Thursday: The 99th Day of the Year
Hello again guys. As you all know this week has been a bit strange for the blog. As such I have some extra concepts to review. So along with that and just not having anything else to say here let's get on with the concepts, but first, here are the voting reminders. Also remember that if your pair needs extra time for the competition entries you can email Ryan about it and if enough ask he'll extend the deadline.
COTY-March vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Mar 29-Apr 4 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Pairs Competition (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Ben M. - Washington Capitals
Ben brings us a believable set for the Caps if Nike took over the NHL's uniforms. It's a very patriotic set, which works well of course for the team that resides in the capital of the country. I think the contrasting arms would look good, but I think it would look better if the red yoke and blue arms were swapped on the white jersey. The flag stripes on the arms look surprisingly good, you would normally expect them to take up too much space. The alternate, while being an almost direct throwback to their pre-edge set, looks good, and the Weagle looks good in those colors. I would sublimate the stars on the hem though, the jerseys would be very busy otherwise. It would nice to see the equipment to go with it too.
Overall: Good, believable Nike set for the Caps (8/10)
Ben S. - Ottawa Senators
A different Ben brings us a concept from Canada's capital. The arm stripes have a bit of an interesting layout, but the concept is fairly simple and looks good. Execution is great. However the bottom of the arms are a bit empty, I would add something there, even if that comes from moving the stripes down. I would also make the stripes a bit thicker and use the side profile logo on the front.
Overall: Simple and good looking design (8/10)
David P. - Northwestern University
After doing a small bit of research I don't see very much about hockey here, but their jerseys look pretty good. Their jerseys also are black, and I think it would be better in purple, especially considering how unique that color is to hockey. The striping pattern is very simple, and as most simple patterns do, this one looks good. The main problem with this set is the alternate. While it doesn't look bad design wise, the purple blends into the black too much. I would either brighten the purple or add white to add visibility. Maybe even just change the purple to white.
Overall: Again, simple and good looking design (7.5/10)
Etienne H. - Vancouver Canucks
I don't think I recall ever seeing a concept from you here, and it's always good to see a new concept artist. The striping on the concept could work, but I would make the hem stripes thicker and have them match the arm stripes. I would remove the piping and phantom yoke, and the logo doesn't really have anything to do with the Nucks besides the C. The image is also very small, if you submit more in the future make the image larger because right now it is very blurry. Also make sure you have ID on the concept to avoid from it being stolen, and if it is on the concept I can't read it.
Overall: Not too bad, keep making concepts and listen to the reviews and you'll COTW worthy in no time (4/10)
Mike M. - The Empire (Star Wars)
I've never watched any of the Star Wars movies so I'm probably going to miss some references here. I do like how the font for both the back name and the Reebok logo on the back is in a different language or whatever it may be in. The striping looks good, but I would make it thicker on the hem to be the same size as the arms. The back of the jersey inside the collar needs to be filled black to match the yoke too.
Overall: I probably missed something but a solid jersey nonetheless (7.5/10)
Mike S. - Columbus Blue Jackets
As opposed to your Chicago concept I reviewed last week, I like this concept. It has elements of the Jackets identity, namely the extended yoke type design, and also adds new things. The hem striping looks really good and much better than it did when they had them. The Ohio flag design also looks great on the arms. There should be helmet and pants logos however, as I'm pretty certain all NHL teams have them.
Overall: Much needed improvement on their current set (8/10)
Phil B. - Arsenal
The first of two soccer (or football) concepts for today, Phil gives us a good looking set for Arsenal. After looking up what their jerseys look like I like the way you converted them over to hockey. The yellow on the yellow jersey is very bright, and isn't seen anywhere else on the concept aside from a collar insert, but their uniform is yellow so it works. I would switch the red and blue on that jersey though to match their yellow jersey better.
Overall: Good transition from the field to the ice (8/10)
Phil B. - Burnley
The second concept of this series today, we have a concept for Burnley FC. As opposed to last concept this one does not appear to be based off of their uniforms, and it still looks good regardless. While I'm oblivious to the significance of the pattern, it gives them a unique look. The colors are balanced well and execution is great.
Overall: A good looking set regardless of it's difference from the field (8.5/10)
Ryan C. - San Jose Sharks
While I normally don't like the Reebok cookie cutter templates, I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I like the changes that were made, albeit fairly small changes, and I think this could actually look good with the Sharks. However if this were to happen I would want the Pens and Sens to have switched out of that look. The TV numbers do look slightly big to me, and I would also switch the black and teal on the white jersey to balance the colors better.
Overall: A cookie cutter template that I think would look pretty good (8.5/10)
Well that's today's post. I'm going to give COTW to Ryan's Sharks concept. Did you like another concept? Comment and give it a nomination! Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed the post, and I'll see you guys next week.

The pattern of my Burnley FC Concept is based on the club's logo, which contains that pattern.
Welcome Mike, glad to have another Star Wars fan making jersey's, but is it just me or does it look like you 'borrowed' some things (shoulder patches, helmet, glove pants & SIDIOUS in Aurabesh) from my original Empire concept. Also the TV numbers are a different colour (red, like the one I used) than the back of the jersey.
I 2nd Ryan C's Sharks concept for COTW
I think the reason that particular cookie cutter template works on the Sharks is that the side panels are different that that of the Pens and Sens.
My COTW nomination goes to Mike S. for his Columbus Blue Jackets jersey!
Im showing the love for the Capitals jerseys. COTW nom here!
I'l snd Mike S for COTW but Ryan's Sharks concept and Ben's Capitals concepts stood out as well
