Weekend Update (February 23)
Was it ever in doubt?
Actually to me, yes it was. The semi-final game against the States, my heart was saying Canada, but my head said US. Luckily my brain failed me (again) and Canada won. This absolutely was the best defensive unit ever assembled by a Team Canada.
If I had to make a prediction I would say that the NHL'ers will not be back for the 2018 Olympics in South Korea. I wouldn't be surprised to see that announcement made before the puck drops for the 2014-15 NHL season. Coinciding with that announcement would be the announcement of the return of the World Cup of Hockey (2016,17,18?).
The winner of the COTW vote for Feb 10-16 was Bastian!
The winner of the Design A Country Competition was Keens!
Keens' entry now moves into the COTW vote.
This week begins the much anticipated Pairs Competition. There are lots of rules and guidelines, so it's an absolute MUST to read the competition page. You can even go to that page and hear me say it! This won't be like other comps, where entries are posted each day. We won't actually see any material here on the blog for nearly two weeks. For those that aren't in the competition this is a good chance to put together your best concept for COTW. The "usual suspects" may be busy with their comp work.
I'm looking forward to some of the entries that will come in. I'm also looking forward to seeing those that entered the Novice Division surprise everybody and themselves with their logos. Lastly, I'm looking forward to seeing who can't read and follow the rules because I'm betting that there will be at least one team that doesn't. Don't let that be your team.
The new COTW nominees have been listed on the side of the page. This vote is for the week of February 17-23. You can click the banner or go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK page to see the nominated concepts. Voting ends on Friday.
Tuesday's writer, Dylan, has secured his tickets to Chicago's Stadium Series game. If you're going to the game or are in the area Dylan would like to get another HJC meet-up scheduled. If interested, contact Dylan through the HJC Facebook page, Twitter (@DBroDesigns), or email HJC and I will forward it to Dylan.
Now the Olympics are over and Canada is on top again. I prefer the World Cup of Hockey or Canada Cup to an Olympic tournament. However, for that NHL run tourney to mean something the pros can't be going to the Olympics, which they want to.
That was your Weekend Update and now here come the always beautiful voting bars...
