Wednesday: Beck at it Again
Hello guys and welcome to another REGULAR Wednesday post here at HJC. Phil Beck here with you once again, as I get to show off something somewhat design related, and something more hockey related. It was appropriate that after an overall sub-par trade deadline, these showed up in Brooklyn Monday night.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">BREAKING NEWS: New York Islanders fans have officially acquired two "Snow Must Go" Billboards in exchange for cash. <a href="https://t.co/kgGcswhfZh">pic.twitter.com/kgGcswhfZh</a></p>— James "Billboard" Duffy (@TwoTurtleDuffs) <a href="https://twitter.com/TwoTurtleDuffs/status/968275884770758656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 27, 2018</a></blockquote>

Yeah. It's that bad.
The billboards are located at 6th and Flatbush, able to be best seen travelling northwest on Flatbush Avenue as you drive or walk a block and a half further to Barclays Center, and Atlantic Ave & Classon Ave, about a mile east of Barclays Center, with the sign facing east. I am not responsible for them. However I am in full agreement with them. It's time to clean house on Long Island.
THE SEASON: This weekend, Minnesota clinched a playoff spot with a close win over Ottawa, 19-15. This week, Brazil and Colorado are an interesting matchup I'd keep an eye on. Aurora, Orlando and Vancouver can clinch a playoff spot with a win this week. Unfortunately the two women's teams have been eliminated from playoff contention. This is a very pivotal week so make the results yourself.
REMINDERS:
ON TO THE CONCEPTS!
Adam G: Chicago Blackhawks Concept
This is a clever idea that embodies the logo in a simple manner, more simple than repeating the feathers onto the body of the jersey. Each of the four stripes represent one of the feathers, as the base color of each of the feathers has its own separate stripe. The white trim on the cuffs, collar and hem each help ensure the numbers do not sit awkwardly on the jersey among the stripes. Execution note: The logo isn't properly outlined, as there are loose pixels there instead of a true outline. Otherwise a great concept.
Rating: 89%
Lucas D: Identity Swap Concept - Philadelphia + Calgary
I think a majority of us were disappointed when the Flames stayed with their awful Reebok designs minus the piping. I get the idea behind the swap, because both logos have pieces flying off on the left side, wings on the P and flames on the C. The striping on the side panels is out of proportion with the other side. I'm not feeling this idea just because of how lousy the Flames' existing design is, and the adaptation isn't much better.
Rating: 60%
Noah B: Växjö Lakers Concept
A crazy design that is combined with a fantastic color scheme, and I'm not speaking out of bias, mainly because I hate the baseball and basketball versions of blue and orange in New York. The crazy design is a hem stripe that works well with the arms (with numbers placed well inside them), merged with a side panel only on one side of the jersey, merged with a quarter of a chest stripe. Kind of out there but its cool. The away jersey is very blue heavy despite the orange dominating the logo and numbers. The color balance is weird on that jersey only though. Red gloves?
Rating: 78%
The WINNER of my Concept of the Week nomination is:
Another Wednesday in the books. Sorry for the late post. If you are upset, direct your claims, questions, complaints, comments and/or concerns to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, P.O. Box 6100, Hauppauge, NY 11788, and tell them to fix their potholes. Stay safe on the road everyone, it's Pothole Season! See you next week.
