Tuesday: January 14th

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Hope you're enjoying it! Mine's busy right now with work soon and on and off the phone with insurance people, so unfortunately, today's post has to be a bit quicker, and shorter than my normal posts. But, if you're a fan of longer posts, don't worry, I've got tomorrow's post since we don't have our new Wednesday writer picked yet. So you'll get your fill!

I'm sure you've read on the site, or perhaps the HJC Twitter, that the votes this week, and the next few weeks, are very important, as we're getting very close to naming the 2013 Concept of the Year! So if you're going to vote, which you are, FOR SURE do it these next few weeks!

4th Quarter Vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Jan 6-12 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
AHL Stadium Series Entries (Due Friday, January 17, 2014 @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Speaking of the AHL Stadium Series, we do have one entry today.

Brady S.

And now onto our normal daily concepts!

LA Stadium Series Concept - Ricky M.
Ricky has a vision for the LA Stadium game taking place in a few weeks. The Ducks jersey would be an improvement over their current Stadium jersey if not for the bronze underarms. And maybe ditch the oval and just use the old Mighty Ducks logo on its own. As for the Kings, I feel that the purple on the black jersey is hard to see without any white or silver trim to separate it. I like the return of the logo though. I think the purple needs to be lighter to be seen. I don't like the mismatching socks with the Kings jerseys. I'm not a huge fan of both jerseys having the same striping pattern as well. The helmets are questionable as well. It looks better on the Ducks here but I'm still not a huge fan.

Rating: 6.5/10

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (KHL) Concept - Robb C.
I think this is a first on the blog, a KHL concept using the IceBorn template. I like the slanted arm stripes. I'm confused though, are they supposed to come to a point on the outside of the arm, or slant continuously upward like on the Stadium Series jerseys? I ask because the numbers are slanted but not correctly. On the back of the jerseys the numbers should be going up towards the yoke, not away, otherwise they come to some sort of unrealistic point. I like the white jersey's hem but not so much on the red jersey, make it black. The KHL collar is a nice touch, the front number and "C" seem way too small. I'd shrink the logo down so it's between the jersey's stitching. Keep the IceBorn branding on the jersey somewhere as well.

Rating: 7/10

New York Rangers Concept - Stephen T.
Stephen bases a Rangers set on their new Stadium Series jerseys. I like the change of template as their Stadium jerseys look like a mess to me. This template might be considered "overused" but it looks decent here. Even the arm striping looks better here when it's not slanted. I'd like to see a hem stripe as well. I'd rather see "RANGERS" on the Blue jersey too, perhaps with red letters and numbers. The white and gray touch making the numbers and letters not easily legible.

Execution error, the TV numbers are backwards. As is, the back reads "18" but the arms read "81"

Rating: 7/10

Calgary Flames Third Jersey - TG
TG makes some changes to the Flames' new third jersey. He keeps the pointy yoke and applies the spikes to the back of it as well. I'm a fan of the stripes in the yoke as well. I'm not a huge fan of the swoopy stripes. I feel like they wouldn't translate well onto a real jersey. I feel if they were straight it would look really good. The white and yellow in the number trim makes it hard to see as well.

Rating: 7/10

Calgary Flames Third Jersey Concept - Avi S.
I always like seeing Avi's concepts, and it's nice to be seeing his name around these parts. He's got two concepts today so let's start with his Calgary Flames third jersey. Pretty similar to their new jersey. The only real difference I can see is the arm stripes now go all the way around the arm and the black is thicker as well as all the striping matching.

Rating: 7/10 - Not as much of a concept as it is a "tweak" but the tweaks made improve the jersey.

Boston Bruins Third Jersey Concept - Avi S.
Avi's second third jersey today puts the Bruins in yellow, a move I'm in favor of. This jersey is essentially their 2010 Winter Classic jersey but with the modern yoke style and logo as well as replacing brown with black. The socks also match the jersey as opposed to being their own thing.

Rating: 8/10 - Again, more of a tweak and modernization but it just looks so good. I hope the actual Bruins make a move like this soon.

Vancouver Giants Concept - Stephen T.
I'm actually a fan of the team's current sweaters but this classic look works so well, so if the team went from their current threads to these, I wouldn't care too much. There's not too much here other than a true and tested striping pattern. These jerseys suffer from LA Kings disease. One jersey has a hem stripe and the other doesn't. I'd add the hem stripe to the black jersey and it would make it feel more complete.

Rating: 8/10

Delaware Pioneers Concept - Jordan R.
Jordan's jerseys he proposed for the Delaware Pioneers a few weeks back. I like the template, it's a more realistic template for minor teams, or amateur teams who aren't going to spring for the Reebok or Nike jerseys that most templates represent. It seems a bit long though and it makes the hem stripe seem very very far down on the jersey, but the jerseys here are all really good looking.

The name and the logo have a old timey feel to it, so why make it all swoopy and modern like a lot of newer teams try. The two jerseyes on the left are really good. I like the colored cuffs. The jerseys on the right are alright as well. I prefer the gray one as an alternate. But I would love to see a white version of the left jerseys and just use those three. (Red, Blue, White)

Rating: 8.5/10

Hamilton Steelheads 3rd (TV Show - PowerPlay) - Will S.
I don't know much about the show Power Play. All I know is they played two episodes here in the states and it got yanked off the air since it was the lowest rated primetime show ever on any network. I wouldn't mind giving it a shot though. In my research on the show, I came across Will's blog where he explains how he made the jersey, so click on this to go check that out.

I like the logo here better than the one on the jerseys in the show. It reminds me of the Hellfish from the Simpsons. Like I said the last time I got a homemade concept on the blog, I think it's so neat when people put in the time and effort to make a jersey. I'd love to be able to do that!

Great work here Will!

I don't know how to rate this, but I want to give it a COTW nom if that's cool with you Ryan!

Well that's it for today, I realize that I said "short and quick post" originally but i got into it and lost myself in the post. So, oh well. Let me know what you guys think of today's concepts in the comments below!

Hey DBro,

I've made the changed to the KHL jersey that you've recommended. How do I get them to you?

Robb

If you want to check out the old t.v. hockey drama Power Play, someone has both seasons onto YouTube. Here's the link to the 1st episode.

@Robb - You might want to send it to Ryan as a new concept. I don't know his policy on "updated concepts"
