Monday: Monday Funday

Hey there everyone! Hope you're all doing well and had a great weekend. I was having a great weekend until the snow came back, and came back with a vengeance. Anyway, hopefully today's post will take my mind off of it.

But first, vote vote vote! We've got the COTW Vote plus the Video Game competition! Email in your COTW vote and the Video Game votes go on the competition's page.

COTW Mar 15-21 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Video Game Comp vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Also, while you're at it, you should be just about done finding a partner for the pairs competition. The pairs competition was very successful last year and hopefully it's even more successful this year.

Anyway, let's get to the concepts.

Stadium Series Concept - Gangs of New York Concept 1 - Emin Z.
I'm not exactly where this idea came from. I'm not a huge fan of the idea though. Using cartoon characters for merchandising isn't new, in fact, one of my favorite pieces of Blackhawks merchandise is a hoodie with the Tasmanian Devil playing goalie for the Blackhawks. So, if this was just branded merchandise, go for it, absolutely. But as game worn jerseys in a Stadium Series? No, that wouldn't be received well. The fans might not like the cartoony feel, while the league wouldn't like the "Gangs" aspect.

Anyway, Both uniforms are heavy on the gradients, and it doesn't look that great. And the jerseys very loosely follow each teams color scheme. I understand that New Jersey is very close to New York, but I think it's wrong to brand a game as "Gangs of New York" and not use both New York teams. I gotta say, I'm not really a fan of any aspect of this concept. The Islanders' gloves may be my favorite part.

Rating: 3/10

Stadium Series Concept - Gangs of New York Concept 2 - Emin Z.
Emin also gave us the light/dark opposite of each jersey. This would be the better looking of his two concepts, especially since the orange is gone from New Jersey's jersey.

Buffalo Sabres Concept - Casey R.
Casey suggests a big and bold new striping pattern. There should be a second stripe on the arms that mimics the hem striping, and maybe even a second stripe to go with the cuff stripes. The hem striping should be moved up so the bottom bottom stripe is at least even with the angle on the jersey's hem, or where the top hem stripe currently is. The yellow pants is a no for me. Way too bright and would look extremely gaudy. Maybe you get away with yellow pants on an alternate jersey, but not as primary pants. Lastly, I like the yokes, but I'm not sold on the yellow one. If you must keep it, change the B in the shoulder patch to blue.

Winnipeg Jets Air Force Night Jersey Concept - Christian C.
Christian suggests a specialty jersey as a nod to the Canadian Air Force. The jersey itself sort of looks like an Air Force uniform, except with silver striping instead of gold to stay within their color scheme. The arm striping and hem striping have a different thickness, definitely keep that consistent. I think the arm striping could be moved down a bit, that or the tv numbers moved up. The number on the back could use a blue outline. The jersey looks like it's almost really great with the exception of those errors I pointed out. I can see something like this being worn for a warmup, but I wouldn't mind seeing something like it being worn for a game or two.

Rating: 7.5/10

Buffalo Sabres Concept - Brandon C.
Brandon simplifies the Sabres' jerseys but keeps the navy blue. I think it looks pretty good. Most people probably would have changed the blue back to their classic royal blue. The only issue with this current blue is the jerseys kind of look like they could be St. Louis jerseys. The white jersey's striping is perfect in my book, but I'd rather see the yellow and white swapped on the blue jersey, plus get rid of the white yoke. And again, just a reminder to all, ID your work!

Winnipeg Jets Concept - Christian L.
Different Christian, Different Jets jersey. I think the Jets would benefit from a new jersey, I'm surprised they haven't unveiled one yet. They're one of the teams that could pull off a gray/silver jersey, and LA showed that a gray jersey can look super nice! I say go with something like this. It's a design that we've seen countless times but on a gray/silver jersey and the brightness of the striping it looks better than most other jerseys that use this same design. It'd be nice to see the pants and gloves just to complete the look here.

Rating: 9/10 and a COTW!

Mississippi River Kings Jersey - Caz W.
Caz shares with us a jersey he designed for the Mississippi River Kings in the SPHL. Caz had shared with us his concept before but now they are a reality. It's a shame that the numbers overlap the hem stripe, the hem and arm striping look huge, but it's a nice color scheme and Caz must be overwhelmed with joy. Nothing beats seeing your work being worn on the ice. Here's both jerseys so you can see the whole set! Congrats again Caz!

I don't know how to rate this since TECHNICALLY it's not a concept anymore. A billion points!

There you have it, Monday is done! Next comes Tuesday and then a few more days, and then I'll be back here before you know it!
