wears the Canadiens' jersey template so this is a MAJOR improvement over what they have now. The phantom yoke striping works well with the numbers as well. As for the Hong Kong jersey, the arm striping is what the jersey has going for it.Negatives: Compared to what Hong Kong wears now this is a downgrade. Why didn't you use the hibiscus on the front and make it more modern looking like Macau? All I'm saying is that it looks like you spent so much time on the one jersey that you neglected the other.
Overall: 6.75/10
Jordan R- Chonjin Steelers
Positives: So you decided to make a hockey league in one of the poorest countries on Earth? Well I give you credit for doing it. The logo is killer and the color choices you made on the jersey look great. How you did this concept gives me promise for the rest of them.Negatives: I do have one issue with this though. The sleeve numbers on the dark jersey look slightly high.
Overall: 9/10
Jordan R- Hamhung Sharks
Positives: Once again, love the logo and color choices here Jordan. Also, the numbers tie really well together with the logo and you really pull off that two-tone numbering. Also, I like that you kept part of the sleeves dark on the white jersey to give them more contrast to the jersey.Negatives: none.
Overall: 10/10 COTW NOMINEE!
Noah B- Minnesota Twins
Positives: I'll be honest, you've done a really good job with the city mashups Noah and this one adds to that. The use of gold with the "TC interlocking" logo on the front looks beautiful on the jerseys with the simple two color stripes.Negatives: My only negative is the phantom yoke on the dark jersey. Phantom yokes can work in some case but it doesn't here.
Overall: 8.5/10
Noah B- Montreal Expos
Positives: God Bless the Expos. May their identity rest in peace and be brought back when the time is right. As for this mashup, I like that you went with the 70's era instead of trying to do the modern style. The baby blue really works on both jersey and I think you did a great job with it. The three stripes across the chest look beautiful as well.Negatives: The white jersey seems really bare when you compare it to the dark jersey. The waist striping could be a little bit bigger as well.
Overall: 8.5/10
Steve G- Anaheim Ducks
Positives: Steve I'm going to start with the top concept because the only thing that's redeemful on that is the Mighty ducks logo and the green. As for the bottom set, Love the use of orange for the ends with the web D as the logo and the collar and no phantom yoke. Also, the striping from the early years of the edge jersey look great as well.Negatives: The whole top two jerseys are negatives. I really don't need to say more. I will say that it was a good idea but just the reality of it is terrible.
Overall: 7.5/10

Well, I'm trying to use something else instead of the standard thing, @Steven. I do agree however that I should add the hibiscus instead of the dragon for Hong Kong.
10/10 for both of @Jordan's jersey concepts. Kim Jong-un must be very proud of you son.
Noah B's Expos Concept for COTW
Love the KHL series by JR but especially the Sharks. Ill second the COTW nomination.
That Sharks concept is FIRE. Easy COTW nominee.
Jordan's Sharks concept is outstanding. It's creative, and took a lot of effort, since he made his own template and logos. I'll fourth if for COTW.
On another note, I don't agree with your assessment of Steven G.'s Ducks concept. I know that you might not want to see it on ice, but I don't think it's true to say that "the whole top two jerseys are negatives." Would you give it a 0 on 10? The colour scheme is creative and is balanced perfectly, and the striping compliments the logo well. I'd give it a higher grade, but hey, an opinion's an opinion.
