Sunday: Second Place is Not That Bad

Hi everybody. Welcome back to HJC. We've got a good bunch of concepts in today so I'm going to keep my intro as short as possible.

For those of you that listened to the most recent podcast, I ended up coming in second behind Jet's friend on our twisted version of The Price Is Right (we did not actually win any prizes by the way) and I must say that it's ok to be second place sometimes. This is a perfect example of today's concepts, which feature concepts for the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. I'll move on with that later on down in the post.

Before we get to the good stuff, I want to remind everybody to go and vote for week 3 of the Season. After two weeks it's still anybody's chance and we have some good match ups this week to affect our standings even further. Also, the Jersey Casual designs have six new designs known as the "Turn Back Twenty" series as well as six more designs based on the 90's original six's alternates coming out soon and we also have those awesome HJC stickers! Finally, don't forget to vote for out COTW.

COTW Vote Feb 9- 15 (ends Friday @ Noon Et)
The Season Week 3 Vote (ends Friday @ Noon Et)

Alright, let's get to it!

Danny R- Drayton Valley Thunder
Positives: Right now Drayton wears the Dallas Stars current jerseys on the edge template and I think it works out great for them, but I think Danny did a good job of a slight improvement on the green jersey with the added white extended cuffs and making the black stripe thicker on the jersey with the white accent striping. It's a nice differentiation from the Stars current jersey.
Negatives: I don't see a difference in the white jersey from what the Stars currently use or even what the Thunder use other than swapping the 20th anniversary logo (which is the Anaheim Ducks logo with there current logo swapped in) with the regular logo. Be more creative with it even with the Adidas template you're using.

Overall: 6/10

Jeff T- New England Patriots (Referee Jersey)
Positives: First off Jeff, I'm not going to dock you for not putting your name because of the AK logo on there but for the future please just add Jeff on there somewhere. Getting back to the jersey, I laughed for a good five minutes at this concept when I saw it because you did what everybody thinks about the NFL referees: They're told to work in the Patriots favor and no, I'm not biased simply being from Pittsburgh. In all seriousness though, this would be an awesome idea for the NHL referees to do for the Stadium series game or other outdoor games. It would just be another fun little gimmick.
Negatives: My negatives are: you didn't put the Patriots logo square on the front, the look for the socks and pants mimicking actual pants would just be cooler with CCM propacs, and get rid of the Super Bowl logo because that was going on all season.
Overall: 8.5/10

Jeff T- New England Patriots
Positives: Out of the three jersey, I'd say that the best of them would be the throwback alternate jersey with it's traditional striping and the roundel logo. As for the other two jersey, What's nice is that you do two different designs on the arms but keep the side striping on the jerseys consistent and that really works with both of these so good job.
Negatives: Coming back to my second place comments, Jeff does the best job he can trying to transfer the Patriots identity over from the football jersey and for the most part it works with the Patriots identity. But, like Tom Brady's last minute hail mary, it looks like you just winged it.That tiny little red stripe on the main jerseys won't be seen from no farther than four feet away and that silver sticks out like a sore thumb on the arms.
Overall: 7.25/10

Jeff T- Philadelphia Eagles

Positives: I'm combining the two photos for this one due to the small differences in the pans of the retro jersey. Starting off with the main jersey, the arm striping on these works much better than what you did with the patriot jersey and this is something I could see done by the Flyers as a warmup type jersey to honor the recent championship. The color balance on the arms work great and the simple stripe on the hem of the jersey is just enough on the jersey to make if feel complete. As for the Retro Alternate, I really like the double white stripe going on both the shoulders and the arms of the jersey as well as the extended cuff idea. Out of the two pant designs, I would say that the green works the best out of the two.
Negatives: I really don't have too many negatives on the primary jerseys other than the shoulder logos and TV numbers being reversed. I understand it's to look like the football jersey but it would be more cohesive with it flipped for hockey. As for the retro, take out that silver stripe on the cuff and make it green or just get rid of it. It's so random on the jersey that it makes no sense at all. Also, It wouldn't hurt to maybe take the double white stripe design and put it on the hem of the jersey. Finally, Put the classic Eagles logo on the front of the jersey as it would go with the design much better.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE

Ok everybody that's all I got. I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did. Have a good week and I'll see you guys this time next week!
