Wednesday: Wrong Writer Wrong Time!!!

Hey there everyone. Dylan A here, you know, the guy that writes on Mondays but not this past Monday. Sorry about the lateness of the post. Bit of a weird week gets weirder I guess. I'm filling in for Christian because whatever. I wasn't able to get a hold of the concepts for today so that's why this is late.

So, I understand that this is a bit late and you want to get right to the concepts but hold on, I need to remind you to vote. Go Vote.

COTY-March vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Mar 29-Apr 4 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Pairs Competition (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Ok concept time!

Colorado Avalanche 2015 Stadium Series Concept - Alan H.
Interesting look here for the Avs. It definitely fits the Stadium Series' idea of new jerseys. The jagged mountain striping makes a return to the Colorado jerseys. I feel like this idea looks better laid out on a computer screen like this than it would being worn. The arm striping would look good though, I'm more concerned with the vertical stripes on the torso. I think I'd rather see the colors swapped on the socks to match the sleeves. And the pants look bad and don't do that. No no no.

Colorado Avalanche Alternate Jersey Concept - Andrew W.
Chris Creamer reported today that the luckiest jersey in the NHL is the Av's blue alternate, despite the team's overall record being nothing special. Andrew likes the idea of a blue jersey for the Avs, but changes up the design. The arm striping is almost the same, but without the top maroon stripe and the bottom one extends to the cuff. Hem striping looks good matched with the sleeve striping. Overall a really consistent and good looking set. I don't care for the square hem, plus the logo is a little too small. I'd keep the black pants and helmet because any other color just doesn't look right aesthetically.

Boston Bruins Concept - If Nike Took Over Series - Ben M.
Ben adapts the Bruins to a Nike Swift template and the result is pretty good looking. Nothing ground breaking here. But I'd say pretty accurate. The home and away are basically the team's 1981-95 jerseys with their current yoke. The yoke stripe looks weird on these, I can't decide if I like it or not. I think the yellow yoke on the white jersey throws off the color balance. I think it'd look best without a yoke, but perhaps a black yoke would look nice. The alternate is nice, a color swapped version of the home jersey to keep the connection between what would be their current jerseys and their classic color scheme. Overall, good look, though, it'd be nice to see the rest of the uniform. The socks would make or break this for me.

Buffalo Sabres Alternate Jersey Concept - Griffin B.
Griffin did this with the Avalanche on yesterday's post. It seems like he'll have an ongoing series where he puts different teams in jerseys modeled after this years Stadium Series jerseys. It's an interesting idea. I wish he would have fixed all of the flaws with this year's SS jerseys though. The striping not extending to the back of the jersey is bleh. Nice to see normal sized TV numbers. The shoulders seem too blank. Maybe add the sabres from the captains patch on their current alternate to the shoulders. Feel like the pants striping doesn't really fit. The blue and yellow on the socks should be swapped to complete the look. Overall, this would be a pretty neat look for the Sabres if they're still looking for a yellow jersey since they're putting the Turdburger to rest.

Sapmi National Team Concept - Viktor B.
Sapmi is a cultural region that includes parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. It's technically not a country itself, so "National Team" isn't really the correct term. I can't think of a better one right now, so this will do. The Sapmi flag includes bright red, blue, green, and yellow. That would look like a mess on a jersey, but Viktor darkens the colors so they all look very nice together. I can't tell if the logo is a flower or a flame, so some insight on that would be nice. I'm not sure about the dark yellow trim on the numbers, I think they could do without a trim honestly. Figure out how to clip off the part of the TV number that bleeds off the jersey and include the rest of the equipment and this is a great concept. Also, the Nike template looks really good with laces.

Anaheim Ducks Alternate Jersey Concept - Jamie R.
Anaheim needs a full time orange jersey. They could have found it with their Stadium Series jersey but they kind of messed it up. This compliments their current set well. A nice clean look with plenty of orange, but not too much. The white balances things out very nicely. Plus, I'm a sucker for white cuffs/hems on colored jerseys. Normally I don't like white yokes, but it works here. The return of the Mighty Ducks logo to the front of the jersey, where it belongs, plus the return of their OC logo. Very nice look here, let's hope they adopt something like this in the future.

Rating: 9/10 and a COTW Nom!

There you have it, a late post from a writer on a day that isn't his. Hopefully the rest of the week goes smoothly and we don't do this again! Have a good week HJCers!

Viktor B's Sapmi concept for COTW because colorful stripes on a jersey is a good thing.

Question: Is there any apps I could use to make hockey jersey concepts?

Sapmi actually has its own "National" hockey team in the Arctic Winter games. I don't know anything about their jersey though. Their soccer team incorporates their flag nicely at least-- I got one last year. My family originally comes from up that way. I would LOVE to get their actual hockey jersey. This concept is certainly nice too.
