Weekend Update (February 16)
Another Weekend Update. Some stuff we'll get to today includes all of your winners, discussion on the next competition and my disappointment with the current competition.
The winner of the COTY-January vote was Dylan A!
The winner of the COTW vote for February 3-9 was me, Ryan H!
The new COTW nominees have been listed on the side of the page. Click the banner to see the actual concepts or go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Voting ends on Friday.
The current competition, the Design A Country Competition, has been very disappointing to me. It's not because of the amount of entries. We got 26, that's good! It's the amount of entries that flat out ignored the HJC Logo Use Policy. The policy can be found on the ABOUT/CONTACT HJC tab, but lets review it now.
It baffled me how many just stole logos off of the internet and used them without giving any credit. I wonder how many of these people thought what they were doing was okay? It's fine to use a pre-existing image, but you MUST give credit!
Furthermore, writing "image found on Google images" is NOT a proper way to credit.
Here's an example of what I am talking about.
The bird on the left is clipart. Some people would use the bird and re-colour it. They would then add shapes and/or font and suddenly think that they created that logo. WRONG! The bird still needs to be credited/cited. Always!!!

Matt McElroy was inspired by pairs figure skating and came up with a great idea. A pairs competition here on HJC! So, if you know someone here on HJC and you both agree to team up for the next competition, go to the TEAM COMP tab and leave a comment listing both members of your team. If you would like to be involved in the competition, but need a partner, then go to the TEAM COMP tab and leave your email address so someone else who doesn't have a teammate can team up with you.
For the next competition, teams will be required to create a NHL expansion team from the ground up. This competition will entail logo creation, jersey creation, as well as another design element. That other element is undecided at the moment. For example, it could be something like design a program cover.
If you get your team together early don't get too deep into it early. There will be some rules and guidelines you'll need to work within.
There are only TWO votes this week. Hey, #2. That's the position of the team that will lose to Canada in the gold medal game.

HJC Logo Use Policy
HJC's policy, when submitting concepts, is if you use any concept that isn't yours you must give credit ON the image(s) you send in. For example, if you use a logo concept that you did not draw you must give the person who did draw it credit on your image.
To credit properly you should find the name of the artist. If that can't be found, you must write the link, to the image that you used, on your concept. If neither of those can be done then don't use the concept.
Citation is not needed when using former and current logos from commonly known sports teams.

Chris from GeneralJersey.com contacted me and I said that I would let you guys know about a program his company has where you can sell your logo designs. GeneralJersey.com makes Canadian made jerseys from hockey teams.
How it works:
1. Designer creates logo & submits to GeneralJersey.com
2. GeneralJersey.com promotes your logo to our teams through online marketing and phone sales.
3. Hockey Team can buy logo for $99 without the copyright. Conversely, for $299 the designer will sign over the copyright ownership to the Hockey Team.
4. Designer adjusts logo to team colors and name.
5. Designer gets paid 80% (of $99 or $299) when Hockey Team receives adjusted logo. GeneralJersey.com earns 20% for sales and payment processing.

Canada would play the US in the semi-finals not the gold medal game.
Canada will be lucky to get a whiff of second place. USA-Sweden Final, IMO. Canada for Bronze vs. Russia.
Hate to break it to you Ryan, but Canada won't be making it to the gold medal game this year.
