Monday: Playoff Madness

Happy Happy Monday and Happy Playoffs everyone! Ok, maybe not everyone, I'm sure there's tons of you out there whose favorite team didn't make the playoffs, but hey, playoff hockey is always fun to watch, regardless of who's playing. There's just too much at stake not to be interested.

I could bore you with my predictions and my lengthy explanation on each one, but you probably wouldn't read it and I don't feel like typing it. I'll just sum up my take on the playoffs like this:

I'm a Blackhawks fan. I'm biased. Go Hawks. Detroit Sucks.

So Go Hawks! And Go Tampa Bay for the next couple of weeks!

And while we're on the subject, it's really cool to see some new faces in the playoffs. The Jets make their first appearance in the playoffs as well as Calgary making their return to postseason play. The Islanders had an impressive year and are hoping to make history one more time before leaving their stadium for good. The Kings have fallen and it feels pretty good. Yada yada yada ok let's do some HJC stuff!

And before we get to the real fun stuff, go vote. And get your Pairs Comp. entries in!

1st Quarter Vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW April 5-11 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Pairs Competition (ends Wednesday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

OK LET'S DO IT

Chicago Blackhawks Winter Classic Concept - Kevin G.
First off Kevin, ID your work. This is essentially the Hawks white jersey from 1948 to 1955. It's an OK hockey look but some might find it more boring than what they went with. I personally like to see a lot of red on a Hawks jersey and who am I kidding, I would have been all over a jersey like this. Make the Logo/Patch/Captains C/and Back number the correct sizes and this looks pretty good. Add the TV numbers because they're required by the league (I think.... pretty sure) Also use the correct Reebok logo on the back of the neck. Some Tomahawk C's would have been nice but I know you were going for historical accuracy.

Man. City - Premier League Crossover Series - Phil B.
I'm not really a big soccer buff, but I'm familiar with the team and their classy crest. I really like the color scheme. The light blue jersey is a beauty, but I think the dark jersey would benefit from swapping the yellow stripes with either the light blue or white. The pants striping should either have some yellow and white in it or be gone. I think only the navy helmet could be used and everything would be fine.

I also notice after a quick 'Gewgle' search that some past Man City uniforms feature some gradient designs. I think that would have been a very neat thing to work off of. I also notice that while the team has used some thick stripes on their uniforms, the striping here could be a little thinner. Or perhaps get rid of the colored cuffs/hem and use a 2 colored striping pattern. Just some thoughts.

Rating: 7/10

Alaska Anchorage Seawolves - Ben S.
Ben puts thin stripes all over these uniforms which gives them a very classy look. The pants striping doesn't really fit in with the rest of it. I'd go in and add the stitching pattern to the jersey if I were you Ben, that way the chest stripes have something to end at and not just stop.

Bucci Overtime Challenge Jersey Concepts - David P.

David thinks that Buccigross could sell hockey jerseys to promote his non profit, and I don't think it's a bad idea. he's prepared two different options.

Option 1.
The first option is just Blackhawks jerseys with the Bucci logo on them. Definitely a cheaper option, but not the most creative or smartest in my opinion. The most eager to buy these would probably be Blackhawks fans. I'm sure there's a lot of fans out there who wouldn't want a jersey that looks like a Hawks jersey for fear of people mistaking them for Hawks fans. I personally don't see what's wrong with that ;)

Option 2.
The more creative set. The striping pattern keeps a classic hockey look and it fits well with the logo. Definitely the winner between the two options. The Stuart Scott patch is a nice touch.

Overall, great idea and I think Bucci should look into it.
First Set: 5/10
Second Set : 8/10

There you have it. A pretty short post today. This week in general will feature some shorter posts than usual with the number of concepts being small. Hopefully that's because everyone's working hard on their Pairs Entries. Hopefully you're all working on something that can be sent in after that so we have a lot more concepts to share with everyone!
