Hello everyone, and welcome once again to Monday!
The Stanley Cup playoffs are now tied, and the Blackhawks are taking the series back home. I was actually really hoping for a Hawks sweep this series, especially so they could win the cup in their red jerseys if they did. Now they have to take the cup in game 6! What a darn shame.
Not a lot has happened in the way of jersey news, but we've got a lot of new concepts and things to vote for here.
First, our concepts for the Open Cup Logo competition. Two artists are sending in three entries for today.

Daryl D. - Brooklyn Islanders

Now, onto the heart and soul of the website, the concepts! I'm using the same separated grading system from last week. Also, I'd like to personally apologize for the whole tag thing from last week, it was my mistake. If you don't remember the five categories, they are:

Ryan Christensen - St. Johns Shamrocks
Execution: I don't know if you need a brand for the jersey here, given this is a for a fictional team. I'll let it slide, because I really like this jersey. (2/2) Striping: The striping on this jersey is actually my favorite kind of striping. This thick tail and sleeve striping, and that little touch of yellow between the two major stripes looks gorgeous. (2/2)
Effectiveness: This jersey looks great. I could see this on the ice for the NHL as well. (1/1)
Creativity: Making a jersey for a movie is always a novel idea, and I feel like this is some sort of series of yours, given the Assassins jersey from a few days ago. I can't really think of anyone who does this style of striping in a similar style to this. (1.75/2)
Other: The logo looks a little low. I'd move it up just a tiny little to fill up the jersey a bit more. The classic block font always looks good. I kind of prefer the away jersey here, and both balance colors very well. (3/4)
Overall: I like this a lot better than the jersey they used in the movie. While it doesn't look quite like an antagonist's uniform, it's a good set. Maybe they could use this in Goon 2? (8.75/10)
Matt Gomula - Liverpool
Effectiveness: This jersey looks great. I could see this on the ice for the NHL as well. (1/1)

Matt Gomula - Liverpool
Execution: One thing I have to point out. In the NHL, the away jersey's helmet is always white. Since this isn't an NHL jersey, I'll let it slide, but if you were to make a future NHL concept, keep this in mind. (2/2)
Striping: Since there are 2 different styles of jerseys here, I have to look at these separately. The main set is incredibly plain. But the alternate, the wing design on the pant is beautiful. For the standard jerseys, though, the racing stripes does not work with the thick stripes used. I wish there was more here, honestly. (1/2)
Effectiveness: If it's ever cold in Liverpool and they have to start wearing long sleeve uniforms and protective helmets, socks, and gloves, then I could see this on the grass. Also it would look great on ice as well. I can see some very "Olympic" design choices, if that makes any sense. (1/1)
Creativity: This doesn't really look like anything Liverpool has worn before, but it's something people have seen in hockey for years. (1/2)
Other: The font used is really nice, I like the angular style. I usually wouldn't like something like this, but it really works to separate the jersey from other hockey jerseys with this simple striping style. Also, the inscription on the top is a really nice idea. (3/4)
Overall: This concept is incredibly plain. Is that entirely a bad thing? Not really, but in a sport like soccer where innovative jersey styles are what people look for, I don't know if this works as well as you wanted it to. (8/10)

J3 - Albany Devils
Execution: Everything looks on point here. (2/2)

I'm a little sad that there isn't a colored set to see how it would translate in black or red. My one gripe with the striping comes from the pants. Effectivness: It looks a lot more vintage than the current Cyclones set, and that definitely isn't a bad thing. (1/1)
Creativity: I've not seen a concept like this for any team yet. I'd love to see other teams with this style of striping. Maybe the Bruins or Pittsburgh. (2/2)

Striping: The full sleeves look good, but could maybe use another stripe a la the Kings. Also, the pants could use a stripe or two to brighten them up a little. (1/2)
Effectiveness: When I think Michigan Stags, I think backwater towns and forests. I feel like this is a bit too modern for an identity called the "Stags." (0/1)
Creativity: This is a great set, and the concept of a WHA revival is fantastic. (2/2)
Other: I like the fonts used on this jersey. They've got these little points that just make me think of antlers. It's a nice touch. (3/4)

Striping: I don't really know how to feel about this pattern. I feel like it's a bit too tacky. The IceCaps logo is very refined and rounded. I don't know if the jagged lines are a good fit. I actually think the pattern used on the pants could be translated very well all around the jersey as a simple, clean look. (.5/2)
Effectiveness: I think this could maybe work as an alternate, but that's a strong maybe. (0/1)
Creativity: This definitely isn't an uncreative design, but the striping is reminiscent of the old Avs striping on a much smaller scale. (1/2)
Other: The classic block font with a light blue stroke is nice and subtle, but I don't know if subtle fits with the concept. (2/4)

Striping: It's simple and vintage, but clean and beautiful. I love it. The first thing I thought of when seeing it was the stripes of a lighthouse. The only gripe I have is that the hem stripes should match or be greater than the amount of stripes on the sleeves. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: What a great way to see a team transform their identity than to create a faux-vintage look? (1/1)

Well, talk about a day for concepts.
I have to say that every week gets more fun writing for here. Being involved in such a great community is such an honor, and being able to watch it grow while learning from the experts of the art. I really wish some day I could make this a living instead of just a hobby, but I've got a long way to go before I reach the level of professionalism required to change the identity of an entire multi-million dollar franchise.

Omg Scott's logos look so good
I'm sorry but in what universe is Daryl's concept better than Daniel's and Colin's. I felt both of those were at least an 8 and Daryl's was about a 5. (No offence)

I'll nominate Matt G. for COTW. I personally like the Nike international jersey's and think this would be a good fit for something along those lines.
As for Daryl's concept, it's clean and it would look nice on a jersey as a third, especially that script font. But I honestly HATE the idea of NYI calling themselves Brooklyn, or ever going with a black and white jersey to reflect the Nets. Sure they will share the same building, but it would just look gross. That's like the New York Giants & Jets calling themselves New Jersey.
Thanks Scott! I like to refer to my concepts as traditional as opposed to "plain" or "boring" haha.
2nd Matt G's Liverpool jerseys for COTW
For Daryl's concept, there is no way that the Islanders will have the words "Brooklyn" on a jersey. The rumored alternate will be mostly black and white, but will involve elements of the Stadium Series alternate from this year, especially the logo. I do have a concept in the works for an alternate, but not on the Stadium Series Template. Stay tuned.
As for Ryan's "Goon" Concept, I have seen that striping pattern before. It is for the aforementioned New York Islanders. Two thick stripes on the hem, separated by a small stripe in between, with a similar, but full sleeve pattern on the arms.
@Matt G. No problem man, I agree with what you said. Sometimes I strongly dislike over the top designs but that one just works really well. The elements that are different from a "traditional" jersey design aren't over-whelming and the rest of the jersey is simplified. Great job!
